Maybe the Democrats shouldn't have pushed identity politics for short term political gain?

Not sure that it's just short term political gain. In fact I would argue that it largely works against the center left.

It's the post modernism of leftist intellectuals among other things that has allowed identity politics to take root. Perhaps also a backlash against right wing identity politics, which you might argue was also a backlash in the first place.

With no center we go back and forth between each sides making fools of themselves - to such a degree that each side can see it's own sides foolishness (at a minimum on the center right and center left). Not sure how many of the right wingers on this forum are center right enough to appreciate how much of an embarrassment Trump is.

Not true. In fact I find it bizarre that someone can tow the party line on all or most issues. It's quite common to be for example socially conservative in many ways, but liberal with respect to economic issues. Or you might have someone who is against gun control, but pro choice, and not that freaked out immigration, and also for low taxes (or even a believer in supply side trickle down).

Back in the day most politicians voted one way on some issues, and the other way on other issues. This by definition puts you in the center.

Also, if you watched the video, you would see the best point it made starting at 13:42 or so.

This. You're trying to over complicated things through language. The left uses language, that they don't know how to BTW, and the right just gets stuff done. You've over complicating language and what you're trying to say in a single sentence. The left will like this, but have no clue what you just fucking typed. The right won't have a clue or care. This isn't the entire gap between left and right, but just a part of it.

The left is not remotely as "intelligent" and smart as they pretend to be. They're no different than the trailer trash in Arkansas. It's part of the problem. The left is as dumb, if not dumber than the right but they don't know it. And that is what makes it scary.
6   MisdemeanorRebel   2020 Jun 29, 2:08pm

The Democratic Party has moved far, far to the Left.

One great example is that a plurality of Dems and Reps agreed in the 1990s that we had too much immigration. Today only a tiny sliver of Dems agree.

Reparations, Disbanding (which became Defunding after it backfired) Police, "China is not a Threat", Sob Stories about H1Bs and Mass Immigration must continue regardless of economic conditions, Russian Collusion Conspiracy Theories, "Whiteness" must be eradicated, Confusing Cases with Deaths, etc.

These are all non-controversial ideas among most Democrats.

You wish that were true. Then everyone center left or center person thinks the far left has lost it's mind, would have to be a Trump Cuck, or else live with being a squish, whatever that means.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you aren't interested in this, which is more or less confirmation. But hey, we're not all alike in the way we think about this stuff.

Yep. Remember when Clinton and most Democrats said abortion should be safe, legal and rare? Now abortion is a ghoulish sacrament to them all the way up to crowning - and they are proud of it!

I wonder if Marcus can find a single example of a prominent Republican changing views as strongly as Democrats have changed on immigration, abortion, gays/trannies, founding fathers.

Dude, most of the country wants to be in the center. But the moment you don't fucking kneel in obedience to the left or don't denounce America, they label you a "right winger". I mean FUCKING ASSHOLES or what? They even called Lincoln racist.

I'm sorry Marcus, there is plenty of center. There is absolutely no right. There is only far left, and center. And far left is trying to destroy the center now. Because fucking assholes.

Easy. Take a look at conservative republican views on taxes and budget deficits in the 60s.

I don't actually think democrats have changed that much at all on immigration. I've probably posted stats on increased money spent on southern border security in the Obama era, about 20 times by now.

Genius though I will admit that arguing in favor of wasteful spending billions a "wall" the right manged to make it seem like their issue.

BS lying about the other side is just part of how broken it all is, and how everything is lowered to what Weinstein accurately calls a low resolution moronic level.

That's money. I don't think you get most people's problem with the left as shown with this comment.
14   marcus   2020 Jun 29, 3:20pm

I get that autoritarians tend to see things as binary, black and white.

I tend to agree with Weinstein that nuance is a thing, as is compromise.

Not only that, the "my team against yours, my team is good your team is evil," is actually a symptom of how ridiculously broken our system is, and our inability to deal with or solve problems.

I have to assume you understand this, and must think that a right wing dictatorship is the only answer. That is if I take the "my way or the highway" mentality to where it logically leads. But for now, at least you have the left making fools of themselves.
15   SunnyvaleCA   2020 Jun 29, 3:26pm

The internet and subsequent rise of virtue signaling and doxxing didn't help. Those that are in the center are silenced by both extremes.
16   Shaman   2020 Jun 29, 3:28pm

I’ve seen plenty of center left people pushed to the right and some even to the far right these past few years. I talked to one guy this morning and he’s gone from being leans left mostly non political to hard right!
And I know what you’ll say: white supremacy is surging in America.
The thing is: NONE of these people are white!
They are just tired of the insanity and the “new normal” and infringement of liberty and our rights and kids not being in school and riots excused and allowed by our Dear Leaders! They can’t stand the naked hypocrisy of the Left anymore and are jumping feet first into the arms of the right.

