Oracle Corp., a Silicon Valley stalwart, has moved its headquarters to Texas, becoming the latest technology company to leave its home state in the face of California’s higher taxes, steeper cost of living and a broader shift to remote work.

The move to Austin from Redwood City “means that many of our employees can choose their office location as well as continue to work from home part time or all of the time,” Oracle said Friday in a regulatory filing. The company will continue to support its former headquarters and other U.S. offices in Santa Monica, California; Seattle; Denver; Orlando, Florida; and Burlington, Massachusetts, according to the filing.

The software maker said it had 135,000 employees as of the end of May. Like many other companies, the spread of coronavirus has prompted Oracle to offer staffers more flexible arrangements, including the ability to work from home. It’s just one of a number of companies, executives and employees that are ditching California because of concerns over the state’s tax rates and high costs, as well as arduous commutes in some locales.

California's shitbird (and increasing shithole) arrogance biting it in the ass. When you read the solicitation letters from Texas, so full of courtesy and offers of help, and contrast that with the untethered crap from Newsom, it's no wonder.

Cant wait until the leftist morons who keep brainlessly mouthing how big California’s economy is, but have not an ounce of economic understanding, have to shut it as leftist economic policies destroy California.

Texas should worry about becoming California.Old habits die hard.

2020 prop 15 failed with 52n/48y. It might be back in near future to pay 1% property tax from the current near 0%. That might crash prop 13 inflated commercial RE market. May be Oracle is proactive to sell at right time and move.

California will always have people that want to live there for obvious reason. Problem is I think the businesses are waking up. It really is senseless to be in California while the state fleeces you to the tune of 13% income taxes if you make enough. Little surprised Lebron James ever left Miami, FL. Literally has cost him 10's of millions of dollars between Ohio and now CA. I get being competitive, but between his team pay from the heat and the endorsements all likely coming from FL for tax purposes, he was keeping a fuck load more money there.

Unless you're in the service industry and making less than $100k/yr, CA is a rough go as an outsider who has contemplated moving there financially. Factor in batshit crazy policies and issues, it just wasn't worth it for my family for the same pay and really only get better weather and scenery. I can always visit.

Even our family talking about moving out. Policies, taxes and people are the reasons. Too many narcissistic assholes constantly offended on behalf of some group gets very annoying. Militant gays and blacks who have more rights and act like they own the place, politicians who kiss their ass at our expense.

I can put up with taxes if it gets me something, but when taxes get is nothing, and we are constantly insulted by our government in dignity... fuck it.

Yet they will never acknowledge that it is due to their policies or beliefs. It will forever be "someone else's" fault.

Where does Larry Ellison live?

Trick question. He's a billionaire. Answer is "wherever he wants".

Question for gun enthusiasts - is it hard to sight in an optic mounted on top of that M-16 carry handle? All of mine are mounted closer to the barrel and they are still a PITA to get sited in.

California Headline: "Oracle Leaves California Great Socialist Paradise For Fly Over Land".

Texas Headline: "Another Fleeing Big California Company Shitting Californians On Texas".

He's got a huge estate with Japanese style buildings on it on Mountain Home Road in Woodside. I've driven by it many times.

His old crony Marc Benioff lives just up the road from him on perhaps a bigger estate. Seems to be more English style.

Maybe the Israeli space aliens have ceded Ellison teleportation powers so he can materialize wherever he wants.

It appears that he will be moving his command bunker to Lanai (where he owns 98% of the island).

“I’ve received a number of inquiries about whether or not I will be moving to Texas,” Ellison wrote in a memo to Oracle’s employees. “The answer is no. I’ve moved to the State of Hawaii and I’ll be using the power of Zoom to work from the island of Lanai. Mahalo, Larry.”

All this so and so is moving to so and so sounds like a bunch of fluff

Sure the headquarter address might move. What else? Probably not much.

Just the taxes will be moved.

Yes that’s it

The employee base will remain in Redwood City continuing to compete for housing.

That is hilarious. The hiring will be in the lower cost Texas, and the thinning of the herd in layoffs, attrition, etc will be here.

Of the energetic hyper achiever young whippersnappers they want to hire, the misery of long commutes, firey smoky summers, high cost of housing, childcare, taxes etc, would make them less productive here than in Texas. Except perhaps the H1 types for whom those tradeoffs don't matter.

The management of the large companies all know this.

Executives don't need to 'move to Texas' The C-levels either rent or buy a temporary home in the metro Houston, Dallas, or Austin areas and make periodic visits unless they're huge barbecue fans and want to settle there.

Hewlett Packard is on its way to Texas, too.

No sense to bring H1B into CA either.

I won't argue with you about that, you're probably right.

Compared to the concrete canyons of Asia where they came from, the SF Bay Area is the uncongested, unpolluted (except during fires), Wide Open Prairie, at Bargain Prices. And of course many of them covet the "Silicon Valley" cache, with its ethnic enclaves, etc. Many of them from rich families "back home", they've been providing a floor for the insane housing cost for the region (and also Vancouver, etc).

However the thing they covet more than the Silicon Valley address is the Green Card, so they will go with the flow, where the hiring will be. Like, Texas.

Lol, the infertile blue-hairs on Twitter were in a lather because Elon supposedly flashed the "OK white power sign" on SNL.

But lo and behold, AOC is also down with white power:

Or maybe the left is pure lunacy. Could be.

Oh, Obama too, that white supremacist!
