"Glad the divorce rate in America is falling? Thank millennials.

Cynical and dark spin: Maybe the millennials haven't accumulated enough assets yet to make divorce enticing ?

If she divorces him, she gets kicked out of Mom's basement but he gets to stay.

The marriage rate is likely falling faster.

Now women have to tread lightly on this subject; they know that marriage is a bad deal for men of means. For a broke man, it makes little difference. For the man of means, marriage is a financial risk and usually a burden.

The other reason for the data may be that they are counting foreigners who still believe in marriage.

From the article:

The secret to their success is more education and waiting until they are older to tie the knot.

In my opinion, this is the real reason. Party in your 20s and settle down in your 30s. That way no one feels they missed out on the fun times of youth. Plus, you are better established financially and much less budget stress.

Maybe after all the work they’ve had to put in to get their man to marry them, women these days aren’t willing to throw that away just because life is hard and sometimes relationships suck. Things get better. There’s a reason you got together (in most cases), and tossing a lifelong partnership out the window because you want to nail something young and hot or because you’re bored isn’t that appealing.

Also life is much harder for young couples today than it was for the Boomers. They had the luxury of plenty of money, low house prices, and bountiful opportunities. Nowadays couples had better hang together or they will hang separately.

Less and less couples even bother to get married. It costs too much to get married, and even more to get divorced. What's the fucking point?
You say marriage is a commitment? You can have a marriage where no commitment exists, and a commitment where no marriage exists.
IMHO the concept of marriage will be obsolete in a hundred years.

Ripped off from this thread:
/post/1297541/2016-10-21-marriage-rates-have-been-declining-for-decades

The entire concept of modern marriage is a waste of money, built entirely around a woman's ego and greed, and enabled by all the businesses that make a killing on the process.

I mean, just put aside the horror that is the modern woman and focus on a wedding in and of itself: what does it REALLY amount to? An album you'll almost never crack open until there's a problem in the marriage and you want to relive 'the good old days'? A bunch of overpriced food that any sit-down restaurant could probably make better and cheaper? A wedding dress that's basically grand-theft wrapped in lace, that the woman justifies because she says "our daughter will wear it to hers", but we all know never will?

When all is said and done, what you've actually done is arranged the most expensive family reunion of your life, where half the members are basically strangers. The rest is just the woman puffing up her ego by making every other woman in the now bigger family jealous.

At least in the past it was an economic and legal transaction that the man was PAID for.

The important thing here is to separate the state from the relationship. Why we ever allowed government to get involved in our personal lives in the first place, other than to tax us silly, is beyond me.

It doesn't matter what the state says your relationship is, only what the couple and God say. As to the rest, whatever situation is the most financially beneficial should be how we deal with government intrusion.

Marriage, real meaningful marriage isn't going anywhere, only the government involvement in it is.

It's mostly this. Many if not most feminist womyn long ago have decided to ride the cock carousel until they are not desirable anymore so they won't find a man. Now add onto this that even for the younger generations men have caught up on the bad deal that marriage is, so the remaining womyn who want to marry earlier have a hard time convincing the men. Now add to this that the millenials and Gen Z have no assets and lotsa ties to their parents, and it's not easy getting married in mom's basement. Those who are left may be at least somewhat meaningful marriages, so not the worst development, although at least the western/caucasians clearly haven't enough kids and are extinguishing themselves. Circle of life ;)

In the case of Saudis, it matters what Allah says about who you can marry. Check this out:

Alcohol consumption is on the decline so it stands to reason that some of the adverse societal effects will follow. Less alcohol means more happiness and success, which means less divorce

Hey, there's nothing wrong with alcohol. Most of the world has a younger drinking age, and more alcohol consumption than the US. Don't blame alcoholics and our Puritan heritage on beer.

I guess that means we should be more like the middle east and less like those Eastern European slobs

Aussies are fun, looking at the list. Haven't been to the land down under, but at work functions where they've traveled over to the states, they're a fucking blast.

My wife does an international conference every year here in the states and it's always a blast meeting the foreigners. I'm not working, they really aren't either, so it's just a good time and no one cares and all these people trying to sell you stuff are buying drinks, dinners, etc. Did I mention it was a blast! Lol, I think that's the most times I've used that word in a while.

A few years ago I had to do some physical therapy and the PT assistant who I worked with was a younger black lady who I hit it off with on a friendly conversation basis. Eventually she confided that her wife was driving her crazy with how she’d changed since having a baby nine months before. She complained that her wife didn’t pay her much attention, especially compared to the baby, and never wanted to have sex anymore. That they never went out and had fun as a couple anymore and things seemed very dysfunctional.
I just chuckled and said “yep, been there.”

We see it in prison movies all the time, and apparently it occurs in real life, too.

In same sex populations, there are hierarchal battles and re-distribution of sex roles automatically. There are psychologic inductive forces in populations that cause roles to emerge as male/female, even when in the absence of the opposite sex. The population will seek an equilibrium of male/female roles. There are men in prisons who for survival assume female roles, but revert right back to 'normative' heterosexual as soon as they are back in the regular population.

It is interesting that officially 'married' lesbian couples are so unstable. It was always touted in the past that 'before marriage' they were supposed to have been the most stable of all. Maybe the contractual effect of official marriage still leads one of the partners to contractually exploit and betray the other, which is what women do with men. In the days of voluntary partnership, they stayed together because they wanted to, not because they had divorce courts to try to go after each other.
18   Ceffer   2021 Jan 11, 6:16pm

My wife brought up a point and said that two women will be emotional and jealous and infidelity will cause them to divorce, but that lesbians are highly prone to infidelity. She says two gay men are horndogs who don't mind promiscuity, so it would be less likely they would break up on that issue.

I don't really know what to think about that, but it sure wrecks the porno fantasy of the two lesbians getting each other lathered up to the point of ecstasy and then demanding a throbbing rod to walk in and satisfy them both. I didn't tell my wife that. Of course, devious creature, maybe that was her goal.
19   clambo   2021 Jan 11, 6:52pm

I read that the only person who truly loves any man is a gay man.

Women want the money, but accept the particular man that comes with it.

Marriage is a unique legal arrangement; the woman is financially rewarded to break the contract.

This is true of chickens and we saw it ourselves when we had to give away the roosters. The top hen becomes much more dominant, responsible for defense, etc.

They routinely get banned from events for being drunk and disorderly. They were dancing on the tables at Oktoberfest the year I studied in Munich and in trouble for that. Then I visited Israel and found out that no kibbutz will take them because of bad experiences.

But generally great people imho.
