President Trump cut foreign aid to China in half in just one year, according to an Office of Management and Budget report obtained exclusively by The Spectator.

The report, which provides a full accounting of US spending on China and is the first of its kind, revealed several key trends that are sure to thrill China hawks. Direct aid to China fell from $62 million in Fiscal Year 2019 to $30 million in Fiscal Year 2020, a decrease of 52 percent. Spending on strategic competition with China jumped from $42.4 billion to $47.5 billion, a 12 percent increase. The US also imposed $60 billion worth of duties on imported Chinese goods.

Multiple China support programs saw major reductions in spending or were ceased entirely under the Trump administration. For example, in 2019, the Export-Import Bank provided $11 million in financing guarantees for Chinese transactions. In 2020, it provided none. The US Trade and Development Agency ended its operations in China, cutting $2 million worth of investments in Chinese infrastructure projects. The US also ended its Peace Corps program in China for good following the pandemic.

At the same time, the US increased spending on programs it deemed to be effective in curbing China’s global ascendency. In 2020, Congress appropriated $300 million for the brand new Countering Chinese Influence Fund, which the OMB says is used for ‘cybersecurity, government transparency, foreign military financing, efforts to counter Chinese propaganda, and many other strategically important activities.’

Aid? Why the fuck are we even sending aid to the 2nd largest economy poised to overtake us and become the 1st?

The problem with this article is that is says the money is “aid.” The USA never gives “aid.” Our government gives bribe money to get policies favorable to our corporations and trade interests as well as other political interests. The “foreign aid” we give always has strings attached. Just like Biden proved when he demanded the Ukrainians fire their AG so his son’s paycheck would remain steady.

For years, the biggest aid recipients were Egypt, followed by Israel. Usually $6 Billion to Egypt and $3-$4 Bn to Israel. This, of course, was to fuel our Military-industrial complex with purchases and maintain the illusion of a balance of power in the Middle East. I'm totally ok with propping up our manufacturing base with Government aid money. Aid keeps our R&D funded, which is key to global military supremacy. You also avoid Euros complaining "You're not competing fairly!! You give aid to business!" Yeah, we just do it on the sly.

Trump was brilliant to stand up a Space Force. The next physical battles will be fought in Space and from Space (this includes the Moon.) We must continue our technical supremacy - especially in Space. If you're wondering why, just look at the Chinese accomplishments and plans in Space: moon landings, and plans for a space station (with no other country involved.) It's clear they are successful, and challenging our dominance.

"Aid" to foreign nations is one of the biggest plundering operations the government has going. You think any material amount of that money makes its way into any actual aid? It's going into the pockets of all the middlemen, who are conveniently relatives or cronies of the politicians involved in the so-called "aid" programs.

Our government gives bribe money to get policies favorable to our corporations

This ^^^

There is no US aid to any nation. It's money to oligarchs of the nation to buy influence in the nation.

For example "aid" from China would be in the from of a bunch of money, sent to say... a failing social media company like Twitter, to influence an election or to censor people to get a desired outcome.

That's what "aid" is. The whole world would be a damned sight better off if there was no foreign aid to anybody and no foreign aid from anybody.

Do you think a corporation is ideologically driven, or do you think they are monetarily driven? You want to know why there's so much censorship that people are getting so fed up they quit the platform, you want to know why our failing "news" media just outright fucking lies to us - this is all due to some form or aid, from either our government or a foreign government.

I have a funny feeling that China's "aid" to the US is much greater than what we sent to them.
