I'm looking into risking some money in Crypto. I'm putting some money into Decentraland, it's a virtual world, there are 90,000 plots, all are sold. These plots make up a 3D virtual city and it's all programmable, they just partnered up with Unity. The currency of the land is called MANA and the cheapest land is selling for about $1000 per plot, but people are asking for $10/month in rent, or giving free rent because they can't use it. What would a real world purchase price be on land that rents at that rate?

Why not just buy a portion of the Brooklyn Bridge, at least that is “real” estate!

The taxes alone in Decentraland will eat all your profits, and don’t even get me started on the lack of airports near the 3D virtual city. The commute will kill you.

(Sarcasm off)

Do you remember all the people selling virtual gold 15 years ago for video games?

Where are these people now? Where are those video games now?

Find a virtual currency, outside the banking system, that has a transaction time under 2 seconds and is highly divisible with little or no overhead. You find that, and you have a winner. Please alert me to finding such a winner.

Bitcoin isn't a virtual currency, it's a virtual tulip bulb - that's not to say it won't go to insane valuations, but I'm telling you it's not a currency and nothing I've seen so far indicates it will ever be.

A blockchain currency has to be 1) fast 2) divisible 3) easy to use. 1 and 2 are absolutely necessary, 3 can be solved with software.

You can buy Junk Land in just about every state in the Union, even in NYS there is junk land, for less than $10k

How many acres? Is it linked to telephone/internet? Where is the nearest second hand furniture store so I can get an Al Bundy Chair?

Important considerations. Does the land have a sewer connection?

What are the building codes like? Can I bring my single-wide if I build a foundation? When can I move in? Who is running for sheriff?
7   Onvacation   2021 Jan 13, 12:45pm

Does it have a HOA?
8   steverbeaver   2021 Jan 13, 8:23pm

I think you are on to something. You just need to buy a news outlet to shill for it 24/7 for years to get it to rise, then you can sell off and get out rich!
9   ThatGuy   2021 Jan 13, 9:26pm

I knew you guys would have some quality feedback!

So far, there are no taxes, HOAs, telephone, sheriffs or sewers. There is a store to sell you shit like clothing and furniture.

I'm wondering if there is good money in starting a HOA, lol. Or starting a NAR and taking 6% of each transaction!

There is some sort of 'DAO' like a government, maybe it could be hijacked! Its all the rage these days.

Its unclear if I can run a pornography ring out of a 16m x 16m plot... It has mature content but no age verification.

To answer my own question, I read that a favorable annual rent-to-purchase ratio is 15. So $120/yr * 15 = puts fair ownership value at $1800

Maybe not such a bad deal? I'm looking for high-risk investments, if big tech buys in it might work out... if it doesn't I'm left holding a bag
10   just_passing_through   2021 Jan 13, 9:28pm

This is a joke right?
11   just_passing_through   2021 Jan 13, 9:31pm

If you're looking for a risky investment try overstock's tZERO platform.

Yeah, it involves crypto but basically it lets you lease anything. If you're Mick Jagger you can lease (or give part ownership) your lips out. In fractions.

So real world shit not virtual.

It's not there yet but that's their long term plan.

I agree for the most part, my stock investment plan is mostly based around water, something like CGW

On that size plot you could build the best little ho house in Decentraland and make beaucoup MANA!

It's funny that it's hard to tell.

Wasn't there some crypto that gave you a unique dog picture or some such?
17   ThatGuy   2021 Jan 13, 9:49pm

The lines between complete bullshit and legitimacy are very blurred in cryptocurrency right now.

Dogecoin is huge. Worth over 1 BILLION dollars. *edit I said trillion, just a billion
Somebody copied the litecoin source code, spliced in some code from other projects, put a picture of their dog on the thing and that is estimated to be worth over a TRILLION dollars.

My favorite so far was 'Coinye West', I think it came from a South Park episode. Got sued out of existence I think.

Gold/Bonds are def not getting you anywhere.

We have our FIRST national “digital asset bank” in the U.S. now!
Crypto is not going anywhere. If anything, its getting bigger. The crypto market cap is over 1Trillion USD now.

I heard of the the decentraland coin but I like to stick to the top 15 coins based on market cap. (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Cardano, Link, Litecoin...)

