We clearly spend a lot more than is sustainable.

Current generation puts in what they will get out of these programs. Previous generations put in less than what they are or will get out. Either way this will be a mess financially sooner or later. Healthcare costs going up 10% a year are not slowing down, and is a huge cost driver.

Not saying there is a good solution right now, but my feeling is that there is a lot of postponed pain.

Social Security can be tweaked easily so it is not a problem. Medicare/medicaid is a YUUGE problem. SS tax is about 12% while Medicare about 3%. Yet last year SS spent about a trillion while Medicare spent about 1.2 trillion. The issue is medical costs which are skyrocketing and not a damn politician is doing anything about medical monopolies.
FOXNPC does identify the problem (too much spending), but their analysis is just as miserably ridiculous as that of NPCNN or MSNPC. They do not want to offend medical monopolies (which blow up the budget), they do not analyze military spending which is out of control as well.

Military spends too much for doing nothing of national security. Why do we have 22 intelligence agencies again??

They should stop bombing random countries in Middle East, thus saving taxpayers $Trillions, but making Rayethon and Boeing unhappy. Decreasing immigration of people subscribing to totalitarian ideologies a.k.a. Islam and deporting ones who espouse totalitarian ideologies while in US would help in decreasing number of intelligence agencies, thus saving $$$ as well. Common sense, however, is unlikely to prevail...
