Hydroxychloroquine also seems to protect against heart disease

Coronary artery disease is a common disease that seriously threaten the health of more than 150 million people per year. Atherosclerosis is considered to be the main cause of coronary artery disease which begins with damage or injury to the inner layer of a coronary artery, sometimes as early as childhood. The damage may be caused by various factors, including: smoking, high blood pressure, hypercholesterolemia, sedentary lifestyle, diabetes and insulin resistance. Once a coronary artery disease has developed, all patients need to be treated with long term standard treatment, including heart-healthy lifestyle changes, medicines, and medical procedures or surgery. Hydroxychloroquine, an original antimalarial drug, prevents inflammation caused by lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis. It is relatively safe and well-tolerated during the treatment. Since atherosclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis have resemble mechanism and increasing clinical researches confirm that hydroxychloroquine has an important role in both anti-rheumatoid arthritis and cardiovascular protection (such as anti-platelet, anti-thrombotic, lipid-regulating, anti-hypertension, hypoglycemia, and so on), we hypothesize that hydroxychloroquine might be a promising choice to coronary artery disease patients for its multiple benefits.

Gosh, "It is relatively safe and well-tolerated" unless Trump recommends it.

And, several sites have mentioned that "After Morocco and Algeria began using HCQ, a trend break and sharp reduction in their COVID-19 case fatality rate occurred." though I haven't found links to the primary source.

We know the drug has real benefits for malaria, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. but....

“A study of 96,000 hospitalized coronavirus patients on six continents found that those who received an antimalarial drug promoted by President Trump as a ‘game changer’ in the fight against the virus had a significantly higher risk of death compared with those who did not,” the Washington Post reports.

“People treated with hydroxychloroquine, or the closely related drug chloroquine, were also more likely to develop a type of irregular heart rhythm, or arrhythmia, that can lead to sudden cardiac death, it concluded.”

Said cardiologist Eric Topol: “It’s one thing not to have benefit, but this shows distinct harm. If there was ever was hope for this drug, this is the death of it.”

Would be nice to get a link to original research article, published in a peer-reviewed journal. otherwise, it is just journalistic hearsay
There are peer-reviewed articles that claim HCQ is useful:

In the context of the ongoing global outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), management of exposure events is a concern. Long-term care hospitals (LTCHs) are particularly vulnerable to cluster outbreaks because facilities for patient isolation and healthcare personnel to care for these patients in isolation are difficult to arrange in a large outbreak situation. Although several drugs have been proposed as treatment options, there are no data on the effectiveness and safety of post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) for COVID-19. After a large COVID-19 exposure event in an LTCH in Korea, PEP using hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) was administered to 211 individuals, including 189 patients and 22 careworkers, whose baseline polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests for COVID-19 were negative. PEP was completed in 184 (97.4%) patients and 21 (95.5%) careworkers without serious adverse events. At the end of 14 days of quarantine, all follow-up PCR tests were negative. Based on our experience, further clinical studies are recommended for COVID-19 PEP.

“ The study, obtained early by The Washington Post and published Friday in the medical journal the Lancet, is the largest analysis to date of the risks and benefits of treating covid-19 patients with antimalarial drugs. It is based on a retrospective analysis of medical records, not a controlled study in which patients are divided randomly into treatment groups – a method considered the gold standard of medicine. But the sheer size of the study was convincing to some scientists.”

Obviously to the scientists who aren’t actual scientists. Many other factors weren’t considered like age, at what stage of illness the HCQ was given (if end stage then of course more of them would die than the ones who weren’t given HCQ because they never got to end stage).
This study is very poorly done and not peer reviewed. It’s not a clinical study but simply an arbitrary statistical analysis based on factors and assumptions not fully explained.

Democrats: I wish all Republican Trump supporters would drop dead!

Also Democrats: No you can't use HCQ because it might kill you!

not peer reviewed

This says it all. Not peer reviewed = garbage. I was hearing that from more left-leaning persons...when it benefited their ideology. Now, when it does not, journalwhores trot non-peer reviewed articles out as a golden standard of science, while conveniently ignoring peer-reviewed articles such as one I posted above. I took some time yesterday and found that there are quite a few peer-reviewed articles about benefits of HCQ in corona treatment and prevention. Why are they not being widely reported about in media? Perhaps because most of our MSM journalists are stupid, incompetent, scientifically illiterate and morally bankrupt whores (no offense to real whores, whom I have nothing against)?

This is probably the most annoying thing, as ORANGEMANBAD cult adherents are ignoring facts staring in their face. Brain has been switched off, just like for followers of any religion...After Trump bailouts I thought I will not vote for him ever again, but the willful blindness and permanent lies from MSM may make me change my mind.

I hear if you take HCQ it will give you a big dick like Michelle Obama that you can use to beat CV19 to death.

I certainly agree. There are good large double blind studies on going, they take time. The take away from conflicting studies is a simple one. Buyer beware. Not "what do you have to lose"

To anyone having doubts about hydroxychloroquine Please checkout chris marterson on peak prosperity channel on youtube. Stop taking data from MSM which is biased.

Taking HCQ offends the liberals. It is worse than a MAGA hat! We need hydroxychloroquine vending machines on every corner.

There are small scale double-blind studies already published in peer-reviewed journals. Please see P Gautret, JC Lagier, P Parola, VT Hoang, L Meddeb, M Mailhe, et al.
Hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin as a treatment of COVID-19: results of an open-label non-randomized clinical trial Int J Antimicrob Agents (2020), Article 105949

More studies are definitely required for the science to be settled. However, if larger scale studies will support preliminary results obtained so far, it will not matter because ORANGEMAN BAD, CAN NOT BE RIGHT ABOUT ANYTHING, SO LETS HYPE CRAP WHICH IS NOT PEER-REVIEWED

No its just he should keep his mouth shut about things he knows nothing about, that would include all things medical.

99.9% of journalists also should keep mouth shut about 99.9% of everything they report on

Actually, Trump gave out an informed opinion, and many studies and experiences are tending toward that Trump' opinion may be correct. Trump's detractors are just beating the bushes hunting down any source to counter hydroxychloroquine as useful against CV-19, merely because Trump said it could help. ABC News has been harping for over a week about single study that hydroxychloroquine may increase the chance of possible heart issues with a certain ailing demographic.
