I think we have a presidential candidate who displays decency and common sense...hence, she will not survive primaries. Please read the link, it is very illuminating. First time I agree with a Democratic candidate with respect to most of what is said (except her off fossil fuels thing)

Democratic congresswoman and presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard said that if elected president she would drop all charges against NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
Yeah,” Gabbard said when asked to clarify if she was also saying that she’d give Edward Snowden a presidential pardon, adding, “And I think we’ve got to address why he did things the way that he did them. And you hear the same thing from Chelsea Manning, how there is not an actual channel for whistleblowers like them to bring forward information that exposes egregious abuses of our constitutional rights and liberties. Period. There was not a channel for that to happen in a real way, and that’s why they ended up taking the path that they did, and suffering the consequences.”

This came at the end of a lengthy discussion about WikiLeaks and the dangerous legal precedent that the Trump administration is setting for press freedoms by prosecuting Assange, as well as the revelations about NSA surveillance and what can be done to roll back those unchecked surveillance powers.

They also discuss the dangers of allowing monopolistic Silicon Valley corporations to control public speech, then later discussing the possibility of breaking up these corporations or treating them as public utilities.

She’s the only Dem candidate with some sense and a fairly reasonable platform. Thus, she isn’t even making 1%. Democrats are fucking alien spacecreatures.

Yeah, even being a woman of color does not help if you are a logical and reasonable person.

If a CIA officer didn't execute Snowden on the spot with a .45 to the head, they lost their opportunity.

Trump is your constitutionally elected president and has done nothing illegal or immoral in office.
Do you have EVIDENCE to the contrary?

I think, with Trump in office, we are now way past common decency. I need lecture from Right wingers on decency as much I need devil to tell me about morality.

You mention common decency. What does that mean and what's the actual purpose of having it? Putin on paper looks like he'd be a nice guy. No outbursts or name calling and such. Yet we all know he's likely a douche bag that will be the guy putting the knife in your back if he had a chance.

I'll never understand the upset over Trump. Civilization ebbs and flows as time goes on. In 500 years it might be appropriate to call a woman president a cunt and no one would think any thing of it. Feelings are your own and shouldn't necessarily be transposed onto others. Feelings are probably 90% of the problem in today's political climate. If I called you a cock sucker at a bar and you bitched about it for 4 years (maybe 8) and made it your life, doesn't that look a bit foolish? That's what is going on.

Left-wingers are impervious to facts and common sense, and are racists/sexists squared (they support racist affirmative action, etc)...lately much worse than right wingers.
About morality, I think saint of the Left Mr. Clinton should lecture us on that. I personally do not think that what he (and Trump) did in their personal lives should have any bearing on our opinion on them as presidents, but for religious nuts which are apparently found also on Patnet left this may be important.

What of Andrew Yang?

I listened to Yang on Shapiro - a surprisingly respectful and thoughtful conversation. Honest Left and Right can talk without hurling constant insults at each other, and argue issues, and not personalities. Disagree with him on universal income, but he seems like a smart and honest guy. Which means he ain't getting the nomination either.

I concur on Yang. I like him even if I think his UBI concept is completely unworkable. It might just be a bit of Democrat Bling that’s designed to get Lefty attention, even though he knows it is unworkable. He’s got to know! I mean, it would add over 2 trillion to the national budget every year! That’s a 50% hike! Where would the money come from? Tax it back from people? But what’s the point of giving it in the first place? The only way you could “win” would be to sit back and refuse to work so you wouldn’t get taxed. And that would make all our problems much much MUCH worse!

I get where Yang is coming from - automation is killing low-level jobs. In order to earn decent living, person needs to be more and more intelligent, and soon bottom half of IQ curve will be unemployable. People who 30-40 years ago could earn good living hammering something in a factory now are either unemployed and on painkillers, or work $7/hr dead-end jobs. His idea is that UBI would somehow help these people whose jobs are automated out of existence. I personally think they will just buy more painkillers with their UBI check. I do not see an easy solution to this.

Yang seems sharp from d6rB's comment/video. He sells the Freedom Dividend well, but like Quigley says, I don't know how it's truly sustainable.

Jazz, can you bring more stuff like this and not the other nonsense? As you can see from the comments pat netter's are reasonable if you bring logic.

I think I'm in love with Tulsi Gabbard. First that truth telling video about Saudi Arabia, and now this.

And she's exceptionally good looking for a Democrat.
12   Tenpoundbass   2019 May 15, 9:58am

If it were that easy Trump would have on day one.

And yet we are at basically full employment with help wanted signs everywhere and corporations screaming for more immigrant workers.

My feeling is that some jobs will be automated while others will be created. There’s going to be jobs for people to do, even the dumb people, because dumb people are still smarter than machines. But people won’t have to work as hard to get stuff done. For example, in the past construction of massive monuments and edifice was done by hand. Now it’s done by machine operators with hands on controls, whether it’s a crane, a backhoe, or a battery powered impact wrench, machines do the hard things we used to sweat over. But there’s still a need for a person to guide the machines.
14   Patrick   2019 May 15, 10:28am

There was always the fear that machines would replace humans, right back to the first mechanical looms, which were destroyed by French workers with their shoes (sabot), giving us the word sabotage.

Yet here we are, 200 years later, with full employment.

Perhaps, but abnormally high numbers are on "disability" or "not looking for work".

Yep, not gonna happen. And the jobs in the most demand are the unskilled. Again, robots and AI cannot learn to open doors without specific programming. Even security guard robots "Yell" at Water Fountains before toppling themselves in. A 2-year old can figure out door knobs, if not earlier, without programming or imitation.

A billion years of evolution fine tuned to be as calorie efficient as possible and perceptive as possible is tough to match.
