"I live at 41 st ave. Santa Cruz CA 95062 and have an unfortunate birds eye view of hundreds of people publicly urinating in the Hook bathroom area and surrounding grass areas of the parking lot . This occurs constantly and is very frustrating to have to watch as my husband and I shelter in place at our home. I have called the non emergency line and requested law enforcement help to no avail.
I had also reached out to public health about this issue and have not been contacted.
I think that the current pool of yellow fluid at the entrance to the closed men’s restroom is an abomination and poses a health risk to many including the people who continue to urinate on top of it.
It is a disgusting sight to watch a father teach his young son how to urinate in public. It has taken great restraint on my part not to publicly shame many of them as I watch. Although I had to tell two guys yesterday to move their illegal act away from my fence and out of my view since I couldn’t handle viewing one more despicable act yesterday as I tried to relax on my balcony."
That's yet another bullshit move also here in SF most bathrooms are closed, few are open. While there is a very small chance of infection in the bathroom the advantages of having public bathrooms available, esp. in park areas, outweigh the 0.001% infections that could happen. If you're by yourself - no funny business! - and wash your hands well and don't touch too much of the surroundings (use paper towels) it's pretty much impossible to get infected in a bathroom. We should reduce the taxes we pay by the percentage of closed bathrooms on our tax declaration.
The real reasons that they closed the bathrooms: 1. Make visiting Santa Cruz as inconvenient as possible. 2. Nobody wants to clean the bathrooms now, they are afraid to go in. The bosses likely heard threats from SEIU if they forced workers to do their job.
