Cruises are fine vacations as well. I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea, so I'm not going to argue against anyone that doesn't like them, I get it. Just understand that the food and booze industry in the states makes mucho $$$$ off supplying those ships in American ports where most originate from.
Those old Senior bastards can booze it up at the VFW Club like American's are supposed to do.
Travel Industry. Restaurants. Cinema. The Frivolous Economy.

I love cruises. I'd be the first one on a boat provided that masks aren't required.
I do predict we'll probably stop cruising around the age of 50 or so
Going to be blunt, but some of the dumbest people I know barely travel and when they do it’s some 3 hour car trip to an average or tourist shithole location. Travel is as important as getting educated in my opinion. Going to 2nd and 3rd world countries, even in the popular spots is eye opening.
Is that your way of telling us you're around the age of 50 or so?
Some of the dumbest people I know live in a Bubble of Privilege.
They live among Americans living in 2nd or 3rd world conditions, just miles or even blocks away from their idyllic Pleasantvilles.
I do predict we'll probably stop cruising around the age of 50 or so. I'm hoping to take up sailing over the next decade with Lake Michigan so close and being able to learn there. Then we can just bareback charter a cat or monohull down in the USVI, BVI or anywhere in the Caribbean. Wife is a nervous Nancy though, so even if I'm trained it will still be a battle to get her on board literally and figuratively.
Learn how to sail well THEN take your wife out on the fair weather days. Get her hooked on the joy and beauty of a nice day of sailing before gale force winds make things "interesting ".

Nope. 37. Without Covid the risk/reward factor to cruising diminishes as you get older. Only a moron would think living in 10x10 rooms for a week on average is a good idea with high blood pressure, overweight, diabetic, etc.. That's why I find it strange it's popular with the older folks. Logic is a funny thing.
Unless you're living in the mountains or something, every single place in the US has running water, sewer/septic and reliable electricity.

Good to know you have it all figured out at 37.
I'll tell thehomelesslazy I see in places like creekside trails and under freeway overpasses in Silicon Valley that you said so.
Outside of the truly disabled, homelessness is a choice. Especially in high COL areas

These vagrants are lazy and deserve nothing.A young, able bodied black man whom I've seen pan-handling before approached me in the parking lot of a restaurant I frequent and specifically asked for $10--he got $1. When I went in I told the lady inside and she said he's a regular--she went out to him one day with an employment application since he at least seemed to be there all the time and he quickly left. He's broke because he refused edification when he had the chance and is now socially worthless and wouldn't even wash dishes or mop the floor as a shoe-in. No telling how much he collects every day!

My wife's not the biggest fan either.

Civitavecchia (Italy) (AFP) – A cruise ship carrying hundreds of quarantined international holidaymakers docked in virus-hit Italy Wednesday, after a woman who tested positive disembarked in Greece, sparking fears among those on board.
“We’re all very, very, very concerned,” Dutch passenger Hans Rijkelijkhuizen told AFP from aboard the Costa Victoria.
The vessel has been looking for a safe port after evacuating an Argentine woman who fell ill with respiratory problems.
The 726 passengers were placed in lockdown in their cabins on Monday after the woman, 63, was taken off the ship in Crete.
“There are lots of people on board with a temperature,” said Rijkelijkhuizen, 78, who was on the cruise with his 74-year old wife.
Rijkelijkhuizen, who had a slight fever and a cough, said many, including he and his wife, had been given paracetamol by the ship doctor.
“Do we have the virus? We don’t know,” he said, standing on the tiny balcony of his cabin in a red wind jacket.
