Screaming they'd have to layoff workers, the Kennedy Center begged the Democratic House for $25M and got it. Then they laid off all the part time and plan furlough 60% of the Full Time Employees. Naturally, no claw backs or cuts for the very important and connected people in senior leadership and Board positions.

“We are really grateful for this $25 million, but I will tell you that it does not keep us whole,” Rutter said, acknowledging the bailout had made them “the target for a lot of unhappy people who believe we are taking the money away from sick people.”

Staff at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts were informed that many of them would be losing their jobs because the financial situation at the arts organization was so dire.

“This $25 million does not allow us to maintain our current structure,” Rutter said on the call. “If we had not received any cash and everything had stayed exactly as it is today, no changes, we would draw fully on the line of credit, we would be out of cash on May 15.”

But they did receive the cash... and represented it as necessary NOT to let people go. Yet all along planning to do so regardless of taxpayer cash received or not.

Can we kill ALL Arts funding that isn't directly related to celebrating the positive aspects of US History, like Statues of Patton, Jimi Hendrix playing the Star Spangled Banner murals, shit like that.

If some Pink haired freak wants to do something, get a fucking Patron. I doubt Uriah the Used Car Dealer wants to pay you $20,000 a year to make a toilet in the middle of an empty room and call it "Modern Life".

Agreed, it's definitely a good idea.

What's really going on is rich people trying to impress each other for ego-masturbation points.

In fact, nearly all modern art is just ego-masturbation by the rich. They can't impress their friends with ordinary commodities, so they by shit art instead, because they can pay so much more for it. That's the whole point of modern art.

Visited SFMOMA a few months ago and it was depressingly full of what all sane people should regard as shit, made by artists who get big heads because they managed to sell shit.

Sure, classical art was also funded by the rich, but it's clearly not just shit like a canvas stained with grease, or a pile of legos. Ugh.

The emperor's new clothes keep selling.
