$15,000-$20,000 in losses per location per quarter! This is what being soft on crime gets you.

That's just shoplifting, I'm sure thefts across the board have skyrocketed.

Basically, if there is something in some store that you need or want and it costs less than $950 - feel free to take it and leave without paying. Worse-case scenario: you'll get a small ticket if police happens to be nearby.

CA politicians really fucked up CA big time. They decriminalized everything turning CA into total chaotic nightmare. They let mentally ill take over the state politically. Now mentally ill are all over the streets screaming crazy shit and getting violent, homosexual crazies who dress like fucking prostitutes from outer space yelling random obscenities at poeple.

CA is turning into a criminal asylum, especially in the Bay Area. It's heartbreaking to see this. LA/SF all used to be good towns. And partially they still are. But at night, it's total insanity what happens. Number of crazies and homeless just overwhelms the streets.

Ft Wayne,

It really makes me wonder about the personal values of folks who choose to relocate to here from other places in the US.

From what I've seen, they don't know anything about it. They think grass is greener here, many think it's a hollywood movie from the 80's out here where just sun shines and problems don't exist. CA is still an ok place, it's just much less than what it used to be.

I'm (and others) are literally in physical danger every day from very hostile and mentally ill homeless who walk around threateningly taking over the area. At night there are drug deals and prostitution in Van Nuys area nearby, all in the open by the way. Cops don't get involved, they can't do shit since crazy people have a lot of "rights" to endanger others.

Fuck California!

Nobody can fuck California more than it has fucked itself, and there is no end in sight for the downward spiral.

i have been in LibbyFuck homes on the cliffs in Santa Cruz, and they weep about how they can't go down the beach at dusk anymore to have a sundowner with a camp fire, because of the freaks, muggers, homeless and druggies, so the law is that nobody can be on the beach after sunset. Higher and higher costs and more strangling restrictions, rules and fees.

Even the rich have to drive or pass through the crowds and crazies. They have become hop scotchers, trying to hop from RichFuck oasis to RichFuck oasis without getting soiled by the gang bangers and psychos they engendered with their fake compassion.

Plus the crowds. Typically, the TV shows clear a big area to make everything look so slick, clean and hip. They don't show places like Venice choked with ghetto whompers, gang bangers, third worlders and homeless psychos screaming at everybody passing by.

They make it look like you can wear your cutoffs and T'shirt and have a nice tidy whitey lifestyle on the beach in a cheap 50's style 1000 sq ft. bungalow surrounded by white people and an occasionally PC correct, hygienic, well behaved, civllized, well spoken, house trained minority.. People come here and find out the cutoffs and bungalow are a minimum ten million dollar lifestyle now, and that's still to be surrounded by crime, hordes and threats.

In Santa Cruz, the 'epidemic' is getting worse every month. Home security cameras regularly show your local friendly sanctuary city types and meth heads harvesting mailboxes and lifting delivered packages off of front porches. They also show them walking into driveways to check out people's cars. Complaints of vagrants in back yards or even found in homes making meals and using showers are becoming much more common. The car break in phenomenon is spreading and intensifying outward into Capitola.

Felons on probation destroying property are just driven around and dropped off somewhere else. It's all 'catch and release' with no meaningful penalty phase. The sleazes are aware that there is no reason any more NOT to steal and vandalize.

I don't notice the "Keep Santa Cruz Weird" bumper stickers any more. However, to truly 'woke' your typical LibbyFuck deulionist requires a blunderbuss to the ear.

Shopkeepers be all locking up all the snacks and twinkies and shit and passing the 40s across the counter. And they wonder why ya the black hair products are behind glass.

Ceffer, I don't think I've been in Santa Cruz since ten years ago. (Went over the hill to a nursery in Capitola in 2010 on a rainy winter Saturday to get some ollalie canes. Those have done fabulously well here in SJ, many new plants started from the clippings).

So I don't know what to expect. I want to purchase a wetsuit to swim in the bay and haven't found a "suitable" one in the generic sports stores around in SJ. I called a surf shop in SC, the "dude" suggested I take a ride over the hill to shop for those.

What's it like there nowadays? It was sketchy in 2009 but I felt safe enough walking around Pacific Ave even with my kids.
22   Ceffer   2019 Jul 15, 6:10pm

Well, an older friend of mine said his relatives visiting from Germany encountered a crazy woman with her tits flopping out screaming at them on Pacific downtown last week, which was a shock to their system. I was downtown on a bicycle last year, and a homeless freak was riding around on Pacific on a bike shirtless screaming "I want drugs, where can I find drugs" to people on the side walk.

For a while, around the post office, there was an extensive homeless encampment right on the sidewalk. They had needle disposal kiosks a few steps away, and the druggies in the makeshifts still just threw them all over the sidewalk, wouldn't take two steps to dispose of them. I think they cleared that one out since, but I haven't been down there in a while. When I first started coming around nine years ago, things were not pleasant, but this kind of egregiousness hadn't happened yet. They are having increasing instances of fires and arsons, too. Regular overdose deaths, of course, in the encampments, and sometimes dead bodies in the creeks.