Sen. Boxer: "My proposals have been very simple. (They've been) enforce our border, (...) speed up the asylum process, (...) crack down on illegal smuggling, (...) remove the option that is given to... an illegal alien convicted of a felony has an option of serving time in this country or in their own country, I say return them to their country wherever that country may be to serve the time. So my proposals have been all along these lines and I think most people have regarded them as moderate."

Speaking of "bullshit," what is this in the 3rd panel about "affordable contraception?" The "pill" and condoms are already very affordable. And how does "easy access to health care" prevent pregnancy? IUD? Even those are inexpensive. None of that meme makes any sense. Just as bad as saying anyone who is against late term abortion is just someone trying to control women.

MEDICAID COVERS BIRTH CONTROL.

And the excuse is still "Poor people can't afford birth control"
29   ignoreme   2020 Jun 29, 9:16pm

At this point the left isn’t really arguing for free or cheap birth control because it already is. They are asking to make it available to children so they can drive a wedge between parents and children to better indoctrinate them.

> What Happened to the Political Center?

One of them was elected the President of the United States. Most of the rest are disgusted by the nearly four years of daily lies, fabrications, incompetent and murderous policies of the loser leftist radicals that have been unable to accept this simple fact. Just look at this website and this thread, it's as if someone out there were paying the same few people to regurgitate the ridiculous lies every day to prove how imbecilic the "left" are nowadays. People usually don't want to be seen as members of the moronic class.

The "Left" vs. "Right" paradigm in the US used to be about ripping off the tax-farm-animals to pay welfare bureaucrats vs. ripping off the tax-farm-animals to pay war-merchants. The political Center finally had enough, and decided to walk off the plantation in 2016 and elected one of their own as POTUS; now even some of the historically most reliable captive votes are starting to walk off the plantation. Democrats' murder of blacks and hispanics through mass intubation and removal of policing in minority-heavy cities resulting in mushrooming murder and crime rates in the minority neighborhoods is now showing the original color of Progressivism == Racism, as the most well known Democratic Progressive Woodrow Wilson was the one who segregated the federal employees (federal employees had been integrated half a century earlier by Republicans after the Civil War).

I can't stand the people that want to see the failure of the US. Trump isn't the best. Not a user here would say that. We are dealing with the hand we were dealt. Instead of pissing our pants about it, we focus on the positives. The retardation is getting mind boggling at this point.

Right now it is so fucking obvious to see Trump’s ineptitude as an executive and EXACTLY WHY all his businesses ended in bankruptcy and abject failures.

So how many businesses have you started in your life? Every single businesses eventually dies, just like every government eventually dies, and every human being eventually dies. It is the process and during the life of a business, a government and a natural human being that accomplishments are made. By that yard-stick, Trump's career as a businessman in several different fields was remarkably successful. Sure, his timing in some businesses could have been better, and I was timing better on a smaller scale in than he was on a large scale, but there was no saying I would be able to convince bankers to time my way instead of the mainstream way even if I had a bigger ship to run.

The search for perfection is often the most mortal enemy of what is good enough (or the best option there is realistically). That is why every single leftist revolution quickly turn into self-destruction: nothing and nobody is good enough for the mob of coddled perfectionist hypocrits who have no first-hand experience at building anything.

L@@k see him showering bailouts, deregulating FUCKING EVERYTHING by executive order because his pathetic failures at responding to pandemic is killing off his own base.

Sure, with what we know now, he should have arrested Fraudci and hanged him from a lamp post, then add mass murderers like Cuomo to the next lamp posts for mass killing ethnic minorities first via intubation in places like Queens and then via crime waves all across Democrat-run big metro cities. Yes, more and more ethnic minorities are becoming new election bases for Trump, thanks to those murderous schemes by Demonrats.

What??? There’s no example of that delusion anywhere.

Not a delusion, you are a living example of that. After a few decades of prosperity, a mature society is often over-supplied with coddled idiots with too high expectations and too little skills; that's what "Late Stage Capitalism" is about: foolish young women to be fucked by evil geniuses like Karl Marx, and foolish young men to be fed into the meat grinder called "communist revolution"; haven't you noticed the communist grim reaper flag?

jazz_music says
And where does that leave you with all this Republican propaganda? Lies to seize power and forestall the inevitable crashes that are yet to come. Change your name and disappear? Drinking the fatal kool aid? I’m concerned that the coming fall is going to leave this angry cult with nothing. No money, no great fearless leader, you might join KKK or do something even more drastic.

You seem to have forgotten that the KKK was Democrat . . . just like the federal segregation was also initiated and carried out by the Democrat Progressive Woodrow Wilson. The urban welfare culture started by Democrat LBJ was just another version of Slave Plantation. The Democrat Party is the Slave Plantation Party. Now they are advocating "Reparation" taxing on the offspring of the Union side that fought against slavery (Whites on the Union side far out-numbered Confederate Whites, by 4:1) to compensate the offspring of Slave Owners, which the overwhelming majority of black Americans are also derived from.
