I've been working remote for a year now and have been juggling 2-3 jobs at a time, since I've had so much extra time on my hands.

Yesterday I started another position with a very prominent employer that you would all know. I was going through the required corporate training and they had shit training on "conscious bias training" and how you must address the LGBTQ alphabet people according to their pronouns. If you didn't, it was considered harassment. They even banned political talk/jokes as they could become offensive to others.

If that wasn't enough, a corporate email came out saying they were going to start pulling people back into the office, and that COVID vaccinations were required beginning in April.

Last but not least, they had a clause in their training, that more or less denied you the ability to work for anyone else other than them. Complete and utter bullshit. Unless there is a conflict of interest, this isn't legal.

I put in my notice at the end of the day. Shortest employment term ever. Fuck that.

I'd be pissed about the loss of time. After the interview and being notified they'd hire you, I'm surprised they didn't send paperwork with this type of info. Although I never will or have worked a corporate job, so maybe that's first day on the job stuff. Sounds like it would have been hell to stay.

Wouldn't do corporate even if the pay was better. Just because of shit like this and I've learned it's much better mentally to not have a boss or manager of any type. Did a small office job where I was theoretically the boss of the whole place, but there was still the owner/boss. I was expected to respond 24/7 for almost 15 years. The guy had ADD or something and could never focus. I had to put out his fires (there were many) and manage 8-10 other people, the accounting, the marketing, etc.

I think it's likely that at some point I will have to get the vaccine in order to do something that I want to do.

Yeah, they didn't indicate any of this prior. To be fair, you usually don't know the corporate policies until you go through orientation. Working from home though, I pretty much avoid all the corporate BS and only work a few hours a day. Either way, they were in a pinch for my skillset, and I pretty much said fuck off after how woke they were.

Yeah, part of the reason I started a small business a couple years ago. I'm on my way out the corporate door, because I'm ultimately tired of reporting to other people. What do you do for work?

I'm flying drones right now for real estate. Very much part time and pick and choose what I want to do. 90% of the time I just get to show up and do my thing. Don't interact with anyone and just send the files and the agents have their own in house editing. Commercial and/or residential. I'm researching AG land surveying and crop surveying though as that would be closer to home and would be an easy niche to get into and get to fly a kids toy for a job for ~$50/hr.

Made a decision 3 years ago to separate from my old work. Wife was making bank and so was I, but I was in an industry that was too volatile with kids #realestate. I managed an office and basically did everything. Accounting (not taxes), marketing, training, etc. I was basically a well paid bitch to the owner who couldn't get his head out of his ass. It's why I came to patnet. I think it was '07 to lurk, but didn't join and comment until later. I was the guy that witnessed the BS daily that Realtors do and was in charge of herding the cats. I finally just let my license lapse last September.

Holding it and having MLS access was close to $2k/yr. Since I don't sell, I'm like fuck it, who cares. Patrick and his book mentions a lot of things I saw, but there's a lot people don't realize. It's worse. I never did anything illegal personally, but witnessed it. I felt dirty and was sick of being on call 24/7 by a lunatic owner that just reaped the benefits of my work.

That clause is not enforceable. It is like the contracts that deny the "Merchantability for a Particular Purpose." Those clauses are added to intimidate the employee or buyer, but the company will not even bother taking legal action if the employee/buyer ignores them. (Not legal advice, just what I learned from a business law course).

I hope you are able to now work for a competitor and do that woke company some dollars and cents damage.

That sounds badass. Sounds like a fun hobby you get paid for.

I've actually been considering quitting IT 100% and becoming a marine mechanic. Whenever I need work done to my boat - the shit is stupid expensive, the shops are backed up for months, mechanics work outside on the water and seem to have it pretty good. Salary wise it's low, but if you were solo, I'd imagine a pretty easy 200-300k/yr especially if you specialize in something like Yamaha outboards/jetboats.

I was at Food Town today, and they had some radio station playing over the intercom. A commercial came on and the announcer started getting into Gender pronouns.

I yelled as loud as I could... "Turn that SHIT OFF!"

and heard about 5 other voices chime in with stuff like. "Yes!" and "Amen" and "That's disgusting!"

