My laptop was getting very hot repeatedly, so I checked which process was busiest. It was Spotify, the music app.

So I ran "lsof" to see which files it had open. Answer: all of them! It literally had thousands of files open, and they were not music files. They were personal, OS, all kinds of things.

WTF? I restarted it.

Then later, on a different laptop of mine, Spotify asked for permission to access my contacts via a MacOS popup. I said no.

Then it asked for permission to access my calendar. I said no and deleted the app.

Spotify looks like it's carrying malware.

I've been getting these "Nigerian" emails with a twist. They say that they have videos of me masturbating to online pornography, and that i have to sent bitcoin to some site to keep them from going public. Of course, they are generic phishing.

It's entertaining and a good public service to waste their time.

Did you install their software on your machine?
Don't do that.

Thanks @Booger maybe it really was just scanning for music files and got carried away because of a bug. Still annoying. Maybe the browser version is good enough to use.

Spotify just bought Joe Rogan for 100 million and their stock went up 5 billion.

I had a tooth ache earlier in the week, saw a couple of medicine bottles in the cabinet the wife was taking for an issue before the lock down started.
I was Googling to see if one of them was antibiotics. One was a NAID, after I Googled it and tried to close the browser. My Android phone gave me a toast panel, that would not let me close out the browser or open any other app on my phone until I acknowledged that my search was being logged, and given a link for the dangers of Opioids.

Just a day after the Scumbags in the Senate all voted to allow Google to give the government our search data.

The best and only remedy is to uninstall it. You think those Pink Hair Zer's need your permission? Spotify will just keep doing it without your knowledge.

Saw that. Didn't always agree with his stance/opinion, but seemed like a very neutral source and decent interviewer. For $100M those days are gone. Sad. He will no longer be autonomous and be able to do what he wants. He's lost a ton of respect from a lot of people with this move.

Actually, part of the deal is that he WILL be able to be autonomous and apparently even more so than utube content producers.

Given Pat's experience I don't think I'll become a spotify customer though.

Yeah, but not when the advertisers start dumping his show because of a controversial stance, which he kind of has many. There are backdoors in any contract of 9 figures. Hopefully he sticks to his morals or backs out of the contract when they start dictating guests and topics for him. It's a guarantee regardless of what Joe says or Spotify. At some point they will try and pull control from him.

Spotify is lip syncing my image into Miley Cyrus songs. I'm suing.

Howard Stern, once he became a 100 million dollar man completely changed his act and opinions.

Spotify has been great until this point. Best music deal around. Maybe the web version is safer to use.

I think he already started changing. He was commenting on the Ahmaud event and said some ignorant shit. Normally he has a pretty good anti BS view of current events, but not here imo.

Saying no to a whopping $100M is tough in a world already filled with fiction.

Will he start wearing a toupee and go all corporate SJW on our asses, now?

On the plus side, Joe is claiming he's pissed at Google censorship and wants people to know

Jones said Rogan told him he is sick of being treated poorly by Google, and the straw that broke the camel’s back was that Rogan wanted to interview doctors and experts who have differing opinions on the coronavirus to the officially sanctioned narrative, and was told by YouTube that they would not allow such content on their platform.

Isn't it amazing how the consensus arose so quickly? Even though it hasnt had so much as a year to be examined yet?

But big tech knows already what the consensus is. Our betters are just so smart and fast!

Maybe but I spent over $30 today on two metal rings to make eggs and Engrish muffins simply because they were made in the USA (nicer too). I treat data mining thieves the same way. I'll stick with Pandora on my roku and find an alternate way to Rogan if I want to.

I very much appreciate the warning Poohbah!

If this doesn’t fire up the engine of industry in a few entrepreneurs to create an open venue for media hosting that does not discriminate, I don’t know what will. This whole big hairy incident should be the impetus for society to drop using fab, ig, yt, and Twatter. It’s time for people to back the truly open market that they seek the government mandate for them but will never have due to the same.
