Depends how he structured his contracts. Outright cash or was a percent lifetime royalties for sales. There was a kid I believe that had some part in Lion King (cartoon movie version from the 90's) that took a small amount of cash and then the other percentage was lifetime royalties. Guy is about my age now and I thought I read he pulls in $2M/year because of the way the contract was structured. Parents knew as a child he didn't need the money now, but in the future. I'll have to look it up at some point.
Depp is probably financially doing well, even with the expensive booze habit and letting women take his money. They're not liquid, but I know he has a ton of property in high demand area that he's acquired over the last 2 decades. Most probably have equity, if not a ton of equity.

Generally, coke addicts don't leave unsniffed lines around. Not saying he wasn't an addict....but substance abusers don't leave shit around like that nice and organized. Notice there is no trash around either.

Someone pointed it out, the glass of "whisky" has condensation on it, basically proving that this drink (if it even was whisky) is extremely cold and not the result of being left out by someone passed out.

Heard, 34, took the photo at her LA home in 2013 before the couple had another blazing row about his drug and alcohol use - on the afternoon when he was supposed to be filming a documentary on Rolling Stone Keith Richards.
The court was also shown a picture of Depp passed out beside his bed as the 57-year-old actor was peppered with questions about his extensive drinking and drug use by lawyers acting for The Sun.
