This should be handled like McConnell with the "Green New Deal": Force an on-the-record vote from the local government members. Literally defunding police departments would have nearly zero support as soon as people thought it could actually happen. In Minneapolis, the local fruitcakes may disband the MPD, but the police role will just be taken over by an expanded Hennepin County Sheriffs Department. There are too many sane voters around to let disbanding the police get actually enacted, plus the Dems do not want to lose a major campaign contributor in Police Unions.

While the above sounds like 'conspiracy theory', in practice, it's pretty much what will play out.

It's a wonder because I know a lot of cops, both in the city of Cambridge and the surrounding 'burbs, and many of them are outstanding citizens not rogue vigilantes. They follow procedures and are very nice to the general citizenry. The idea that ppl are afraid of them is a misnomer, as many of our local police officers talk to ordinary ppl at convenient stores, diners, town halls, libraries, etc. And yes, there are black and latino cops so it's not just some stereotype of an Irish gang beating up on minorities as the media likes to portray them.

To replace 'em with mercenaries is the equivalent of saying goodbye to our communities and turning them into a corporatist version of Afghanistan.

That's the Left's plan to replace the cops with people who are there to enforce SJW issues, not crimes.

They will come and rustle you out of your house, with the most prejudice force, if you violate any of the Liberal creed.
