My group of friends began investigating a censored word “belly” in sms. Lead to the majority of us losing sms capability in a matter of about an hour. What’s happening and why are words being censored and accounts losing functionality when they test it?

Conspiracy thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/conspiracy/comments/i1e1r0/tmobile_sms_word_blocking_iphones_not/

We discovered this in our store as well. From what we gathered, its part of a smshishing block from certain reports of a scammer getting people with mass texts about “Help you lose belly fat!” To 10k people at a time. If you send the word too many times in short order then your texting will be disabled for 10 days on that line.

If so, someone needs to learn how to write better regex, or Yara, or whatever they are using on the back end for this kind of stuff.

Thank you for this. Why wouldn’t they let us know? Also, this has serious implications. I’m particular what if you texted something important and included the word “belly” like:

“Help, Bill fell and is bleeding from his belly profusely”That would be blocked. And neither party would know.

Don’t get me wrong, texts shouldn’t be used as an emergency service, but auto blocking them based on content is dangerous and an invasion of privacy (assuming we had any to begin with).

T-Mobile is another libby cult dedicated to the murder of AMERICA!

Another? Is there more than one?

Every word that traverses T-Mobile's SMS network should be replaced with the phrase 'TRUMP! IS GOD! PRAISE HIM!'

I like the way you think

That looks like misleading headline to me. When I see "blocking specific words and suspending accounts" in the current crazy word, I think: PC/cancel police are at it again. In reality, this is just a spam-blocking system that was a little too aggressive.

Better headline: t-mobile's efforts to block dreaded SMS spam also catches people actively trying to get caught.

Ya know....we could abuse this.

What if we started sending tons of spam texts using lots of libtard favorite words? Then the spam triggers would shut them down for us haha
