#covid19vaccines People in the US started getting vaccinated against Covid-19 today. Elena was concerned that she was not going to get vaccinated fast enough. I pointed out to her that the Moderna vaccine is going to be approved in the next few days. This will mean that a lot more vaccines will be coming.

What is concerning to many is the rapid rollout of these vaccines. One would normally see several years of careful testing to make sure about side effects. This was not done here. One thoughtful reader made a reference to the Thalidomide disaster of 1962. Pregnant mothers were given a new drug. Later babies were born without arms.

Pharmaceutical companies are not my favorite people. To make a long story short, they rob the public with high prices, etc. On the other hand, with their massive revenues, they are able to fund huge research budgets. I feel confident that some fast and rigorous testing was done. I would not be surprised to hear that supercomputers were involved to do all sorts of rapid simulations. Some side effects will show up. The vaccines will have to be "fine tuned."

I am always talking about the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918-1919. No vaccine was ever developed. 675,000 people died in the US. At that time, the US had a population of 103,200,000 people. Today we have a population of 332,000,000. In rough calculations, one could multiply 675,000 times three. We come up with a potential of over 2 million deaths from coronavirus in the US.

If this is such a serious pandemic, why are these companies not working together? Why is Pfizer already approved and Moderna not? Is it a different vaccine or something? For something sooooooooooooooooo deadly, they should have been information sharing so that we could put Moderna's equipment and resources to work once one of them had it figured out.

I'm sure giving Pfizer a head start had nothing to do with money. Like nothing 🙄 . FDA was just too busy during a pandemic reviewing boner pills to deal with Moderna or some other problem... Remember too that Wuhan Covid-19 was already known in a lab. Early vaccine research was probably aided by this. I won't take the vaccine for at least 5 years, but it's likely fine to take it if you feel the need to. My kids 100% won't be taking it for 5 years even if that means we have to home school. It doesn't kill kids and we don't know long term side effects.

You're comparing apples to deer. Modern medicine and treatment, while still flawed, is substantially different than 100 years ago. For all we know Covid-19 is substantially more deadly than the Spanish Flu was (I'm not saying it is). Think about basic hygiene at that time. How often did people even bath, let alone wash their hands? Flight had just been discovered 10 years prior and now we have A380's and 747's that can move 500 people halfway around the world in 16 hours. The era's are night and day different.

'Elite' Californians Are Making Major Hospital 'Donations' To Jump The Line For COVID Vaccinations

There's a growing movement among wealthy Americans offering five-figure donations to hospitals to cut in line and receive an early dose of the vaccine.

They can have my shot.

I was thinking of doing flops on the floor as soon as they mandatorily poke me but before they plunge the poison inside. Maybe I'll chomp on an alka-seltzer and foam at the mouth to enhance the drama.

That is why they won't administer this to pregnant women and advise anyone trying to concieve to not get the vaccine.

Actually, the government(i.e. us), funds the research, then same get charged for the "medicine" that's developed. Surprised you weren't aware of this, it's made the rounds a lot with these MRNA shots coming out.

It has to be kept on dry ice at below freezing temps, otherwise the MRNA mutates. This is the given reason for why the military is so heavily involved in distribution.