I take the opposite approach, mostly because I don't have any money.
I own an absolute fuck-ton of MOON because its already worth the smallest fraction of BTC
If MOON can gain on its value of 0.00000001 BTC, 100% instant return. As it is, I ride the price of BTC, its worth more than I paid assuming I can sell it.
These are projects people can choose to work on, market, and increase. In time I may choose to do so.

MANA is a middle play for me, its on Coinbase, so it has liquidity. Its value is tied to something other than 'it can be traded for the other top 15 coins'.
Corporations have been trying for decades to get VR in your face, this could get trendy fast, if certain industries back it. Partnering with Unity is a big deal, there are lots of people who want to make video games and don't have a platform to share - Not everyone can get a shot on the Playstation ...

Including or not including the lost "coins"?

Yes.
So in reality supply is less then quoted so not sure how much that "adds" to the real price of BTC.
1 point to keep in mind there were 130 whale wallets created the last 10dys 1000+btc avg quote $35000 and those whales
created the wallets to take crypto off the exchanges meaning by past experience they are stashing going after big returns over a
intermediate to longer time frames. Like I have mentioned in my other post the BTC Bull run is still in play ATHs on the way.
Observe and be amazed $BTC $50K+ on the way....
23   Cash   2021 Jan 14, 6:59am

Thats 4.5+ Billion BTW like I say avg. cost per to the whales $35k

Are you saying that market cap is coins X price, but the actual value per coin is higher because some of the coins have been lost?
25   Bitcoin   2021 Jan 14, 7:04am

The haters were so excited a few days ago when digital gold dipped a little bit. I was excited too because I bought more crypto at a discount. The price for the precious digital gold coins (Bitcoin) is already back at 39k.
Dont miss out on the next dip! Buy the dip in a bull market.

If you don't own BTC and are wanting to "spec" on some crypto ETH, DOT, LINK, ADA, ALGO, XLM and SNX
They all are likely to stomp higher min 100% and some more like 10x with some the possibility of 100x.
28   Cash   2021 Jan 14, 7:26am

Anybody else have their 10x bagger plays... By all means do share ... lmaol Fuck, remember my suggestion to buy $BTC @13800+/-
You should remember it was only 2 months ago, while all the mutts were shitting in the woods crypto was flying higher.
The funny thing is its not even begun and all the insufferable mutts will be spewing their shit opinions the whole time crypto keeps blasting
off just like they have for the last 9 years ;) So funny
29   Cash   2021 Jan 14, 7:34am

None of the mutts have any real suggestions that even come close to or even has a chance at better profit potential....
Instead they spew how rich they are w/o a shred of proof.... I just let the crypto price speak for itself as proof positive....
Watch and be amazed how fast $BTC hits and exceeds $50K

Here’s a piece of real land in the real world. You can go there in real life and live there should you wish. It’s selling for $40k and it’s in Alaska about 30 minutes by float plane from a major airport in Anchorage. It’s really remote despite that without any roads. Here’s a picture.

32   Hircus   2021 Jan 14, 9:43am

I feel like most investments I've seen that are aggressive, but not crazy risky, tend to give ~6-10% CAGR. If it's real estate, you need to make sure you combine appreciation with rental cash flow when calculating CAGR (and possibly also tax savings). With low priced RE, such as rural/ghetto/undesirable homes, usually most of your money comes from cash flow from rents, and very little from appreciation. Conversely, with high priced RE in major job growth areas, it's not uncommon for a house to be worth 1-2 million, but only rent for $48k / yr. After rental expenses, that's probably like 2-4% CAGR from rents, but you'll likely see appreciation bump you up quite a bit towards that 6-10% range.

In fact, with many high priced homes, you can't charge enough rent to cover the mortgage payment + expenses - you come out of pocket somewhat, but many people do it with the hope appreciation will save them.

If decentraland plots are renting at 120/yr, thats 12% + potential appreciation, which is good, although I question how many can rent it at that rate if some are allowing free tenancy. But, I'd imagine the risk is very high. And if like you said, many are renting for free, it sounds like the majority are just holding it as a moonshot on appreciation.

It's called a business. Mine pays me 10X month after month from my original investment. Investments don't have to be crypto at all to easily outperform it. Just a thought. I prefer control over dumb luck. It's done me better than crypto, that's for sure. Though I won't touch the stuff, so not a fair comparison I guess.
