This is the story of the most important scientific R &D project ever undertaken - the curing of aging and death. Very well written, it describes each of the principal scientists involved today in anti-aging and longevity research, e.g. Arthur Levinson, Cynthia Kenyon, Ray Kurzweil, Aubrey de Grey, Greg Venter, Max Moore, and the high tech visionaries who are funding them. Aging and getting cancer/heart disease/Alzheimers, different things... Just because you can slow or event prevent aging, you're still living longer and increasing your chances of dying from other causes.

It's not just a matter of "Increase X to increase Y". Sometimes X reduces damage to Y but at the cost of making you more vulnerable to Z. Vitamin C/Aging/Anti-oxidants/Free Radicals are kind of opposing forces. High levels of Vitamin C can damage cellular DNA, for example.
