The other night I was thinking about Denny Hastert, maybe I'll write a thread.
1. Replaced Gingrich who actually ADVANCED the conservative base causes (welfare reform, balanced budgets, slowing the growth of government) - and shutdown the gov to do it. 2. Hastert's main accomplishments during his Speakership was Bank Deregulation and the Iraq War 3. Was a Pedophile 4. Was the longest serving Republican speaker. 5. Was removed right at the start of the Financial Crisis.
#2 and 4 are certainly related to #3. Nothing like keeping a guy in you can blackmail at the drop of a hat.
When he became a liability as the Financial Crisis started, and people looked to the still Deregulated Banks as the cause, he was no longer useful and destroyed.
