Comedian Bill Maher has called for a recession, explaining that it’s a way to get rid of President Donald Trump, even if people are hurt. His comments brought public anger on himself.

HBO’s 'Real Time' host Maher said on Friday that although the economy seems good at the moment, he feels that the bottom could “fall out at some point.” And that would be the end for the 45th president.

“That’s my question — I feel like the bottom has to fall out at some point, and by the way, I’m hoping for it because I think one way you get rid of Trump is a crashing economy,” Maher said. “So please, bring on the recession. Sorry if that hurts people but it’s either root for a recession, or you lose your democracy.”

This joke didn’t seem funny to thousands of people, who tweeted their anger on Saturday.

Maher flunked US Gov classes. Constitutional Republic, not Democracy!

Has Maher called for liquidation of the non-conforming 25 percent of the population yet? Did he show off his Stalin and Pol Pot tattoos?

Until then, we're safe from another Great Socialist Paradise failed experiment.

This is where Maher is lying outright, saying the opposite of the truth.

The truth is that DEMOCRACY WORKED when we elected Trump. We were told in no uncertain terms that we had better vote for Hillary -- or else!

The people disobeyed the media, and elected someone who could protect them from the failed Democratic party on the take from globalists seeking to drive them into poverty to boost profits.

And Trump has actually been an excellent president. Democracy worked, and brought us some representation in DC.

1. Russia hoax=failed
2. Bogus impeachment=failed
3. Corona virus “mismanagement” ,Newsom et al fucking up the economy and media spreading panic=hope this somehow helps Biden in November.

I don’t know if I can believe information from China, but after learning that the average age in Italy of the dead from Corona was 81, I began to doubt the reasons for the huge disruption to our society imposed by politicians.

I avoid large groups, theme parks, and cruise ships as a rule so I was never in danger.

Tenured Teachers, Gov't Employees, Academia Admins, etc are all the last to be fired - and that very seldom - and almost never get a pay cut for an economic downturn, they have no Skin In The Game.

Even in the Great Recession, the worst thing that occurred to 98% of these group members was a 2nd year teacher didn't get offered tenure, or there was a 2 yea salary freeze, which was eventually followed up with a huge wage increase that made up the difference later.

Not sure that will work this time. The sales tax hit will be devastating in most places that have it. I know most school districts fund through property taxes, but other government workers at the municipal level get a chunk of their pay from sales taxes.

For example if you're a golfer and a round of golf has sales tax and you would go 2 times a week. When things get back to normal you may golf 2 times a week again, but for the time you didn't golf that sales tax is poof, gone. You're not going to golf 4 times a week for a month or two to make up for the sales tax shortfall. Depending on your municipal budget year, places WILL run out of money and have to cut services or lay government workers off without some huge federal bailout.

The last recession was bad, but people maybe rolled back to one round of golf because they had less money. Or maybe 10% of families skipped a trip to Disneyland. So sales taxes and amusement taxes for sporting events, etc. were still rolling in just not at the same rate. These places cannot generate enough taxes off groceries and pharmacies which are always a constant because people gotta eat and stay alive. I'm starting to have a hard time seeing this recover soon, even if all this stuff was lifted April 1, which it won't be.

Can't budget for $100 in sales tax revenue and only get $20 for very long without massive consequences. No sales tax states are going to have a much better time with this. I hope it makes states rethink the whole idea or maybe decide to live within their means if I can try to find the silver lining in this.

Good point, but there are only 5 states without sales tax. Interesting to see what happens with state income tax receipts. Remember, the bottom half of wage earners pay little or no income tax, so what matters is how much the top half keep earning.

The States and especially Fed Gov will borrow and print like crazy, I think.

The day of reckoning won't come until CA/IL cuts everything to the bone and then only has the final choice left between Government Worker pensions and salaries. They might decide Pensions, since so many pensioned Teachers, Cops, and Admins moved out of state, they'll figure a bunch of them registered to vote in Arizona.

Another Trump Administration Deep State Reveal?

First, the indelibly and incredibly corrupt Dem and DC bureaucrat palace of grey, vicious thieves and liars. Now, with Coronavirus, the obvious failures of the Dems selling our country's jobs and industries out to foreign powers for corrupto-Globalist bucks'n'bribes. Next: the solemn contrast between impervious, protected, blood filled public service union tax ticks vs. productive citizens who will lose their jobs and businesses in droves over the engineered public panics.

The Fed is fine to borrow, but they can't bail out individual states from BK and we've yet to see a state try BK (I think?). IL can borrow, but it's digging the hole so deep to the point you need a ladder you didn't bring into the hole with you.

Remember the pensions were fucked when the market was hitting records all the time (IL/CA specifically). They're doubly fucked now. Add in sales tax revenue that can NOT be made up, government workers gonna be laid off. In mass. Income taxes plummet. If you're a gov worker or contractor, I'd suggest banking as much $$$ as possible right now. I know we are.

