Drugs and alcohol are always available in prison. However, they are costly in more ways than one. They cost something like four or five times street price. They are used as vehicles by the gangs to create debt to enslave the users, or drain the outside assets of prisoners who may have some money.

Many alcoholics and addicts in prison say they stayed sober in prison because it was the best way to survive, keep a low profile, do their time, and get out. They didn't get involved in the sex'n'drugs culture, because it would assure that they wound up doing things that just kept them in prison, or being the bitch of some gang leader.

Getting alcohol usually requires a couple of weeks of potato peels and leftover bread stewing in an old sock in a hole somewhere to make Pruno before a rancid drinking experience. That usually isn't enough or frequent enough alcohol and gratification for most drunks, anyway.

Alcohol is made in jails and prisons. Drugs have to be brought in, usually by staff

Prisons and jails are funded by taxpayers to protect society, not to enrich staff.

OD'ing death row inmates saves so much taxpayers money in the long run, we can overlook little bit of "stuff enriching".

And what about the thousands of other inmates who are using but not overdosing and who are funding this little side business by prison guards who already earn more than six figures and retire early on “stress”.

Not a problem if they overdose themselves.

Xactly. More like a solution really.

There is a chance they overdose too. Thus solving the prison overcrowding "crisis".

PS. And, in a recently popular vein of giving free advise on patnet: everybody who's envious of prison guards' riches is welcome to apply for a job @SQ.

Prison overcrowding will be solved by “chance”? Explain

More overdoses -> less inmates -> no "overcrowding".

Overdosing on drugs does not lead to deaths. it would lead to hospitalization and massive medical bills more often -of course borne by tax payers.

Both murderous fucks mentioned in the article have been on the death row for two decades. How ridiculous is that?
14   Ceffer   2018 Dec 6, 7:17pm

It's likely the fentanyl thing. Fentanyl cut into drugs is insanely potent, and results in a hot shot frequently. Not good for the customer base, but one wonders if the prisoners didn't do it on purpose rather than mouldering on death row.

One of the most common causes of death in recent parolees is going out and using too much street drug, because they cleaned their systems out in prison and can't tolerate the higher dosages, and croaking themselves.
15   tovarichpeter   2018 Dec 6, 7:23pm

Apparently a great many are not “cleaning”.

No matter what, these criminals cost too much to keep alive. We need to import crime control technology from China and Middle East. Quick trials and quick executions.
