Heard a sob story on NPR this morning about some guy who imports goldfish from China and sees his income decreased because of the tariff. Claims he's been doing it for decade or more but now he's on the ropes. This is mind-boggling: Chinese are going to great length in order to steal IP from US companies and start producing knock-off versions of their product but the fucking guy didn't bother to simply start breeding the fucking fish here and now is whining about his business being ruined by eeeeevil Trump.

I could give a rip about a Chinese goldfish import business.

If there is anything easy to breed, it is goldfish.

There was another story a week or so back, whinging about the reciprocal tariffs on Euro Agra. Somebody was whinging that their $200/lb Cheese import business that employed almost nobody but the owner, was being hurt by tariffs, so we should have industries that employ millions continue to operate under one-way trade regulations from Europe on us without responding.

There was an article in some media outlet several months ago about the difficult task of marketing American cheese in Europe and why Europeans think that the only American cheese there is were these Kraft squares you melt on your burger. Turns out, the problem with selling any decent American cheese was the obscene tariffs leveled on it for many years, long before this particular "trade war" of today.

UPD: Found the article:

"... One of the bestselling products made by Utah-based company Beehive Cheese,...., is the unusual Barely Buzzed - a cheese rubbed with coffee grounds and lavender.

When it's been sold in the UK however, it was for the equivalent of $70 per lb - and in the US, it retails for $24. While an exporter took care of process, Mr Welsh says there were huge transportation and tariff costs imposed on the cheese, and as a result it ended up "being exorbitantly expensive and inaccessible to most UK consumers".
