Now only are they planning on limiting water consumption per household, they want you to give up your lawnmower as well... LOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — If you have any gas-powered gardening tools, you may be forced to give them up soon.

California is considering a statewide ban on the equipment.

At least 60 cities in California have some kind of ban on gas-powered garden tools, but now state regulators are concerned about the impacts these tools could be having on the environment.

According to the California Air Resources Board, running a gas-powered lawnmower for an hour will produce the same amount of air pollution as a Toyota Camry driving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas.

There are millions more small off-road engines (i.e.: gas-powered lawnmowers and leaf blowers) in California than there are light-duty passenger cars, according to the board’s estimates.

The board has set a goal of reducing smog from these machines by 80 percent by 2031."

That’s going to be rough on the Mexican landscapers.
For some inscrutable reasons, I actually use a corded electric mower for the small bit of lawn I maintain at my home, maybe 500 sqf. It’s a PITA dealing with the cord, as I mow. Been thinking about getting a battery powered one, since those have increased a lot in utility. But it’s hard to justify the $250 or so that will cost.
But those won’t work well for gardeners, who have to do many lawns per day. And it would be a pretty substantial investment in equipment and extra batteries. Running a cord would really slow them down tho.
Idk. I think they’ll have to up their rates.

There is a movement to do this in some NJ towns as well. They are arguing it's a noise issue. From an environmental perspective, this is fucking stupid. My lawnmower uses less gas in 1 season than these assholes passing these bills use in a single day of commuting.
3   SunnyvaleCA   2020 Jan 9, 1:38pm

I'd rather a ban on leaf blowers. In addition to the pollution (like lawn mowers), there is the much louder noise. But the worst problem with the blowers is that they blow up clouds of dust, pollen, and other particulates. Normally, that stuff just falls into the yard and eventually becomes part of the "soil" when rain washes it down. Now those particulates can be blown from yard to yard to yard.

From the standpoint of fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, you are absolutely correct. But, these small engines don't have catalytic converters or oxygen-sensor feedback loops running fuel injectors and electronic spark control, so they still create huge volumes of "classic pollution" — I call it "classic pollution" because the Global Warming Warriors™ try to also label carbon dioxide as "pollution."

Between the small-engine pollution problems and water shortage problems (actually, it should be called "excessive population living in the desert" problems), they might as well just outlaw grass altogether.

That also means, get ready California is going to fuck up the Lawn Mower for the rest of us.
By time they are through the ridiculously over complicated Gas Can that is virtually impossible to get gas in and out of, without spilling gas on your hands and workplace. will be the simplest part of mowing your lawn.
7   Tenpoundbass   2020 Jan 9, 1:54pm

I bet the Liberal Fag that invented the new Gas Cans, wont even admit it. If you ever see that guy out in public and you ask what does he do.
I'll bet you anything he wont say. "You know that silly pull spout that barely works on a gas can, that safety spout plastic gas can? I designed that!"

Oh yeah, I forgot about the gas can! I've never spilled so much gas in my entire life! (And that includes filling chainsaws in rugged terrain in sub-zero temperatures while wearing cold-weather gloves.)

Glue sniffing homeless people: good

Yeah, WTF? Why are we forced to use a gas can that ALWAYS spills gas?

+1000. Especially jet engine volume 2-strokes that not only bust the ear drums, but stink up the area.

Because California!

Everytime they fart, the Libcoms in Washington imposes their nonsense on the rest of the Country and mandate we adopt their stupidity.

4 stroke weed eaters, crap out in a few hours of use, the carburetors for those tiny engines don't hold up. Electric battery powered ones, shred the weeds, and wont cut think woody hardy weeds.

I was talking about leaf blowers. But in any case, if you have weeds like you describe, you likely live out in the country and are talking about clearing weeds and brush on an acreage. In that case, use a Tim Allen style "rewired" weed wacker and make all the noise you want. I just see no need for a suburban lawn to use loud, smelly devices when for a smaller yard, a rake or electric device are just fine.
18   Tenpoundbass   2020 Jan 10, 9:10am

They grow against fences and walls, if you don't have a good weed eater to get them.
19   FortwayeAsFuckJoeBiden   2020 Jan 10, 9:36am

They won’t enforce it here. All gardeners use gas powered tools, and no way they’ll be chased down.

Home Depot doesn’t sell gas powered once though anymore. I have electrical leaf blower, needs 3 batteries, or it’ll run out early.
20   Shaman   2020 Jan 10, 9:39am

My dewalt electric leaf blower does my yard with half a battery to spare, not much noise maybe 80 db and no smell.
21   RC2006   2020 Jan 10, 10:18am

I use a push mower and electric weed eater.
Mexican gardners seem to like using the rundown gas tools that you can smell the exhaust from 50 yards away. One shitty leaf blower is probably putting out the same as a 1960s Mac truck with a million miles downshifting down a hill.

So far I have yet to see any of the CA laws for things like this to ever be enforced.

Which blower/battery do you have? I just have a Ryobi one and a pretty small battery. Thinking of getting bigger batteries or something, I really go through few batteries with it, just drains them too fast.
23   zzyzzx   2020 Jan 10, 10:42am

I already use electric everything, even my chainsaw is electric. Everything corded. Way better than gas.

Sure you have, you just don't understand you're paying an extra $3.00 in packaging, and that glossy label on bottles, that has a tri fold pull out, with fine print so fucking small you can't even read it? Even though the manufacturer is required by Commiefornia law to write a bunch shit, that hasn't been proven to cause Cancer, but California says you must inform them anyway. Even though they can't read the fucking thing. Because Liberals are so fucking moronic like that.
25   Tenpoundbass   2020 Jan 10, 10:46am

I was going to respond about all of the Cordless crap I have bought, but have since abandoned. And was going to tell you about the batter limitations, and the power limitations, and what a crappy replacement they generally are.
But then I see you said you have Corded electric yard tools. They probably do work better.
The battery powered Ryobi Chainsaw we bought, was worthless. It will not cut down a tree, and the size of limbs it could tackle a good set of loppers would take care of it quicker and easier.

My thoughts exactly.

Mexicans won't use electric mowers as the neverending recharge times would kill business. Secondly, the electric crap breaks so easily.

I went through 5 electric chainsaws before sucking it up and buying a gas. Same with weedeaters. The electric barely have enough juice to trim your yard, let alone edge.

Either way consumers should have a choice. California needs to quit telling people how to live, while the politicians live in their palaces.

DeWalt. Came with a pretty decent sized battery. 6.0Ah I think.
