To the airport. Driver has a Barak type name and I take him to be Pakistani or North African. British English. Afghani?

For the Wall for security reasons.

Anti-illegals as he and his family had to wait years to get in.

Hated the constant Anti-Trump attacks. Said it brought down the country.

Understood that Trump talked like a NYC construction worker. Didn’t care.

Loved America and indignant about ungrateful immigrants who attack president or country.

He was a very nice fellow, Arab possibly. Pro-Trump.

Taxi drivers work long hours for low pay, so it's no surprise to me that the would be against an enormous wave of competition coming into the country and driving their wages down even further.

He was talking about an Uber driver. Actual taxis must follow rules like be licensed, have full time commercial insurance, have provisions for wheelchair and other disabled, service all areas, plus have regular vehicle inspections and real driver background checks. However, I would not be surprised if illegals were driving for Uber/Lyft.

I've seen where a mother registered as a driver, but it was her daughter driving. So the person behind the wheel wasn't the same one on Ubers picture. I asked, she told me that it was her mothers registration. Young average African American girl.

In this case, had you been injured in a accident, you would have NO insurance coverage. Neither would any other vehicle involved in the accident, except uninsured motorist coverage by the policy of the other driver

And I wouldn't be surprised if illegal aliens were driving for actual taxi services. Also, in Crazy California, illegal aliens can get drivers licenses.

The annual Pew Research Center survey on global attitudes to the U.S. and its president, published on June 26, made for grim reading for Trump. Across the 37 countries surveyed, a median of just 22 percent had confidence in Trump to do the right thing in international affairs.

Comparably, Trump's predecessor Barack Obama scored a median of 64 percent towards the end of his second term. But in a few countries, Trump seemed to be at least as popular as his predecessor—if not more. One of those countries was Nigeria, the West African nation of 180 million people.

Of the six sub-Saharan African nations surveyed by Pew, Nigeria was the most confident, at 58 percent, that President Trump would do the right thing in world affairs. This figure was actually the joint-second highest overall—level with Vietnam and behind the Philippines on 69 percent—and Nigerians expressed more faith in Trump than in Germany's Angela Merkel, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian leader Vladimir Putin. More than half of Nigerians said relations between the two countries would improve under Trump, while 55 percent of Nigerian respondents thought of Trump as "caring about ordinary people"—the highest among all the countries surveyed. By contrast, 23 percent of Canadians expressed the same sentiment.

And it is very difficult to get real ID licences.

Starting Oct. 1, 2020, a REAL ID, Enhanced driver's license or ID or passport will be required for those wanting to board domestic flights or enter federal facilities.

It is easy to get real ID, if you are legal. I did it without any problem.

I brought my ss card, my birth certificate, my passport, my boat insurance (live aboard), and a letter from my marina. Nope, would not give me a real id without a utility bill. I made a minor scene and got the dmv supervisor over. "Nope" he said, "you need better proof, like a pg&e bill." Had to order the illegal alien license and will have to use my passport to get on a plane in 2020.

If you don't live in US why do you need California license? They need 2 proof of residence. I used my lease and car registration.

Getting hired by a taxi service doesn't require Real ID, as far as I know. Real ID is a red herring.

As far as additional requirements for taxis...
I have a friend who had polio as a kid. He's in a wheelchair permanently. He, more than anyone else that I know, is super thankful for Lyft and Uber. He says that taxies and public transit, while "required" to deal with handicap issues, are horribly bad at dealing with his basic wheelchair needs. He has had nothing but wonderful experiences with Lyft and Uber. I think this is the difference between government and market economies: government dictate "helpful" things, but private sector has the right incentives to give so much better service that it vastly exceeds the government dictates.

I'll bet you don't live in silicon valley! Advice for people in silicon valley...

Trying to get an official appointment is crazy. There's a 3 month (to the day) wait for an appointment. Literally, at 12:01 AM the next appointment date is opened up 90 days in advance; that day fills up before noon. So, for example, if you respond to a notice in the mail a mere 12 weeks in advance, you're actually doomed; you can ask for any time on any day for any DMV within 30 miles (that means an hour dive each way in traffic) and the website will say "none available."

I started looking 15 weeks in advance, so was able to schedule at least something and then schedule a day of "vacation" from work. But on a rainy cold early morning (this was February) I went to the DMV "DLPC" ("Driver License Processing Center") at 6:30 AM and stood outside with an umbrella. By 6:50 AM a worker actually came out to organize a bunch of lines outside the center! Truly amazing for something related to the government. The center opened at 7:00 AM and the people strode in completely organized. I was actually out the door with Real ID handled before 8:00 AM. Total win!

Also, before you go, fill out your information online at that 3rd party website. Yeah, probably private-company information gathering / tracking / reselling. If you don't do it at home, you'll have to do it at the DMV on the DMV-provided computers. OMG — double dangerous.

My company has 30 wheelchair capable vans. That is, vans where a wheelchair can roll on on a ramp and be locked down. I have yet to see any Uber/Lyft wheelchair capable vehicles. So in your area, Uber/Lyft drivers go through the expense of buying a wheelchair capable vehicle and related training, just so they can service wheelchair bound people on the app platform?
