The truth and history aren't casualties. They're being rescued by right and righteous thinking of the Left, to guide the masses so that they don't slip into improper tendencies .

Is the disgrace of the New Yorker and the NY Times complete yet? You still think that going to Harvard is all that?

I literally took one of her classes on the American Colonial Era.

It's currently the wokiest thing to re-write the history of American scientific achievement, utterly dominated by White Males, and overplay the role of a literal tiny handful of human calculators (who didn't even know why they were crunching the numbers assigned to them in the Rare and Expensive Mainframe Era) and/or an occasional lower level manager.

Women assigned to look at a section of the sky by a White Male and note any differences, are now being lauded as the discoverers, when the White Male was only firming up what they already suspected and came up with the entire process to A) Scan that region of the sky and B) Conditions that should be considered for follow up.

It's like a Male Investigator correctly suspects which bank a thief will rob next, hires a woman security guard to watch the door and windows, and people giving the security guard rather than the investigator credit.

A lot of it seems to be about indoctrinating gullible sub-30 year olds. They can't tell the difference between 1870 and 1970, when affirmative action, feminism, un-equal opportunity ( i.e. opportunity heavily weighted towards minorities and women) and discrimination against white males (albeit Asians as well) were already in full swing.

They have to convince young'uns that discrimination, female oppression and whip cracking honkies are some kind of perpetually fresh and fashionable issue that just cropped up, rather than a manifestly failed, delusional and unjust policy for nearly 50 years.

The 'Global Warming' stage props bits are kind of priceless, too.

NASA went to great lengths to recruit women and minorities, with the usual hall passes and gold stars to 'make it so'.

What a load of shit.

When the first big Cyclotron was built (still there I think above UC Berkeley Campus below the Lawrence Hall of Science) they employed housewives to scan the plates to look for atomic events because the housewives were simply better at pattern recognition. I guess we need a movie about how the housewives discovered the first fundamental particles and had the credit stolen by the nasty white physicists.

They already wrote the books on that.

No doubt "The American Pageant", America's most widely read (and constantly re-issued with more pap) HS History Textbook will contain a 10-page distortion on how great and wonderful the Housewives were and how the evil Male Astronomers stole their discovery.

NASA had to go to those great lengths because women inherently do not like science, engineering, and math nearly as much as men do.

Women's dislike for hard sciences is universal among all cultures and at all times.

James Damore pointed this out in a very nice way, and even included a diagram of overlapping bell curves to make his point that it's a strong statistical tendency, not that all women hate math and engineering. Still, he was tarred and feathered and fired, because the left has become an utterly intolerant and dogmatic religion like Islam.

Left is full on stupidity lately, their struggle with reality is something very strange.

I guess they feel they get rewarded for made up grievances, so they keep making them up like dogs looking for a treat.

You took one of her classes or you literally took one of her classes? Is there a reason why Literally is the new overused word this year?

It an overused word, but I'm using it correctly. I took colonial American history with Jill Lapore many years ago. Mostly about the everyday lives of Colonialists, credit/barter economy, etc. Wasn't overwhelmingly muh women.

This was before full Social Justice came to dominate Universities.

She taught you that if they needed a wagon wheel fixed by a carpenter, they negotiated and paid him with some chickens or a goat?

Actual physical money was scarce, but they often kept a running tab. Otherwise, reciprocity. One big favor worth many small favors, etc. The norm of humanity, mix of credit and reciprocity. Not all cash/credit like today which is the outlier and not the norm.

Actual physical money was scarce

In the Virginia colony, it was tobacco in lieu of cash.
14   MisdemeanorRebel   2019 Oct 21, 10:53am

Yep. Some frontier towns used wampum for small stuff and furs for big items, inc. between Whites.

Us GenXers at work purposely speak about such things amongst each other just to drive Millennials nuts. It's like we are speaking in Navajo right in front of 'em.

Probably the last generation to have something of a modicum of history and actual liberal arts education.

The point of the latter is to learn to think using different frameworks, including being forced to write from the perspective of somebody you disagree with, and probably generating your own mixture of personal philosophy from all the various frameworks you've learned.

Today it's all wokey dokey, and only wokey dokey pomo.

I recently heard an interview on the podcast EconTalk with Jill and it made me buy and read her latest book These Truths, which is a history of the United States from founding to present. It wasnt SJW bullshit at all, and I really enjoyed it.

I think she gives a balanced view on a lot of issues.

Theres this trend in media of first woman this, first person or color that, first gay whatever. I think it's good to have historians give some perspective that while it may not be remembered women and minorities were not categorically discriminated everywhere in American society in the past. The past was not as great as conservatives make it seem nor as bad as progressives make it seem.

This is a great point. Both sides exaggerate to inspire their base.

Millennials at work don't even know what the term 'carpet bagger' means.

I'd bet millenials think that the term is related to lesbians.

Reminds me of the Great Simplification in Walter Miller's Canticle for Leibowitz.
