All organizations seek to perpetuate themselves and to expand, regardless of whether it's good for anyone except themselves.

Warren Buffet called this "the institutional imperative".

A smart professor.

Unfortunately he will be probably fired for raycism.

Diversity hires are usually kids of the wealthy getting kickback no show job because parent got a big donation or contract from feds their way.

Nope, he is way too famous and is one of very few absolutely outstanding black academics. He has interesting biography as well, comes from poor background.

I disagree. I went to grad school with a lot of female or black people in Chemistry. It didn't matter if they were originally poor and from Nigeria...they filled a quota and were given the best off job offers far beyond the very best students coming out of the program. They weren't entitled kids by any means.

I worked in a lab where we had two undergrads, both female. Decent students. 3.6 GPA. Above average intelligence. One goes to Harvard for her PhD and other one MIT. At the same time, we had a brilliant male student who couldn't get into either. He did end up going to Berkeley. The two girls have been bouncing around jobs nonstop since they graduated about 10 years ago. Maybe every 18 months, they get a new position at some major science lab where they do no science with positions like "Chief fellow officer in diversity".

It would be interesting to know how much ethnic Igbo background he has.

The large majority of Africans who are stellar academics are Igbo, so perhaps it carries over into some American blacks as well.

Of the same caliber and generation as Thomas Sowell.

Maybe some day this will all appear in hindsight as the mass hysteria does today that generated the McMartin and Amerault child abuse scandals of the 1980's and 1990's, chronicled by Dorothy Rabinowitz.

That's interesting, I haven't seen that side of it, good to know for sure.

I just seen $250k annual pay jobs being offered to people who clearly don't deserve them, not because they are good, but because of some connection they present to their parents. Shit like that I've seen, so was speaking from that perspective. I guess world is just more fucked up than I thought.

What's the problem? Lower standards, ethics, achievement and quality enough, anybody can get through. Then, as someone already stated, after graduation, these wishful thinking graduates become 'career diversity quota placeholder men (women)' to be bandied about so that appearances can be met at various institutions.

They can always be tucked into a space on glorified welfare to point at when the diversity police show up (that is, if the diverse employee even shows up for anything but the paycheck). Just hope you don't put them somewhere where they are actually dangerous. However, a few industrial disasters, institutional tragedies, or medical deaths/misadventures by diversity are a small price to pay for EQUALITY!

Top heavy collegiate bureaucracies will be brought down one Doritos Locos Taco at a time... Taco Bell will try paying some managers $100,000 a year — but In-N-Out Burger already pays managers $160,000

It's a good thing the higher education bubble may end sooner than later (and will, should student debt become dischargable in bankruptcy).

There's nothing better than going into debt to fund diversity commissars, who create problems to justify their paycheck. We have a claque of those locally, complete with a "Hate and Bias Response Team" to tackle all your speech-suppressing needs. And encouragement to attend the Soros March (I mean, "Women's March") "with your university t-shirts on!"

They disapprove of challenging speech, and claim that "hateful" and "incendiary" speech is the true threat to the First Amendment (are totalitarians capable of irony?)

We also get oxymoronic "conversations" about "Free Speech, Tolerance" (so far so good) and "Social Justice" (uh oh) -- in which social justice trumps any need for free speech and tolerance.
