He was a criminal thug that did not want to go back to penitentiary. He also seemed way out there on some substance(es as confirmed by his autopsy).

As intoxicated as George was he might have killed himself or someone else on his drive home. It is certainly enough of a reason to arrest him. He then resisted arrest, no doubt that did not help his cause. Then when they checked his ID and ran his priors he was never going to qualify for catch and release. Should not have died, but the should nots on George’s side (should not leave home while high, should not drive while intoxicated, should not resist arrest, should not demand not to be put in squad car, should not pull a gun on a pregnant woman, etc...) were too long for him to claim innocence.

I don't think they will be able to convict any of the officers.