My hope is that everyone is doing nothing and banking their paychecks since they're not pissing it away on movies, games, etc... Unfortunately the hourly people are already pounding the unemployment offices. If we don't get back to some normalcy by April 15-20th, I think we enter a legit depression without people spending like gang busters coming out of this.
13   Ceffer   2020 Mar 19, 2:50pm

The only good thing about the public memory having the long term span of the average flea, is that people might just quickly get tired of all this panic and go back to their usual lives and occupations while the Guv wanders around with their Hazmit outfits and bullhorns looking like idiots.

It's a Classic: Y'all sold the cow to the traveling con man for a bag of magic beans and are having trouble facing that simple truth.

Trump has a life history that for personality cult / angry mob reasons, doesn't faze a lot of you here.

You know Fox Fairytales is media right? The largest media. The one that came out 24/7 coast to coast at no charge to all cable providers. Hmmm. Why did they do that? How could they afford that? Why do they trip all over themselves to make Trump's ineptitude look good?

Hmmm, hmmm, hmmm.

Something's going on here.

Yes Jazz, it's TDS on the left that is going on. Rejection of reality, and introduction of fantasy fairyland reality with rainbows, genders 1000, unicorns, and orange man bad.

The DOJ is referring to Trump as a felon since Cohen started admitting Trump's role in those payoffs.

Paying off the porn actress was always only a potential campaign finance violation which isn’t even a misdemeanor. Not a felony.

Great argument against outsourcing our manufacturing base to China:

The coronavirus crisis has revealed what real power lies in material production, and how evanescent post-industrial wealth like America’s can be. Opponents of President Trump’s tariffs celebrated an American economy that increasingly moved toward financial services, on the upper end, and restaurant and hospitality work, on the lower end. Financial services, restaurants, and hotels are not what the world needs most in the midst of a pandemic. Nor are educrats and hospital administrators and health-insurance executives more useful than manufacturing workers and managers who can produce medicines and medical equipment.

All those Democratic globalists that celebrated fatal "free trade" and "sanctuary" are being fucked by their own treasonous policies. And sadly, all Americans are getting fucked with them.

Globalization must end.

Perhaps, some distant day in the future, American leftists may look back upon the Trump presidency and suspect their unbridled, infantile rage caused them to miss out on some joy and hearty laughter, but that may be a bit optimistic.

Lol, "infantile rage", exactly correct
24   marcus   2020 Mar 20, 9:27am

:
Yes, you must be right. Infantile is an interesting choice of words, considering that any objective person sees this President as a total embarrassment in part becasue of his infantile behavior.

How did we get here ? Where something like 40% of the country can't see this guy for who he is ?

No President has ever held such a steady low approval rating after losing the popular vote.

Oh, I almost forgot. That's becasue of the media. It's not that the media reports what he says and does (and even gives him a pass on behavior that would have seemed impossible in any other era).

Some of us remember when President of the U.S. was a dignified role in the world.

"shithole countries ?"

Yes. Hearty Laughter. That's so refreshing.™

I wonder why anyone falls for this, except to justify buying a car they cannot really afford. The so called "0%" is build into the price of the car. Offer to pay cash at the end of the negotiations and you will be able to get a better price. Do not offer until the end, since dealers know cash buyers tend not to go for the extras like "undercoating," "paint protection," or "etched glass" and will be less reluctant to deal initially.

The price of the car should always be negotiated separately from the price of financing, duh. But you are wrong about cash being an incentive for a dealer to give you better price. It might be the case in the 80s and maybe 90s, but nowadays due to all kind of convoluted manufacturer's incentives to use their financing dealers don't really want you cash. So, most of the time, whatever price you negotiate before offering to pay cash will not be lowered if you suddenly plunk a wad of greenbucks on the table. Talking about new cars, of course. With used cars all bets are off.
29   HeadSet   2020 Mar 20, 10:37am

True, but that may not apply to "0%" deals. At one time GMAC was the most profitable part of GM, and each dealer made a vig for selling GMAC loans, but these were market rate with a pre-payment penalty to boot.

We are fortunate to have an anti-globalist as president at this moment.

The extreme harms of globalization are becoming very clear to everyone: disease, disrupted supply chains, and millions of Americans put out of work by outsourcing to China and insourcing illegals from Mexico.

The coastal elite has no shame about fucking over the American working class and then calling them "racist" if they dare to complain. But the Wuhan virus is something that even they cannot ignore.

Your drywall better be US made, but drywall is typically US made anyway. Houses built with Chinese drywall because the 90s building boom created a shortage of US drywall are uninhabitable. Chinese drywall had chemicals vapors strong enough to corrode electrical circuits and make the home owner very ill. Funny thing though, when the homeowners pursued damages, nobody could locate the manufacturer. That, along with lead painted toys and unsafe plastic bottles, was a warning about trading with China.
