San Diego has installed thousands of microphones and cameras in so-called smart streetlamps in recent years as part of a program to assess traffic and parking patterns throughout the city.

However, the technology over the last year caught the attention of law enforcement. When police officers picked up Hernandez last summer, they had never used a streetlamp camera in an investigation.

Today, such video has been viewed in connection with more than 140 police investigations. Officers have increasingly turned to the footage to help crack cases, as frequently as 20 times a month.

Nice that it can help solve crimes.

Not so nice that it can be used to track the whereabouts of pretty much everyone all the time.

Late to the party here. Use of Uber, carrying a smart phone, plus riding in future self-drive vehicles already store your location at all times. Combine that with bank card use and we can determined where you went, what you purchased, and even deduce who your bookie is.

SDPD have always been dicks.

If you have a photo ID, you're fucked (Passport, drivers license, FOID card, etc). Whether you're a law abiding citizen or not, you will be able to be tracked in the very, very near future in any major city. Automatically with facial recognition since you gave up your face to get that ID.

The battle for public privacy (if that even makes sense) and anonymity is close to being over unless you live in rural areas. I've been in the bowels of the beast with these cameras and government systems. Understand that even without a phone you will be able to be tracked, even in a vehicle, without you knowing it.

That GPS chip they fired into the center of my brain really itches, and I can't reach it. And they used to call these alien implants. Maybe they should call them illegal alien non-implants, because illegals will be the only ones who DON'T have them.

Facial recognition, like most new tech, is over-hyped. There was an article that just came out today where 20% of California politicians were identified as criminals by FR(I know what you're thinking, but not intended to be the result). Put your car under an LLC, and get one without GPS, or remove the GPS. Don't ever give out your home address. Avoid giving out info you don't have to. Yes, if the government really wants YOU, they will find you. But you're one out of millions, and they likely will never give a shit about you. But if they ever do, the more privacy you protect, the more time you'll have to figure out how to convince them you're not the one.

Not true at all. With 4k camera tech becoming more affordable and 8k on the way, facial recognition is not only here, it's already being used. And with success. Don't assume what CA does with FR is the best, although it probably wasn't too far off with 20% of them being criminals.

This won't do anything. You can find the owner/president of most LLC's in under 10 minutes on the SOS website, at least here in IL. As someone that has needed to search people out for a living, LLC's don't do shit to protect you from being found, just liability personally (and even that doesn't always work). I've yet to not be able to find a phone number or address of a person I needed to locate via public records or paid third party programs/apps.

This is literally impossible. Your car is going to need a physical address (registration - no PO boxes) as far as I know in most states. You have to have an ID to drive said car with your physical address on it. Unless you can walk to work (where they don't ask for a W-9 or W-4 to be filled out - address needed), have no photo ID, no credit card or bank account, pay EVERYTHING in cash, don't have a social security number and don't have kids, then you should be good to go.

I get what you say about privacy. But ultimately it's already gone for 99.999999% of people. Having not done anything illegal, I'd prefer to live a comfortable life knowing that in probably 5-10 years, you'll be able to be tracked everywhere you go regardless of whether you want to be or not. I like travel and won't give that up. So I have to have a passport. The federal government come 2030 will almost certainly be able to track me from my town, to the airport, to my destination if they wanted to.

I don't like it, but I'm not going to live out my life in a physical bunker or digital bunker. There's too much fun to be had and no reason for anyone to be after me.

Not surprising the Land of Authoritarianism doesn't protect your info. New Mexico is different. There is zero requirement that the LLC be in your name, so with the right process, any assets under it will trace back to, nothing.

Yes, LLC address, which won't be yours..

Ghost address, again, not yours. Same applies to every other example you listed.

That always works until it doesn't, and then you're screwed. I prefer a little planning instead, and a LOT of reservation about who I share my life with.

There's a registered agent that requires a physical address. Sure, that can be someone else, have fun not paying that person just to get some privacy for auto registration.... after you've already given all your info for a drivers license. Don't drive I suppose, but that's not a life I'd enjoy.

You also have to have a federal EIN # which requires a social security number to apply for an LLC in New Mexico. By default this will be linked to your address unless you transact exclusively in cash and don't have a bank account or credit card. But, this is impossible as you need an EIN number to have a business or you have to submit info for a W-9 or W-4 as an independent contractor or employee. If you collect cash as a business or an employee, there's no way around the address being given out. Sure, lie, but you immediately incriminate yourself by doing so and you're in worse shape.

There's a reason all this exists. It's to track you. Plain and simple. The minute you were born it was too late to protect your privacy. I respect your urge to protect your privacy, seriously, just understand that it really is futile. If you're not doing anything illegal, enjoy life and have fun. Trying to hide from a monster that isn't out to get you is kind of silly.

Cool. Break the law. I presume you're for illegal immigration and open borders? You like bank robberies? Don't like paying taxes? I live at "this" address and not that one?

Not sure what you have to hide, but your lifestyle is likely miserable constantly concerned about nothing. No one is coming to get you if you don't do anything illegal. Even if you do illegal shit and are smart, it's easy to evade the authorities.

There are people who will file the paperwork who aren't residents, and a guy in NM who gets paid to use his address for this. Driver License requires a physical address, doesn't have to be yours.WookieMan says

If the lie is not for the purpose of defrauding anyone, or deriving any financial benefit, then it's not illegal. There are court cases supporting this.
No system is as powerful as they'd like you to believe. Just like most things in life, it's up to you whether you want to shackle yourself or not.

It's not even about defrauding anyone. How the hell do you pay an electric, gas or water bill without them knowing the damn address where those services are? These documents are always included in school registration AND to get a drivers license. http://www.mvd.newmexico.gov/drivers-license.aspx

You cannot fly under the radar unless you're literally homeless from birth and don't have kids yourself. If you're using a fake address, but still your real name and FACE for an ID, you're fucked. The second you open an electric account at your property, they share the FUCK out of that information. Your name is now matched with your face. That's all it takes. You can play games with addresses until you're blue in the face, it doesn't matter.

FYI, I'm not a fan of illegal immigration. Old article, but it appears at one point New Mexico was cool with it. Source is AP, so ignore it being Fox if someone is going to get caught up in that. https://www.foxnews.com/us/new-mexico-drivers-license-data-point-to-fraud Was too lazy to look up if they changed the law. Either way, support of New Mexico's leniency on drivers license is by de facto support of illegal immigration.

Unless you're doing illegal shit, there's zero reason to not just give your address. You most certainly did to get the lights turned on (the utility that sells your data the most - lol).
