Wife works part time at an Amazon distribution warehouse. One of the ones that is just a delivery truck away from you and your order.

Part time for Amazon in California is NO MORE than 20 hours. After that, all kinds of nasty things happen to Jeff The Cheapskate Bezos. Like ObamaCare requirements, etc.

My wife usually works no more than 16 hours per week anyway.

So, when they offer VTO (Voluntary Time Off) a lot or cut back and offer more hours, I get data about consumer demand that the economists won't for a couple of months. Kinda handy. Naturally, during November/December they offer more hours as well as hire temporary seasonal workers. In the summer, the hours drop and VTO offerings go up.

Well, today they made the announcement that ALL VTO is hereby suspended until further notice. Furthermore, they are offering interested part time workers 50 hours per week for two weeks. I am guessing that after two weeks working those hours the State and/or Feds then recognize those employees as full timers.

And it isn't because the economy suddenly exploded in a bigger boom than it already was going through. It is because people are ordering a LOT MORE on-line due to increasing fear of shopping at physical locations. This is the COVID-19 Big Break for Jeff Bezos, kiddies.

And because of yours truly on PatNet has this scoop, now you know what is going on.

That's good for them but they don't make much money if at all with delivery since they're undercutting everyone else, majority of money comes from the cloud business. In fact delivery has been a losing item on their balance sheet for a while, not sure if that changed recently. Still a genius and evil strategy to undercut smaller deliverers to get a massive customer base.

I prefer my COVID-19 delivered on cardboard to my doorstep.
