Maybe they do work, ie partially effective. Maybe the surge would be worse without the mask wearing.

Or maybe they don’t do shit. We were told that it’ll go away in 2 weeks if we all wear masks. Most people did, yet results are opposite... so yeah so much for those fairy tales from people who refuse to admit they were wrong even when they know it.

AFAIK "science is not settled" at this point

Remember "15 days to reduce the spread" back in what, April?

All that has been spread is the ass cheeks of the public.

There was a CDC paper I saw once about the mystery of virus transmission.

The method of transmission from one person to another is yet unknown.

The effectiveness of masks and whatnot seems to be insignificant, statistically at least.

We’re all probably going to be exposed to the Wuhan flu virus 🦠.

A vaccine and herd immunity will improve the situation hopefully.

If masks didn't work, more essential workers would be dying.

We are raising a generation with fear. From global warming to terrorism and now covid, these kids have been taught to fear and have lived with fearful parents since they were born. It has to effect their physical as well as mental health. I see mothers masking up their kindergarteners. I see people walking alone in fields with masks on. I see people in other countries getting arrested and tortured for not wearing masks.

This is tyranny disguised as public safety.

BRING BACK OUR FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS! (it's not just speech)

the rest of them are useless without them.

Even the authoritarian Democrats using their power to make rules for thee, but not for me don’t believe masks and social distancing works, because they have proven so by their actions in blatant violations of their own rules and recommendations.

I'll have to find a study that I have saved on my work computer. It was a comprehensive reopening plan from all angles put together by a brilliant group of physicians and scientists. In it, they referenced studies from years back, extensive in number, showing that cloth masks only reduce influenza transmission by approximately 9% at best. They argued, for people to return to work, they should be wearing proper filtering masks and being trained on their handling.

What do we have? Virtue signaling with shitting cloth masks. Every worker wearing a piece of shit and ignoring social distancing because "the masks work". When they were wearing masks in Singapore, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, it wasn't just about a mask, but a dedication to proper procedure to minimize transmission. Here in the US, mask wearers think all other good practices can go out the window. They are the worst thing for a stupid population, which is what we have in the US.

Uh, what if the masks make it worse? More proof that it makes it worse if the wuflu gets worse in areas where more people are masking. Duh.

Nope. We have no mandate in GA and we aren't going insane.

It's a faulty test. Period. Covids bullshit, the flu is magically gone, and the CDC is counting all heart attacks as covid. Fucking joke.
14   FuckTheMainstreamMedia   2020 Dec 5, 3:50pm

The spread is now nearly entirely caused by people being in close contact, mostly with family members. Out of 130 or so in my immediate workplace, 8 have now had it that we know of, and every single one got it from a family member.

Masks do minimize risk at least some percentage. But no one wears masks at home.
15   SunnyvaleCA   2020 Dec 5, 9:58pm

If masks work, Japan would be covid-free. Japan's society has been far more conscientious about mask usage — it's a culture thing. Yet, their infections have recently seen a big rise just like here and in most other northern-hemisphere countries.

About the best reason to wear masks is that almost any benefit will outweigh the minor inconvenience.
16   Misc   2020 Dec 5, 10:19pm

The disease spreads like the flu and is in the general world wide population. Eventually your are going to get exposed and probably contract it. Now these magical vaccines are supposed to give us herd immunity better than just eventually everyone just getting it.

It might be beneficial to those in the high risk categories, however, the death statistics on those actually succumbing to the disease are people who generally aren't long for this world anyways. Many people have misgivings about these vaccines and what they are purported to do (lots of bad information from both sides permeates the WEB).

I simply find it odd that the effectiveness percentage for the vaccines is much much higher than the quality of the tests for determining whether or not someone has/had the disease.

Seatbelts proven yourself reduce fatalities. Masks show absolutely no effect. Huge difference there.

There's evidence, and just plain common sense good reasons to believe, that masks reduce (do not prevent, but reduce) transmission of airborne viruses, although we can't really quantifying how much in reality. I'm not going to argue the point, it's just not worth my time. Even if they just reduce the quantity of virus inhaled in some marginal cases it's still totally worth everyone wearing masks. This isn't a tough call.

It’s not, because evidence shows they do nothing. Like a primitive mideval ritual.

Same with global warming, another belief that has no evidence.

huh? I thought mask wearing was to protect others, not yourself? When did the narrative change? Weird. Hard to keep up with what masks don't and don't do.

Here's the problem, there is a large percentage of the population that ideologically believe that masks are 100% effective and therefore, they completely ignore social distancing guidelines, especially out in public. They reach over you to grab fruit at the food store. They stand 2 inches behind you in line. Previous studies from years prior indicate that cloth masks, at best were about 10% effective. They might serve to help reduce transmission, but the politicians and health officials in this country have been so stupid to not stress proper social distancing while wearing a mask. They simply make blanket ignorant statements like "if we all wore a mask, this could be over in a month".

They don't work, the science has been settled a while ago. n/p95 or n/p100 do protect you somewhat, everything else below that is voodoo.

Not only that, they also fail to teach people how to properly wear it and put it on/off without contaminating yourself and others, likely making things worse. Everytime someone puts their worn mask on the table, somewhere a kitten dies... or so.

Masks are all about submission.

The typical person wears a homemade cloth or China made disposable "exam" mask. They put it on when required and then pull it down to their chin, stuff it in their pocket, or hang it from their rear view. If it could stop viruses the viruses would still be there. Where are the hazmat containers to properly dispose of these contaminated masks?

All these face coverings do is stop you from spitting on people and signal your virtue.
