Great. Lawyers will wind up being the landlords as they get everybody in the buildings to sue each other in perpetuity.

Problem in California is that from any random ten people. at least five of them will be aggressively insane ravers with no sense of community or capacity for cooperation on any level.

Sounds like Buyers who missed the market, are demanding real estate stock where none exists.
Typical Rental tenants are renting because they're not ready to buy yet for multiple reasons.
That's why many Landlords are willing to run the "Rent to own" scam. Because it's easier to get rid of them, when they quit paying the house note. Than it is to get rid of a renter with a lease.

At first I thought, cool, they found a way to do that "affordable housing" thing without mooching from taxpayers, but then, buried deep in the article I found this: "Like many nonprofits, land trusts rely on government subsidies...".
