Biden's Transportation Secretary said the idea of taxing miles driven 'shows a lot of promise' Furious voters have slammed the Biden administration for considering taxing motorists by the mile Critics chimed in that that the tax plan from 'Pothole Pete' would considerably hurt people who own electric vehicles or who live in rural areas Federal gasoline taxes have failed to keep up with the demand for infrastructure projects Mileage tax could get at drivers of electric vehicles that are proliferating Joe Biden rolls out his infrastructure plan on Wednesday in Pittsburgh
Taxing mileage was bound to happen. Less gasoline is being used as CAFE standards increase and electric cars proliferate. Even without Pothole Pete, we were bound to see more roads become toll roads. I would rather see a mileage tax to pay for roads rather than a tax on businesses. That mileage tax should be strictly for road construction and maintenance, however. And bike trails.
Bring it on: manual trans cars function just fine with transmission sensor disconnected. I'm totally OK with paying mileage for 500 miles I drive every year (wink-wink).
Lack of dense housing force most of them to commute for long distances by mostly middle or poor folks. At lease in CA, because of selective socialism with Prop 13, more zones are created both by businesses and NIMBY crowed as part of anti building forces to bump up existing prices. Now per mile tax is double taxation.
