Paris has signaled it will support changes to EU guidelines regulating gas imports. Germany has thus far ignored opposition to its project, but it may not be able to any longer.

France's Foreign Ministry has signaled its intention to vote for changes to the EU's Third Energy Package Gas Directive regulating gas imports when the topic comes up for discussion Friday in Brussels.

The proposed changes would effectively extend existing rules to cover offshore pipelines. The posture signals a direct confrontation with Germany over the construction and operation of the controversial Nord Stream 2 pipeline that Berlin is currently building with Russia.
...
Germany has been lobbying EU partners to support the German-Russian project, but has made little progress in allaying criticism, mostly from eastern and central European states, as well as Ukraine and more recently — and more vocally — from the United States.
...
Critics say the project puts European energy independence at risk, giving Russia outsized control over supplies. Nord Stream 2 will be operated by the Russian gas giant Gazprom, and deliver Russian natural gas to Germany via a Baltic Sea pipeline. The EU rule changes would also bar suppliers from operating their own pipelines.
...
Although Russia accounts for 30 percent of gas imports to Europe, natural gas makes up less than 10 percent of the bloc's overall energy mix. The United States is keen to increase sales of LNG to Germany and the EU, which is likely one major reason President Donald Trump has been so vocal in his opposition to the Nord Stream 2 project.

Europe doesn't have energy independence, and this doesn't have anything to do with independence. It has to do with their investment in going to war with the Middle East for the last 18 years - a war they clearly lost.

If you have something intelligent to write, I invite you to do it, otherwise you're just filling this thread up with spam.

If you believe that the EU has taken no part in divesting the Middle East of it's oil resources, you don't know the motivations of the Syrian war and the bombing of Libya. There's nothing complicated to understand about what is going on. The mafia that runs Europe also run the United States now.

Germany: "America can't put pressure on us to actually spend something on our military, which is now an impotent joke! Don't abandon us to Russia, America!"
Also Germany: "Nord Stream II was just signed."

Germany isn't afraid of Russia, and it has divided factions trying to control the nation just as the United States does.

1/2 of them want to drop their alliance with the US and EU and team up with Russia. With Russia's resources and Germany's economies, they would do very well.

1/2 of the US wants to keep us in continual war, rip off other nations, and subjugate the US population (these aren't along democratic/republican lines), the other 1/2 wants to return to actually doing business, improving the country overall, and dumping these stupid relationships that do nothing for the nation.

It is in the interest of the United States to abandon its relationship with the EU, to make a partnership with Russia, and to work with Germany. It's in most American's interests, most Russian's interests, and most German's interest, and even most of the people of the EU's interests.

Criminals, and I mean outright brutal criminals, have been running the West for decades, it began to pick up real steam on December 26, 1991. Russia got rid of their parasites, now it's time for West to do it.

The real reason the French are doing this: They see the writing on the wall for them as far as to the dice will role if Germany gives Trump too many pretexts for formally leaving NATO. Mainly, France will be stuck with most the military bill to defend the rest of Europe. And this bill won't be so much as financial as it will be in blood and risk as it includes being the sole provider of Europe's nuclear umbrella as UK will probably leave NATO after the US does.

They're also selling a shitton of nuclear generated power to hapless Germany after their EnergieWende disaster.
