ID's aren't even that much of a thing, unless we have Real ID with immigration status. Most fraudulent voting doesn't happen at actual polls. Sure there might be busing, but that wont help much in a big statewide race for Senator or President, it's only a few at a time, and these days they use rental minivans and station wagons. It's mostly for vicious primaries between Democrats in Deep Blue Cities.

Thing is there are officials at polling stations monitoring for all parties.

Where the "Steal" happens is mail and provisional ballots.

Think of all the Nursing Homes, the Aides, and the Social Workers. Copies of people's signatures are everywhere. Very few are checked, and those that are by mostly non-professionals under a severe time crunch, nothing than a precursory look from a poorly trained (if trained at all) volunteer or worker.

THAT's where the steal happens. Simply get a dead person's identity, register them at any apartment building (inc. your own), and fill out the ballots, send 'em in. Activists could do a dozen in an hour. More if it's just one or two offices they're worried about.

Unfortunately, we'll have to get rid of Mail Ballots entirely to have a fair election system.

Also, the student vote drives are great.

The voter registration forms are completed and given to partisan activists. Often, they will tell the kids "What dorm do you live in? We have a computer fill these out, don't worry about it." Then complete the address to themselves on or off campus. BOOM! Hundreds of votes.

Works great for the elderly and general vote drives, too.

Absentee ballots are problematic, and I feel skeptical of any politician who advocates them. NPVIC and paperless, proprietary ballot machines are also problems.

Absentee ballots should be restricted to circumstances where people cannot reasonably be expected to vote in person, e.g. military deployed at sea. If nursing home residents can't get in a van to city hall, then maybe set up voting booths in the nursing home itself during published hours on published days.

We should have free ID, it would be useful for many things, including voting. Early voting and free ID should be enough to justify restricting absentee voting to people who can prove they need it.
