Two years ago, China had almost no diplomatic presence on western social media. Now around 200 diplomats growl and troll their way around these platforms — the vanguard of a concerted push by party-controlled organizations, working in concert with a vast and shifting array of bogus accounts, to sow disinformation and discord. ...

In June last year, Twitter shut down 170,000 accounts linked to the Chinese government, citing ‘a range of manipulative and coordinated activities’. YouTube banned almost 2,600 Chinese channels in the second quarter of 2020 alone, as part of what YouTube calls ‘our ongoing investigation into coordinated influence operations linked to China’. ...

Last summer, Chinese diplomats reveled in American protests over policing and race, embracing the Black Lives Matter movement with relish and accusing the US government of hypocrisy and double standards on human rights. ...

China’s state-controlled news outlets appear to be among the highest ranked accounts on Twitter and Facebook. CGTN has 13.6 million Twitter followers and 116 million on Facebook. Global Times has 1.8 million on Twitter and 62 million on Facebook. Xinhua, a state news agency, has 12.4 million on Twitter and 89 million on Facebook. Obscure diplomats have quickly built followings to rival Hollywood celebrities.

Can there really be such an audience for stultifying propaganda? Perhaps, but there are many dark social media arts, which China has quickly learned. The figures are almost certainly false, inflated by automated programs (bots) that generate fake followers and fake likes. The idea is to give the pages more credibility and reach, and thereby pull in legitimate users. Bogus or hijacked accounts are used as ‘amplifiers’ to push posts and tweets and get them trending. ...

And China has a wider policy goal — framing hate crime as a consequence of the US government’s more assertive recent stance against Beijing. ‘Experts say [hate crime] results from US politicians’ smearing of China as culprit of COVID-19. Worsening bilateral ties play part in discrimination surge,’ Global Times said in a recent tweet, without naming the ‘experts’.

The Communist party also has formidable weapons in the form of TikTok and WeChat. ...

The Trump administration sought to ban both TikTok and WeChat on national security grounds. Both have fought back in the courts, and President Biden has paused the action against them while his staff becomes ‘familiar with the issues in this case’.

China owns Biden.

It’s easy. Our own politicians are pushing this madness, China is just adding fuel to our own invented fire. It’s our politicians fault.

You mean we are trying to find "Chinese facial features" in white politicians?
It may run counter to some commenters here who think "whites are holier than thou".

When US consumers don't care about getting low prices on consumer goods like iPhones.

Which means never.

That is why I question the other thread about manufacturing in US.
The "tariffs" should be set by Govt like Trump did if we want manufacturing here.
I really don't think anything can be done at private or personal level.

I agree. Trump was doing the right thing for American citizens.

But this was threatening the short-term profits of the elite, so they removed Trump with excessive fear mongering about a mostly harmless virus, and with outright election fraud and then censorship of all discussion of it on oligarch-owned media.

Thing is, even the oligarchs would be better off in the long run by banning Chinese imports and making America a manufacturing powerhouse once again. They just seem too driven by short-term profits to see that.

China has been studying how to undermine and destroy us from within ever since Nixon opened thing up. Unfortunately, we are a society riddled by corrupt industrialists and politicians who have made it easy for them.

@patrick
This is exactly what bothers or rather worries me.
You see the body language of politicians,business people or administrators.. They never seem like normal, I see them as somebody holding a gun to their temple to blur out propaganda.
I feel like there is very notorious blackmailing/threatening "elite group" at the very top which is holding the rest hostage.
Hitler made Porsche/BMW and other CEOs operate this way.

Now to support my theory, Look at what happened to "Alibaba" CEO when he slightly diverged.

The Politicians and Businesspeople are easily and readily owned by China. Chinese Money (actually Middle Class spending sent overseas via Walmart and Amazon) comes back to the States for specific purposes, mostly to control the culture and both distract/demoralize the inhabitants.

When was the last time you saw a negative story on China?

It just came out that Vox, WaPo, etc. "Journalists" got all expensive paid 5-star trips to China.

@Ceffer
China will be destroyed way before USA. I have visited that country and know that how much pressure govt is enduring from people to hold it together ... probably much more than than 3 gorges dam feel from water.
Now whether CCP will collapse first or 3 gorges remains to be seen.

I think it starts with greed and ends with blackmail.
It is just initial investment needed from china.

I am waiting for at least one journalist/politicians to come out and say... Yes excuse me Americans, I got sucked into pedophilia but China is pushing it.
Hopefully truth to come out one day.

"iPhones" and "low prices" don't belong in the same sentence. The shit isn't cheap.
