What will be the fatality rate of our insane overreaction?

As I write, the rate of increase of new cases of the CCP virus seems to be stabilizing in many places, including early hotspots like Washington and California. What’s growing exponentially across the country are unemployment claims, which last week suddenly shot up from a historic low. There were more than three million new claims. This week the number is 6.6 million.

Network newsmen are doing their best to impersonate the protagonist of Edvard Munch’s painting ‘The Scream’. Hysteria, not accuracy, is the order of the day. A case in point was the footage aired by CBS that purportedly depicted the chaos of an overrun hospital in the US. Only after the network was called out did it admit its ‘mistake’ in airing footage from an Italian hospital. When Donald Trump said that he was sending hospital ships to help busy hospitals in New York and Los Angeles, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow scoffed that it would takes weeks and weeks to deploy them. They docked and were open for business a few days later. Much of the media would heartily second California governor Gavin Newsom: the coronavirus pandemic, he said, is an ‘opportunity’ to implement a leftist agenda. ...

But remember, 2.8 million people die every year in the US. The seasonal flu hospitalizes hundreds of thousands every year and kills anywhere up to 80,000. Overall deaths this season are actually down because of the coronavirus: people are not out and about as much, so fewer have died. In one sense, then, it has been a lifesaver. The panic surrounding it, on the contrary, has been a lethal assault. It’s too soon to say what the fatality rate of our insane overreaction will be.

Was watching a bit of a Frontline special on Washington (state) and the response to COVID-19 last night. No mention of this.
The hastily built field hospital set up by the Army in Seattle's pro football stadium is shutting down without ever seeing a patient, so the service can shift resources where they're more urgently needed, Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee said.

Calm down now. We were flattening the curve dude and expected stadiums full of dying patients said the "experts" on this.... LOL!! Sarcasm off.

At no point were we ever going to have stadiums/convention centers full of dying people. There's not enough dying people that the virus can kill. There's more and more evidence this was here in January. It was likely earlier. The math isn't adding up in a lot of areas. Anecdotally and factually.

The reason I brought it up is the interviewees were all bringing up "Muh federal response" (implied Orange Man Bad), yet the doc failed to mention a whole field hospital was set up for them.
To your larger point, though, it is clear that you can overwhelm hospitals if you don't have some sort of societal response (the most extreme being a near total shutdown with only essential businesses open).

It's not who dies, it's whether the right people die. Saving lives comes at a cost.

The 79 year-old fossil Fauci needs to be sent to the glue factory already. His knowledge of current immunology is sorely lacking. Let him get his prima donna rocks off elsewhere.

Why can’t someone just cough on that idiot already?

A few weeks ago, the papers were full of "Hospitals laying off staff in the middle of this epidemic!"

Now they aren't, because it hurts their narrative - if hospitals are laying off staff and going broke, that means the TrumpVirus isn't killing enough people.

First known death now Feburary 6 in Santa Clara County. Two week incubation means this person would have contracted in last week of January. And unless this guy just stepped off the plane from Wuhan, it was probably circulating around the Bay Area for a few weeks before that. Kung Flu was certainly in the US in January, and could easily have been here in December.

The seasonal flu ...kills anywhere up to 80,000,.

CDC says influenza deaths haven't exceeded 61,000, with a yearly average of around 35,000. https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/index.html

Yet again, cons have to lie to "prove" their point.

Looks like you are lying again. Here is on CDC's own webpage:

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/2017-2018/archive.htm

Paragraph 2 in "2017-2018 Estimates": "CDC estimates that the burden of illness during the 2017–2018 season was also high with an estimated 48.8 million people getting sick with influenza, 22.7 million people going to a health care provider, 959,000 hospitalizations, and 79,400 deaths from influenza."

Then again, it wouldn't be surprising if CDC lied back then to make numbers look bigger, then lying again now to make the number look smaller in order to make the 2019-2020 season look unusual. When government pays for something (including "science"), a lot of trash and lies get produced . . . just like in government-paid medical frauds and government-paid education.

We're already fat enough, so in addition no exercise and 24/7 netfucks and junk food delivery surely is going to lead to quite a few premature deaths. Maybe more than the CV-19 deaths.

Why would the pressure hospitals to put death as covid when it was something else? Seen peoples stories as well.
this just keeps getting more interesting!

Media has an agenda and you can tell what they want to portray by their questions and responses to the doctors. These doctors and others objectively analyzing the data on the front lines are who the people should hearing from. Just listening to the reporters questions and tones of voice one can easily see the mainstream media cannot be trusted anymore. All objectivity is lost with this group of reporters in this video

CDC: 80,000 people died of flu last winter in U.S., highest death toll in 40 years

Doh!

I found a reference on 2017-2018 flu deaths in NYC that gave an IFR of over 5, ridiculous, until you realize that most cases weren't diagnosed using lab tests, and many went unreported because IT'S JUST THE FLU.
