Faculty quality is irrelevant. What matters is how many disabled Inuit lesbians are teaching.

Mandatory diversity training for my wife yesterday. She told me about a breakout session where they were asked to describe a situation that made them feel like an outsider due to their race.
A white male stood up, recounting his youth in LA, attending a school that was nearly all black/Latino and a football game where he was picked last (after the team captains chose along racial lines), yet scored the winning goal and was celebrated by his team. The next day, he was back to being ignored and left out of everything by people who, not sharing his ethnicity, weren’t interested to know him.

That sort of turned the discussion on its head!

I just wrote my five page essay on why diversity programs are unjust, insulting, and ineffective. I'm sure I'll get that job at UC now, because I am sure they invite full discussion of all issues.

"As Abigail Thompson, chair of the mathematics department at the University of California–Davis, described in a Wall Street Journal editorial: “To score well [on a diversity statement], candidates must subscribe to a particular political ideology, one based on treating people not as unique individuals but as representatives of their gender and ethnic identities. . . . This system specifically excludes those who believe in a tenet of classical liberalism: that each person should be treated as a unique individual, not as a representative of an identity group."

A good article about the use of the label 'privilege' used to protect the actually privileged by shifting focus from equality to diversity and blaming lower class white males

Every white person needs to tell their stories of victimhood. In order to get a seat at the table, we need to get our stories out.

I just learned about Post Traumatic Slavery Disorder (PTSD) through my employer and how it's a real problem among African Americans in today's society that we need to spend resources to address. I'm dead serious.

Do we qualify? Nearly all population of Europe (other than in Scandinavia) is descended from serfs.

Exactly it’s not really diversity, it’s just @not white men@.

Asian men are bad as well, they are stealthily excluded from "diversity".

Yes, that's a good point.

Fed her a few gay waiters and cuck boys, then unleashed her at a Donald rally and took bets. A few net guns, tasers and tranquilizer darts, she was dragged back to her lair to sleep it off.

This sounds very similar to what happened between the newly freed slaves and the white lower classes. The only difference between now and then is that the elites are now siding with the people fighting against the white lower class.

You reward people for being victims, everyone will become a victim.

This may actually be a step in the right direction. That is, better than for example than a Mathematics department not hiring someone becasue they are "White" or Asian (becasue the the department is currently disproportionately White and Asian).

Hear me out.

IT says there is a rubric. That means that the rubric known, it's known what they want to see in that statement.

Academic fields tend to have communities, and the most well known and published "Einsteins" are part of what are often close knit communities. If some rising star working on their post doc at Berkeley or elsewhere is wanted, all they have to do is tell them how to play the game (what the rubric requires in that statement) and they can probably even pressure the Admin people behind the policy to put certain applicants at the head of the list, based on what they bring to the table for research etc..

My point is that I wouldn't worry as much about it keeping the most talented out (the point of the article).

But it does sound awful for the medium to above average talent trying to get hired. They are the ones that will lose out to such practices. And that's still a potential cost to the quality of their faculty.

Still sounds to me like maybe (or hopefully) a little bit if a counter-intuitive game going on there.

So-called woke managed to blacklist discoverer of DNA Watson for non-woke opinions expressed in public. It is time to panic, I think...this BS will repel talent and smart kids will go and do something else.

Just like I shouldn't worry about what people do in their bedrooms, until they start to teach about it - mandatory - in Classrooms.

??

Did you read my entire comment ?

My point was simply that having a statement some wanted talent could write is way better than not being able to hire them becasue of their race (or gender).

Yes, that's a good point.

BTW, every use of "equality" should be clarified to mean either:

1. equality of opportunity (a good thing)
2. equality of outcome, regardless of work and talent (a bad thing)

We should all support #1, but the basket of deporables which makes up most of the Democratic Party these days wants only #2.
