I've really been enjoying Woodford Reserve, $29 at Trader Joe's in Menlo Park:

This is just the plain "Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey" style.

I had a bottle of Monkey Shoulder before that, also $29 I think, same store, but was not as happy with it.

Today I got a Tenjaku Japanese whiskey for $38, same store, and and again disappointed. I suppose I'll just have to keep working my way through all of them. I have just one shot a night (30ml), which should last 25 nights for a 750 ml bottle, but strangely never seems to last that long.

If you like fresh whisky, treat yourself to a 12 year aged sample. Much more smooth and subtle. Worth the extra cost. Costco even sells a store brand 12 year blended that is superior to any fresh whisky.

There is a “gold bar” one that I’ve tried. I don’t know much about those things, but presentation on that thing is top notch.

I like Scotch on the rocks, I don't care for Whiskey. It was the first alcohol I ever drank. When I was 11 my buddy's grandfather was ran a package store from his livingroom after 7pm and on Sundays, it was a dry county. He found two half pints of Fighting Cock Whiskey and we went out back downed them in one gulp. I've got so sick and drunk, the taste of Whiskey throws my gag reflexes in overdrive.

I'm really enjoying Licor de Agave.....700ml for $2.60 in Mexico

I like Bulleit as an all-rounder, mid-grade. They also make a rye. Can be had for a great price some times.

If you finish the bottle before you get to the cash register, do you still have to pay for it if you hide the bottle?

Maybe if you drink it like Nick Offerman (this is mesmerizing):

Remains the smoothest whiskey I’ve ever drank.

Jameson (/ˈdʒɛməsən/) is a blended Irish whiskey produced by the Irish Distillers subsidiary of Pernod Ricard. Originally one of the six main Dublin Whiskeys, Jameson is distilled at the New Midleton Distillery in County Cork. It is by far the best-selling Irish whiskey in the world; in 2019, annual sales passed 8 million cases.[1] It has been sold internationally since the early 19th century, and is available to buy in over 130 countries.[2]

As long as you keep it under $950 you are gtg.

Hard pass on the hard liquor, mixed or straight. It's like choosing the lesser of two evils when it comes to good whiskey versus bad whiskey. It tastes like shit and I think everyone knows it. Hence why there's this game to find the "best" tasting whiskey.

Booze is universally drank to get a buzz at minimum. Hard liquor is the dangerous way to get there. Hence why I avoid it at all cost. I've told good friends to fuck off trying to get me to do a shot. I'll milk my beer or 10 and you can go ahead and get plastered in 45 minutes with 2 glasses of whiskey. I'll wake up the next morning refreshed and not hung over with the quick hit of booze to the body that hard liquor inflicts.

There really is a huge range of whiskey quality though.

I love my shot of Woodford. I just have the one, and prefer it to a beer.

Everyone here out classes me. Just never understood tasting stuff. For me it's a straight shot of ketel one with a beer chaser. Unless I'm at a bar then it's stoli-n-soda. Or beers. Usually both.

I don’t drink anymore ....... I just don’t drink anyless either . The ones mentioned here are all good .Woodford Reserve I like quite a bit as I do Makers46 but one I have been drinking lately is Buffalo Trace ,sure is smooth ,they also bottle Old Rip Van Whinkle and Pappy Van Winkle ,if you can find a Old Rip Van Whinkle 10yr old Bourbon (appx $59) or special reserve ( appx $79) pick it up -you won’t be disappointed .Many of their whiskey’s go for 1500-and up .

I converted to Bourbon years ago over single malt Scotches like Macallan. Top pick is Blanton's, but it's expensive and rare. Weller's Reserve is of the same family as Blanton's, so I've been stocking up on that. It's my drink of choice.

This needs to become a tiered rating. Obviously you can pay more to get diminishing returns. Brackets I see ($/750ml, tax included):
0-15
15-25
25-35
35+ (higher is fo sho retarded).

My picks: Crown Royal, Bulleit, Kirkland. Lots of cheap, good enough whiskeys out there!

Crown Royal... A decent liquor, sure, but I can't stomach it knowing it's associated with that vile Bronfman family.

I like Scotch but not Bourbon, rye or other Whiskeys.

I like Scotch a shot in a rock glass with Ice. I like savoring the melting ice flavored with Scotch, in between replenishing the glass.

Bespoken Spirits

I heard about this company(gotta be the same one) years ago. They use some type of lighting to break down the wood faster. I believe they are from LA. When it comes to tequila, I won't scrimp due to many bad experiences with my wife when we were younger, only drink Don Julio or better. But very interested in technology advancements like this, maybe there's one for tequila coming soon?

I spent some time in Jamaica, so also a fan of rum. And the difference between Captain Morgan and Appleton is decidedly noticeable.