About two minutes later, everyone was shopping in silence.

What work did you do if I may ask?

You know what I worked on last? I worked on a the absolute worst fucking standard for communicating to a battery to a car to charge it. It was so fucked up, and I complained for so long about what a bunch of assholes created this absolutely terrible standard (worst spec I've implemented in 30 years) that my asshole stupid company would do NOTHING about, I just gave up. The standard was exclusively designed to make a monopoly for a few companies, and my fucking company just rolled over to it, and for years I pointed this out, until I was just like "you're stupid pussies, I quit".

I can be a brilliant engineer, but one thing I won't work on, is a design intentionally made to block development. That's DIN and 15118-2 and I'm disgusted by these fucking corporations with pussies allowing such standards being made. I have better things to do, like jerking off, cooking food, and vacuuming rugs.

Also, I trained my alcholic's neighbor's dog on my time off. What a fucking monster, but I did dog fostering for a decade. I can train a dog. He's not a monster now, but I'm certain he thinks I'm a monster. Good dog now! That was worth quitting my job over, an unhappy dog is a dog the owners hate. Maybe I should do some BS television show like that fraud Cesar Millan. He has no clue what he's doing - at least in some cases. That dummy didn't recognize separation anxiety in one example. He's another false profit, but then again, I'm certain I am as well.

Isn't charging a car battery done essentially by a circuit that measure the load and sends the appropriate charge? Microprocessors yes, but I never thought a standard protocol would be needed or even patentable. Reminds me of the guy who replaces a bathroom mirror with a flat screen monitor and embedded cameras.

I am sure they is more to what your talking about than what I know, however.

Possibly. I assume about RE photography? My email account linked is a burner so if @Patrick shares it with just you I'd be okay with that.

I did camera work, but I was never the best but saved the brokerage a shit ton of money over the years. Drones just started for fun after I left. I honestly don't generate a ton with it though, I could maybe get it up to six figures, but I can't/don't want to work that much. Nor do I have to. I'm in a very unique position of picking and choosing what I want to do at this stage in life.

Yes. Are you currently working for www.dronebase.com? If you were interested in adding a service (yes, I see that you did some photography also), HDR is extremely popular. There is good HDR and there is bad HDR (NO FLASH) For example...

Decent HDR

Bad HDR

One of the best things about HDR is there are overseas photo editors that will create great photos from a set of bracketed images for about 75 per photo AND deliver them back to you within 24 hours.

Anyway, the reason I want to talk to you other than telling you about adding HDR photography to your offerings, I hope to reach what I call maintenance mode for my real estate photographer website and I will, at that time, be looking for someone to take over maintenance. If you are in a place in your life where you want to tone down your stress levels, careerwise...

Just a thought.

Not that you will ever read this probably, but let me explain it anyhow.

When you're charging a battery, it's a current controlled event. Whatever voltage is on the battery == the voltage of the charge and you're moving electrons into the battery. Do this too fast, and BOOM.

However, the standard I worked with (DIN/15118) was written using EXI communication. The is binary XML. It is not actually documented. The bits of documentation I did get were wrong. I reverse engineered it based on a working program called exificient. Most cars do not follow the specification properly, which means I could send PERFECTLY legal exi to the car, and the car wouldn't understand it.

It's even worse than that, in their INCREDIBLE stupidity, the fucks that made this communication standard provided no way for the car (or the charging station) to indicate an error. So, if a vehicle isn't happy with something, you know how it reacts? It terminates the charging session. No error, no notice, nothing. You have to GUESS why the car ended the communication session.

The entire industry accepted this standard, because they don't care. They are perfectly happy with a terrible standard that cost $100's of thousands of dollars to make and test.

For doing charging without a credit card, they hired a complete incompetent set of fucking fools to make a certificate system. These assholes didn't only do it ENTIRELY WRONG, their solution created a monopoly of a single company to make the certificate, and didn't indicate it anywhere in the spec.

Seriously, if I was a billionaire stakeholder in one of these companies making cars, I would have these "architects" tortured, then murdered. The whole thing is just a scam.