Like I said, the spiral is downward with no end in sight. Santa Cruz has a worse property crime problem than Compton (yeah, LA ghetto Compton). Of course it will vary. Everything is fine until it actually happens to YOU, then, you get the paranoids. I would stick to these areas and the Boardwalk during the day, only.

You can get wetsuits online if you know your size. That's how I buy mine. I'd recommend Hyperflex 3/2 with batwing type. Very reasonable cost, soft and easy to get on and off, with durable zippers. Good zippers are important.
23   B.A.C.A.H.   2019 Jul 15, 8:02pm

Thank you for the tip. That's the thing, I am new to this stuff and don't know how the thing should fit. The dude I spoke to on the phone sounded high, but he also talked like he knew about this stuff. He suggested that I drive over the hill to find a suit that fits right.

My goal will be, to be in and out of SC ASAP, just to go to the store(s), and maybe visit a friend's grave at the Odd Fellow Cemetery unless you say it's too unpleasant to park and walk in to the cemetery. From what you described, SC sounds awful. Do you have a suggestion about a particular surf store?

Any of the O'Neill shops if you aren't concerned about the 'tourist' cost premium. O'Neill stores have sales a couple of times a year with discounted merchandise. A couple of blocks north from the glitzy 41st Street O'Neill's on 41st used to be a small ramshakle shop that basically had much the O'Neill overflow at huge discounts, but limited inventory on hand.

This lady is really nice, lets you fit the suits, and has(or used to have) a reasonable inventory at reasonable prices. She is on Portola in Live Oak, which is just a couple of miles from Santa Cruz proper:
Blown Out Wet Suit Repairs

Sunday 10:30AM–5PM

There is also 41st Street Surf, but that also has a bit of a 'tourist' premium.

Odd Fellow Cemetery is in the 'Fishhook' area, which has some nice neighborhoods and is not bad during the day when I was there before. I don't think parking would be a problem, but I have never parked there.

In fact many diverse (TM) and hispanic (TM) have long been training their kids, teens, and twens on how to consistently steal below the limit well in advance of these "changes". Free healthcare, free stuff below $1000, it's the greatest state on earth (to exploit). Of course shops have to make up for the calculated losses from theft and they will tack that onto prices for the "normal" functioning taxpaying member of society. But the writing was on the wall long ago when an acquaintance - an immigrant herself - was fired from a major department store chain for calling the cops on a belligerent diverse (TM) shoplifter who was later apprehended in a Muni bus with all the stolen merchandise for overstepping the boundaries and potential liability. CA is literally the clown world of this nation. Honk Honk!

I wonder if the Fentanyl epidemic was some undercover government work aimed at this exact goal?

That city is up and coming these days. Majority Latino, it’s now a trendy place for young whites to settle and try to renovate a property. Probably the best place to invest in RE and still reap a reward in rising value. Still a fair amount of crime, but the bad element is being pushed out by higher rents as the city works hard towards gentrification.

In retrospect, this was inevitable. Compton is strategically located not too far from the coast, not far from LA, not far from the airport or the port. It’s an ideal location for working people, ensuring a short commute to millions of jobs and a pleasant climate generated by proximity to the coast.

It has always been that kind of magnet from the 20's forward. The kind of mentally off people who think if they move to another location things will be better when they are the problem themselves.

It's an interesting thing; in Florida I met respectable people; often retired, or nurses, doctors, employed, interested in the beach and boating, scuba diving, travel, etc.

Yet, the climate was not nice for the summer months particularly compared to Santa Cruz.

Santa Cruz on the other hand has so many people who are such losers and I have little in common with so many people I know.

Liberals are clueless; I also know lots of illegals who have anchor children who are gaming our system as much as possible; one neighbor lady said that we should build nice apartments downtown for the homeless bums. I was speechless.

The bums are getting aggressive; I have begun to carry pepper spray from time to time. In the winter if I am around I will carry it all of the time since a guy can pop out of a dark corner.

My liberal friends are always saying the same thing; "what can you do?" This means that they really don't care and want to pretend that homeless bums are like the weather, beyond our ability to control.
36   rocketjoe79   2019 Jul 16, 9:58am

This could be solved with tech. Automated vending machines for everything. If you're caught breaking a machine, that's a property damage crime, with pictures so the perp is photographed.

So when the losses begin to exceed the cost of convenience, automation will ensue.

They're all over the place out there, but don't like the taste of people it appears. One day while surfing, I saw an enormous shark snout emerge from the water just outside the kelp beds, attacking something. You're more likely to die driving or bicycling to the beach, or having a heart attack trying to stretch on your wetsuit.
