#trumpreelectionDear:
Your Saturday newspaper. Boris Johnson won in the British elections. Donald Trump sees this as an indication that he will be swept back into office for a second term. Those who laugh at this idea do so at their own peril. This country has an unemployment rate that we have not seen in 50 years. (Normally such low unemployment rates are seen only during a major war with massive expenditures for defense.) The stock market reaches new highs every day. If the Democrats run some far-left candidate, they will hand Trump the election.
Boris Johnson faces peril despite his election victory. Scotland could secede and form its own country. Northern Ireland could reunite with Ireland.
Speaking of countries breaking up, when I lived in Brasil people saw Southern Brasil starting at the state of Rio de Janeiro as a prosperous European country. They saw the rest of Brasil as some Third World African country. A lot of people believed that Brasil would break apart into two countries.

The "unemploment rate" people look at represents people collecting unemployment benefits. We haven't had massive amount of simultaneous layoffs in a long time so that's unusually low.

Labor participation rate is far less impressive.

Perhaps this is a factor in understanding why upward wage pressures aren't higher.

You can click on various subgroups here.

I think that retiring boomer are definitely a factor in that graph. That is labor participation isn't nearly that bad. If you zero in on key working age, you get this graph for the ages 25 - 54.

Still it begs the question, how can this graph not be at a high ? People on disability ? People under 55 that got wealthy just recently, and don't need to work ? Severely ill ? Emotionally unable ? Homeless ? Perhaps cash employed ? This graph is percentage of people age 25 - 54 that are working.

The FRED® Blog What is unemployment?

https://fredblog.stlouisfed.org/2017/03/what-is-unemployment/?utm_source=series_page&utm_medium=related_content&utm_term=related_resources&utm_campaign=fredblog

There's no other reason other than emotional based reasoning, to not try to understand the entire picture. Yes "unemployment" is very low. It's easy to understand why if you know what "unumployment" means.. I get why some want to sell the idea that it's "becasue Trump."

Even if it were true, that if Hillary were President we would be in a recession now, but running FAR FAR lower deficits, then sure unemployment would now be higher, but then there would also be strong economic growth periods in the future of that time line, that correspond to severe recessions in the timeline we are in.

So what we have essentially is a President and republican congress that is willing to run outrageous growth time deficits, just so that the recession doesn't happen on their watch? In other words for political reasons, that I hear so many of you all gladly promoting. (I'm learning more about propaganda all the time).

I'm old enough to remember what integrity looks like.

Here's the U6 rate, admittedly low, about where it was in 2000. Can it crack through that level ?

So jump in bed and cover your head, 4 more years of Trump.
Huckabee saez Trump deserves 4 more years on top of the eight years, because Liberal Commies are suck fuck heads. There needs to be repercussions over their Communist Coup.
Though I say line them all up against the wall and make Greta Shoot them all.

@marcus do you know anyone who is out of a job? I sure don’t. I know some housewives who aren’t working but that’s their choice. Help wanted signs are everywhere. There are still areas of the country with little job opportunities but that’s because of offshoring and such.
