Another crack has been found on a notorious San Francisco skyscraper that is slowly sinking into the Earth.

Inspectors have issued a violation to management of a sinking building after a large crack formed in a 36th-floor window.

The high-rise condominium building called the Millennium Tower- dubbed by locals as the Leaning Tower of San Francisco - is the tallest residential building in the city. It has sunk 16 inches into its foundations since it was completed in 2009.

Residents heard creaking sounds, then heard a popping noise around 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

Later, a homeowner found the crack in a window of his home on the 36th floor at the corner of the 58-story high-rise.

That building reflects the corrupt dysfunction of SF housing construction. By design, the caissons go down only 80m through fill, but they should have been required to go down 200m to bedrock. In an earthquake zone with large wind loads, it makes no sense to build a 200m tall tower on fill, without caissons down to bedrock, but that is what happened. Worse, the consequences will become generalized as an argument against all housing developers. SF needs many housing towers of this height, properly built. Instead, SF gets a badly built tower approved by a probably corrupt and dysfunctional process, and the shortage of housing continues.

Now shit is flowing the wrong way:

The building's tilt — now about 22 inches to the west due to the northwest corner sinking about 18 inches — may be causing lateral sewage pipes to not drain correctly and has already resulted in “some plugging” on the third floor, according to a letter from the chief engineer to the city, obtained by NBC News.

We will see a lot more infrastructure problems and dangers as more and more engineering firms get chosen on the basis of "diversity" rather than competence.

Skyscraper Oligarchs sodomized by building? Well, it is SF.

That building is like the one that collapsed near Miami; stupidity and greed made it.

Too bad for those who bought a condo in there.

If you like to live in tall buildings go to Manhattan.

I think that was the one that they blew up because McAfee said he kept his data files in his condo there.

I think the building has information that could lead to the arrest of Hillary Clinton.

Huh, didn't hear about that.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9726571/Tweet-sparks-conspiracy-theories-linking-John-McAfees-death-Miami-condo-collapse.html

'If anything happens to me, the files are on hard drive in my condo north of Miami Beach.' Conspiracy theorists claim John McAfee tweeted he was storing secret stash of government data at building WEEKS before it collapsed
A cryptic tweet allegedly posted by John McAfee earlier this month has been circulating on Twitter claiming he was storing secret files at a Miami condo
Screenshots appear to show tweet shared from McAfee's account on June 8 revealing he had '31TB of files on hard drives' near '88th Street and Collins Ave'
McAfee was found dead on Wednesday allegedly from suicide by hanging
The following day, a 12-story Miami apartment building on 8777 Collins Avenue collapsed, with the cause of the disaster still unknown
There is no such tweet currently on McAfee's Twitter feed. It may have been tweeted and later deleted, or could be complete fabrication.
DailyMail.com was also unable to find records for a condo owned under McAfee's name in the Champlain Towers collapsed building
However, one tweet still on his account from June 2019 showed McAfee claimed to have '31+ terabytes of government secrets'

Just run away for life asap including from all the nearby towers.

I wonder how the insurance would work in a slow failing structure. All architects have liability insurance for the structures they design.

Don't have the bibliography any more, but it is a 'coincidence' ??? that the building was brought down 9/11 style (not structural collapse as stated) and FBI combed the area afterward. Somebody really did not want that building left standing. I do remember reading that McAfee in fact owned one of the condo units in the building.

Strange how he coincidentally mentioned the condo location and then how it was then coincidentally collapsed. How many coincidences does it take to add up to malice aforethought?

komputodo,

do you live here in the SF Bay Area? Or some other place here on the Left Coast?

We live on The Ring of Fire. Earthquakes are a normal part of living here. That's why earthquake insurance is super expensive here, premiums are multiples higher than for the regular homeowners' policy.

Moreover, much of that part of SF is built on fill. (Can you say, Marina District / 1989 Loma Prieta Quake?)

The building is not anchored to bedrock. Its relatively shallow pilings are "floating" in / on the clay. The City of SF approved the expeditious, low cost design, - faster way for the property taxes it coveted to start rolling in.

Interesting. It is illegal in Virginia to even build a single family home without the foundation dug below any fill.

We are in earthquake zones
Are people REALLY still occupying this sinking tower?

They can make the tilted lounge a Mystery Spot tourist attraction. You know they are desperate because they injected 5000 pounds of Viagra into the foundation.

I dunno about that, Booger. People are leaving SF. To make money off it, they'll have to charge high rents. But the type of people who can pay market rents are leaving the city.

So what’s the latest with the building cracks?

These cracks from years ago are fine? Building fine?

The Tower of Pisa is still standing, isn't it?
40   AD   2022 May 21, 11:19pm

"In November 2020, the $100 million "perimeter pile upgrade" repair project began with a planned 52 pilings to be sunk to bedrock. These pilings would be tied to the existing foundation to mitigate further sinking (of Millennium Tower). "

This is like what Ram Jack does in Florida especially central Florida with cracked, sinking, and failed concrete foundations.
