Left: Hot for 15-20 minutes, even if 20F outside
Right: Cold when you get it, and certainly by the time you open it 3-5 minutes later

Paper coffee cups - untouchable with those stupidass cardboard rings, then cold 5 minutes after
Styrofoam coffee cups - Hot and delicious 20 minutes later, even if you leave it on the hood of your car in 20F.

Remember the Greentard "solutions" are the same as their claims about Vegan Burgers - "Just as good as a real burger"

Act Two: Up to the business owner to have smoking, non-smoking, or split. You don't like it? Don't hang out there or apply for a job there.

We have to restore FREEDOM.

The road to "Show your vaccination proof to enter the concert/airport" began with smoking bans.
2   MisdemeanorRebel   2020 Dec 3, 1:59pm

Act three: The postmodoclasm - the smashing of all public abstact/postmodern art. No toilet in the center of the room or Jackson Pollack will survive for posterity.

"Bonfire of the postmoderns"

I would just as soon have my burgers and fast food wrapped in wax paper, than the fast food cartons they use today.
Also burgers and sandwiches wrapped in paper, all of the ingredients meld together better. A sandwich merely placed in a container that you don't touch again until you eat it over 15 minutes later. The bun is like a stale slab merely setting on your sandwich.

Those paper cartons use up 20 times more paper than wax paper uses.

I can't stand to get food from a restaurant that comes in a Styrofoam dinner plates. Even the clam shell ones with the compartments.
When I'm at work and a sequestered lunch comes up, I tell them I'm going out to eat lunch. I'm not one for plastic utensils or cold ass delivered food.
I don't mind Chinese because it comes in containers, and you take it home and serve it how ever you want.

Go to a mom and pop place and find a place you like. Suggest using paper for takeout, just for you - they'll do it. Give them a tip every time you go in, get to be friendly with the owners. If you become enough of a regular, they'll do whatever you request provided they have the ingredients.

I haven't gone to a large chain place in something like 20 years until recently and on a whim started trying out all the big block stores. Jack in the Box has a bun that is too sweet - the bread is literally sweet. Subway's "sourdough" is just white bread. Burger King doesn't actually make a burger, that's not beef, it's beef and something else, I think soy.

Went back to frequenting mom and pop places. Can't believe I actually got used to those other places in my young adulthood.

Anyone remember the McDLT? That was peak fast food waste. It split the burger into a DOUBLE styrofoam clamshell that supposedly kept the hot and cold ingredients at better temperatures, meaning TWICE as much styrofoam used one time then thrown away.

Something I've noticed, people who are nostalgic for the wasteful old ways tend to also be strongly pro-natalist. If humans voluntarily kept their numbers down, mankind could AFFORD to be somewhat careless and wasteful with resources like the good ol' days. As long as human population keeps growing, EVERYONE will get less goods, space, and quality of life. Earth is a finite resource, and sharing it with others is ultimately a zero-sum game.

Yes I remember those, thinking they were a ridiculous amount of stryrofoam, as I made good use of the lid as a plate for my Super Size fries. Back when they gave a potato sack's worth of french fries.

Styrofoam burns down to nothing. Waxed Paper keeps hot things cold and is a bear to recycle.

And I don't think anybody would dare to argue that fingerburning then coffeefreezing primitive, barbarous waxpaper coffee cups are superior to advanced society and high chemistry styrofoam.

If they were, why bother with styrofoam to begin with? Waxed Paper was known before styrofoam.

As for waste, I bet more people tossed half-drunk coffee and half-eaten burgers because they got cold with waxed paper.

Let freedom ring, if the consumer wants the styrofoam, let him get it. If Greenies want to use paper, let them reuse waxed paper themselves.

Oil from out of the ground: mades a shitload of styrofoam.
Trees chopped down and ground up: makes cardboard.

I’m amazed that people think it’s “greener” to chop down trees to make containers.

+1,000. If we want a 1st World lifestyle, we must have a stable population. Biden's policy of throwing open the borders with incentives for further illegal immigration is insane. Assholes get their thrill of virtual signaling phony compassion, but at the cost of leaving our grandkids to sink into a 3rd world society.

Even if we took in 2M a year, it's a drop in the bucket. The "4th World" is the fastest growing population, grows by much more than that each year.

And of course, we don't take in the poorest of the poor, illiterates from the Congo. We actually take in adventurous, better-than-average educated people from 2nd String countries mostly.

Mexico, Thailand, Dominican Republic - these aren't bottom barrel places. They're actually in the upper middle just outside 2nd world status, and roughly all in the same level of development. Mexico has a higher GDP/capita than Brazil and 4x that of Cambodia and 250% that of India. But Mexico makes up the bulk of US immigrants. It's not being nice, it's getting cheaper labor

Open borders is a different issue- also problematic, but moving people around isn't equivalent to making MORE of them.

