As Trump goes, so goes Fox and 80% of Patrick.net, sad

"As the coronavirus swept across the U.S. last month, top hosts at Fox News described hydroxychloroquine, an immunosuppressive used to treat and prevent malaria, as a solution to the pandemic they spent much of February and early March severely downplaying. And the president followed suit. “HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE & AZITHROMYCIN, taken together, have a real chance to be one of the biggest game changers in the history of medicine,” wrote Donald Trump on March 21, in just one example of the numerous times he promoted the unproven COVID-19 treatment. “Hopefully they will BOTH…be put in use IMMEDIATELY. PEOPLE ARE DYING, MOVE FAST.” And yet, after weeks hawking the drug as a miracle cure, both the network and the president have quietly abandoned it amid new studies showing it has no positive effects on COVID-19 patients and, in fact, could result in more deaths."

There is still a lot of evidence the hydroxycholoroquine does in fact help.

Ok so let me get this straight, you reference a study in which the patients weren't randomized, but the ones in the worst condition were given the drug whereas the ones that were in better condition were not and you want to draw conclusions from that. Did you read the study?

The true effects of the drug are still up for debate and the data is being gathered. A prudent student of science would wait to draw conclusions. You are just proving you are not that and instead, your decision making process is based off of TDS.

Consider the risk/reward.

If it doesn't work, we all know (and some even like it) that he bullshits, lies and sounds like a moron constantly, so there was absolutely zero downside (from his and his supporters self centered point of view).

If it had worked ? He would have been taking credit for helping to save lives and restoring MAGA for the rest of his life ! Future idiocracy would have had statues and folk songs about the greatest President ever !

And perhaps some friends would have (or did either way) cashed in big time as a bonus.

If Trump had just quietly prompted the FDA to move as it did to say that they weren't opposed to it being used experimentally for that purpose and then let the medical community figure out whether they believe it works, that would have been optimal. Having a run on the drug when there are other people that need it for the purposes it's known to work, is bad for everyone. Instead he has to make it about himself - "if this works and I get some credit it will be great for me politically."

How can he not stop to think ?

The problem is that lack of downside I mentioned at the beginning. That's the very frightening and very real risk Trump presents on a regular basis. "I could shoot someone on fifth avenue." It's not a good thing.

The point being medical information shouldn't be political or fantasy. Trump is not qualified to be making the sort of promotional statements he made for this drug, he should have said nothing let Brixx and Fauchi speak to it rather than have them half heartedly back off Trump's blind promotion of an unproven therapy. Trump TV ( Fox) is also unqualified and obviously, the anything Trump says is true, meaningful and wise 80% on P. net are too. I was and remain open to further studies but have felt way too much time, money and energy was being put into this one potential therapy, that almost certainly was at best a symptom modifier and not a preventative or the cure as it was being promoted.

148 out of every 1 million Americans are currently dying of coronavirus

Holy cow! How would you propose stopping an airborne virus and people keeping food on the table?

Sorry, but this is a hysterically low number. Not sure if that was your point and why you spelled million. 148 of 1,000,000. Optics matter and I think the media has got everyone by the balls. Oh well. I'll just ride it out at home, no biggie for me.

And be well protected when you have to go get groceries. Strip and shower when you get home.

I'm not going to do that though. And I also won't be mandated to do that.

Certain segments of the population need to wake up and realize that you can't expect others to do shit for anyone. When I go to the grocery store, only twice so far, so I've been a good little puppet, I ignore the tape or the one way isle thing. If you're afraid of a grocery store, have it delivered and wash it and all that bs. That's not my problem. Services exist that can do that.

If you're afraid of a restaurant, don't go. If people want to do what you're talking about, go for it. I'm not. My toilet flushes have gone hockey stick on me so I have to save water and won't shower unless I smell like a dumpster. The cool part is that I can do that and you or the government don't have a say in the matter.

If you're afraid

A lot of people are acting like it's a mutant strain of Ebola that will cause you to bleed from the eyes if you walk past someone, anyone.

We are overdue for a killer plague. This isn't it.

FFS - if our garbage Media didn't go ape-shit over EVERY utterance made by Trump to frame it as a gotcha, this wouldn't even be a story.

Are you suggesting our doctors are so retarded they are going to prescribe medicine simply based on what Trump says to Jim Acosta from CNN at a press conference?

You all act like Trump is advocating Chemotherapy or some brand new drug that has barely been tested.

Trump was rightly excited about this drug because it was super cheap, super available and had been used for half a century with very few side effects.

But you fuckers had to politicize it and make it a huge story. Even blaming fish tank cleaner lady's husband's death on Trump.

Lots of people in our media and politics were high on Remdesivir the past few weeks. The Stock Market jumped nearly 1,000 points when first data was coming out about this drug's promise. Now the latest data today is showing this drug is probably a bust. This fucking sucks, but I would never think to make this some sort of political attack on Democrats who were optimistic about this drug.

What is wrong with Liberals?

I think we can all agree now, that the reason there isn't a cure for Cancer because Liberals stand in front of the way on everything.
They want mass extinction, they want oppression and death, they want communist dictatorship, they want world economic collapse, they want mass starvation.
They are pure evil and nothing else.

Yes, some are that retarded, but its more likely Trump's followers after hearing his comments would demand it. It beats me but for some reason they think he tells the truth and knows something. Why you think the pharma companies promote all these fucking drugs on TV ad after TV ad? Think that is for the Doc's information? Nope its so the patients can put pressure on the the Docs to prescribe the drug. Trump is a promoter and a damn good one for his followers.

Trump just cant keep his pie hole shut

read my thread on this - both hydroxy and remdesivir may still be beneficial in many settings.
