WASHINGTON (REUTERS) - With the US election approaching, President Donald Trump on Monday (Sept 7) again raised the idea of separating the US and Chinese economies, also known as decoupling, suggesting the United States would not lose money if the world’s two biggest economies no longer did business.

“So when you mention the word decouple, it’s an interesting word,” Trump told a Labor Day news conference at the White House in which he vowed to bring jobs back to America from China.

“We lose billions of dollars and if we didn’t do business with them we wouldn’t lose billions of dollars. It’s called decoupling, so you’ll start thinking about it,” Trump said.

Trump, who long touted friendly ties with Chinese President Xi Jinping as he sought to make good on promises to rebalance a massive trade deficit, has made getting tough on China a key part of his campaign for re-election on Nov. 3.

He has accused his Democratic opponent, Joe Biden, who leads in most opinion polls, of being soft toward Beijing.

“If Biden wins, China wins, because China will own this country,” he said.

Biden for his part has criticised Trump’s Phase 1 trade deal with China, saying it is “unenforceable,” and “full of vague, weak, and recycled commitments from Beijing.”

Trump vowed that in future his administration would prohibit federal contracts with companies that outsource to China and hold Beijing accountable for allowing the coronavirus, which began in China, to spread around the world.

“We will make America into the manufacturing superpower of the world and will end our reliance on China once and for all....

Every movie has mistakes, except The Princess Bride. But Disney made a particularly embarrassing blunder with its recent release of Mulan, which was filmed in China. During editing, the filmmakers failed to notice that a Chinese concentration camp where Uighurs are kept was left in the background of the film.

But seriously, Disney promoting China in a new movie sounds a lot like propaganda.

Not sure if anyone is following, China started building full eco system around co like Huawei within China. This is an interesting trend to alienate US business. Trump appears to be talking measure to safeguard US interests.

Watch the movie The Martian. Its a Chicom propaganda circle jerk.

Hollywood has been putting in pro-Chicom scenes within its movies for at least the last 10 years.

Could you elaborate? What do you mean full ecosystem, and why would it alienate us businesses?

I'm not the one you asked, but I believe he's talking about an "ecosystem" like the "Apple ecosystem", where Apple products work together, and are supposed to do it seamlessly?

This just prevents interoperability and keeps the consumer locked into the set of products that Apple alone sells. This drives up cost at the expense of the consumer.

For example, you have any idea how fucking hard it is to transfer a file to an iPad from a Linux box?

For me to do it with Android, I can do it through wireless SFTP, HTTP, USB cable, 4g. For Apple, I'd rather just buy an Android. Now if I had an Apple computer and an Apple phone, probably pretty easy.

The word "ecosystem" is propaganda, think of it as a "prison". There's nothing "eco" about it.

This is true.

Apple is the most locked down tech prison at the moment. Even getting photos from an iPhone to a Mac laptop is quite hard if you refuse to use iCloud.

Next phone is going to be some kind of Linux phone for me.

In high tech, application specific chips aka asic, is a big key piece. China built massive manufacturing plants during last15 years. Both IP and orders mostly come from us. Lastweek they announced to develop IP locally and support co including who were on restricted list to do business with west. This should make self sufficient to serve all sectors of the economy and detach from west - ideally. Also trying to slow down west to do business with China.

Originally filmed to be the Chinese invading. But Hollywood forced them to redo large portions of it at a big cost so it would be North Koreans invading the US instead. Yeah, North Korea...same North Korea that can't even feed its own soldiers.

First of all, a massive number of paratroopers, as in 'A Bridge Too Far' but over Spokane WA, nearly 300 miles from the Pacific coastline. At least in the Bridge, it was some 60 miles into Holland. Seriously, was that a believable military plan to begin with?

And then, instead of securing facilities, etc, these paratroopers were chasing around Chris Hemsworth and his family in their SUV during the landing.

Yeah, that's the big North Korean invasion. I'm sure the Hemsworth clan in Spokane could have taken out their entire airborne division given their level of idiocy.

If things progress as they have, I think the 'ecosystem' for business will be excluding China.

Interesting that Indian troops have taken Chinese territory in the Ladakh region this past week. Not just waiting for China to salami slice them but instead moving into formerly held (decades) Chinese land.

China is asshoe has sure been India's bitch lately.

It was India's land agreed back in 80 years ago, but all previous commie/mulla regimes got kickbacks and let China get inside gradually with fresh fake maps every year. India's real enemies are inside who are commies and Muslims.