2nd world status

You mean third world actually; this is a linguistic anachronism of the cold war era meaning "everything not aligned with the West or the Soviets" and considering these two factions tied for first world. /nitpick

Ah, but opening the border to a flood of refugees from 3rd World breeder nations is exactly the issue. The 1st World has a natural declining birth rate that can hit a 1st World sustainable level. The solution is to tame the overbreeders, and thus prevent resource depletion and even starvation. It is not to act as if moving a person from the 3rd World to the 1st World is just a wash when it comes to resource use.

Mexico isn't third world. It's solidly in "Developing", like Thailand or Serbia. Yep, Mexico is literally only a $20 bill or so away from Serbia GDP Per Capita. It's ~10% poorer than Argentina ($18k vs $20k)

Middle Tier, and the upper end of that.

Should we really feel that we're "Helping the impoverished" when we're really just allowing Serbian or Argentine level of development people into the country to undercut wages?

Haven't been to Serbia, but Argentina really ain't that bad or underdeveloped - ask @Patrick. It's not a place where camel urine is sold in bottles at the corner or shoeless kids try to get you to buy a double A battery for 10 cents.

Third world would be the Burundi or Papua New Guinea

Short term, kinda. If one's departure leaves enough resources for women to carry more babies to term then it perpetuates the situation. When people have access to education and economic opportunity, they almost always have fewer kids within a generation, without any pressure or coercion. (This is a case against drawing direct equivalence between immigration and birthrates, not an argument in favor of immigration btw.

The wax paper does two things, it activates the sandwich when you press all of the ingredients together and roll it up. It's why a burger that has been sitting in a paper wrap for a few hours. Will still have some life to it, the bread won't be stale, and taste as good as a cold sandwich can. Where as a burger that has been siting in a styrofoam container will steam at first, then dry out as it cools down. That's how you end up with hard dry stale buns, and dried meat and sandwich with no juice. Noting you do will ever meld those juices together and activate that sandwich.

The second advantage to paper wrapping and bagging take out, is plastic containers with lids, or saran wrapped items, and food served in clamshell Styrofoam, steams the food, and if anything is fried and crispy it will soft, and soggy by time you get it home. That's why Fried chicken joints serve chicken in buckets with holes, and cartons with holes.
Publix makes decent fried chicken, but then they seal it in that Paper box with the plastic windows that condensate and drip all over the chicken. I try to get it, as soon as they put it out, and open the top. Anytime I do get a deli meal from Publix and they put it in a clamshell, then shrink wrap it, the first thing I do is shove my finger through it as they are handing it to me. I get weird looks, but I tell them, ,I like my chicken fingers crispy not soggy.

Around 1990 I participated in a beach clean-up at Huntington Beach. The 5 most common things I picked up:

Cigarette butts
Taco Bell sauce packs
Styrofoam everything, mostly small bits
hard plastic like straws and lids
Sauce packs from every other fast food combined except Taco Bell

Trees are still one of the most efficient ways to mass produce cellulose as a feedstock, even with all that pesky lignin. Packaging produced from fossil fuel frees sequestered carbon to be released into the atmosphere. Trees remove carbon as they grow, and release it after use if burned, or sequestering it if used for semi-permanent products. making them carbon-neutral at worst. Cutting old growth forests to make ephemerals is a shame, but farmed trees not so much.

I wish I could believe that. I first heard that as a school kid in the 80s. Whether I swim or boat in the South Atlantic, Caribbean, West Pac, or North Atlantic, I see no mounds of plastic trash pilling up.

In fact, beaches are CLEANER today than when i was a little kid growing up near the beach and spending every weekend there.

I remember plastic garbage strewn here and there on beaches and streams from LI to FL - I haven't seen that in decades. Mostly enforcing existing dumping and litter laws solved that. Worst I've seen on a beach in the past year is a couple of plastic bottle caps, and the top plastic lid and straw of some cup that probably blew away from somebody. And a few napkins which are no big deal.

And most of the Pacific Gyre is from China - 80%. And mostly plastic bags. What are you doing to ban that?

Styrofoam didn't disappear because people didn't love it like me.

It disappeared because Greenfascists and heavily subsidized Recycling Corporations pressured companies and governments to do away with it.

Styrofoam burns away into the air in seconds, and it's quite recyclable, contrary to green propaganda. It's just more profitable for heavily subsidized recyclers to recycle paper after their massive government (plus the massive subsidy of free labor from unpaid public sorting mandated by fines) subsidy.

You ask for paper, I'm asking for styrofoam - and I'll eat it in the smoking section.
