The embattled Trump administration has just nuked the decades long US recognition of the "One China" policy status quo in what surely constitutes the biggest shot across Beijing's bow after months of anti-China escalation.

Despite the globe's attention focused on the Capitol protest chaos and Democrats readying a charge to impeach under Pelosi, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Saturday announced this absolute bombshell, namely that he's now lifting "self-imposed restrictions" on the relationship between the United States and Taiwan. He announced in an official statement:

Today I am announcing that I am lifting all of these self-imposed restrictions. Executive branch agencies should consider all "contact guidelines" regarding relations with Taiwan previously issued by the Department of State under authorities delegated to the Secretary of State to be null and void.

The US will no longer act in accord with viewing the island in context of a single sovereign China when it comes to relations with Taiwan as has kept the unsteady "peace" for decades.

The Babylon Bee is proud to announce our very first annual "Country of the Year" award is going to the great country of Taiwan!

After months of research and judging all the contestants, we determined that Taiwan is indeed the most country-like country of all the countries. There is no country on earth that is more of a country than Taiwan.

Taiwan is famous for its electoral rights and civil liberties it grants to all its citizens, unlike the neighboring fake country of China, which is a lame, boring place run by a bunch of communists. Boo China. Nobody wants to go there. And their president looks like Winnie the Pooh.

Our researchers also determined that Taiwan has the best food and best-looking people. They also have a lot of earthquakes, but it's no big deal because their skyscrapers can wiggle around in the air without toppling over. Neat!

The Taiwanese people also enjoy the freedom of religion, and none of them have to worry about being placed in concentration camps for believing the wrong things.

Ultimately, though, the deciding factor was Taiwan's very impressive country-ness.

Wow, China. Taiwan is really making you look bad. Maybe you should try not sucking so bad and we'll consider you for a "Most Improved Commie Fake Republic" for next year.

Congratulations to the country of Taiwan!

Hollywood executive Chris Fenton said John Cena’s controversial apology to China after he called Taiwan a country during a promotional interview for “Fast & Furious 9” alienated both his fans in the West and in China, inadvertently providing the star with an opportunity to lead the charge against Chinese Communist Party (CCP) censorship in the U.S. film industry.

Fenton told NTD’s “Focus Talk” that Cena’s apology ended up missing the mark on both fronts, alienating his fans in the United States while failing to satisfy Chinese netizens.

“Boy, did he step into it,” Fenton said of Cena’s video apology, in which the Hollywood star spoke in Mandarin. “I felt badly for him, and I was quite shocked.”

Following the apology, conservative news outlet the Daily Wire ran a sharply-worded op-ed headlined “John Cena Begging China For Forgiveness Proves That Money Beats Morality Every Time.” The platform’s co-founder, Ben Shapiro, said in a Twitter post: “Taiwan is a country. Hong Kong should be free. If you are unwilling to say these things because it might hurt your bottom line, you are a pathetic coward.”

Republican lawmakers took to Twitter to lambaste Cena’s remarks.
