Days ahead of his summit with President Biden in Geneva, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the United States was being hypocritical in its criticism of the way his country handles internal dissent.

During an interview with NBC News, Putin said Russia was no worse than the United States in this regard, and used the government's handling of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot as an example.

He even pointed to the arrests of hundreds of suspects in the U.S. Capitol riot and the death of one rioter as proof that the U.S. also targets its citizens for their political opinions, just as Russia is accused of stifling dissent. ...

"We have a saying: 'Don't be mad at the mirror if you are ugly,'" he said. "It has nothing to do with you personally. But if somebody blames us for something, what I say is, why don't you look at yourselves? You will see yourselves in the mirror, not us."

Putin showed flashes of defiance when he was asked whether it was a "coincidence" that several other political rivals had been assassinated in recent years.

"We don't have this kind of habit, of assassinating anybody," Putin said when he was asked whether he ordered Navalny killed. (NBC News)

He then countered by asking whether the U.S. was guilty of assassinating Ashli Babbitt during the Capitol riot.

“Secondly, I want to ask you: Did you order the assassination of the woman who walked into the Congress and who was shot and killed by a policeman?” Putin said. “Do you know that 450 individuals were arrested after entering Congress? And they didn’t go there to steal a laptop. They came with political demands. 450 people have been detained. They’re facing jail time, from 15 to 20 years. And they came to Congress with political demands. Isn’t that persecution for political opinions?”

Why yes, yes it is persecution for political opinions when the people come to DC with political demands and get arrested for it.

We have political persecution in the US now.

You have to admit he's right on this one.

The US is absolutely persecuting conservatives for their political opinions.

I liked him better when he was using polonium to get rid of naysayers. That was just a too cool evil villain's calling card. He let you know what you were dealing with back then.

Putin likely did not do that.

It's more likely either the US or Mi6 did in order to blame Putin for it. There has been a concerted effort to restart the Cold War ever since the West lost control of Russia - Yeltsin was their man, the US directly intervened in that elections to ensure his victory. The communists actually won one election, but that wasn't going to be tolerated.

Think about it - what would be the purpose of assassinating a spy in such an obvious way? It's the same with the Skripal's.

There was no fancy assassination of Seth Rich - he was just killed, under extremely unusual circumstances, in which it was called a botched robbery which is hard to believe. That made it quite clear what happens to whistleblowers within the parties.

I'm frankly surprised Trump wasn't assassinated, but if he was, it could have led to revolution. Look at the amount of propaganda we've been subjected to, all the unusual BS that has happened, a year lock down, and then censoring the Internet - to get people to SORT of believe Biden was elected.

Putin is no dummy, and he can grow on you if you watch him in press conferences and speeches.

This one is easy: intimidation. "Look, we can kill anyone on your territory, even somebody you extended your protection to - a traitor to Mother Russia. And there is nothing you can do to meaningfully retaliate*. And if we can kill a former spy, protected by your alphabet agencies, we pretty much can do it to anyone, mkay? Keep this in mind and have a good rest of your day".

*) Did UK retaliate in any way? Nope.

@Eric Holder,

You are being too logical for our Putin fanboys. They behave exactly like Bidet fans, where FACTS! DON'T! MATTER!

Putin simply points out hypocrisy of our own shitty government. Just like China did when Biden tried to press them on slavery.

The sad part is that’s true what they said. America does not act like free nation, globohomo enterprise that hates normal people.
10   Patrick   2021 Jun 20, 2:53pm

I think most people actually mean well, they just don't see how they are being used by the global corporate interests who are in charge of our government and most others.

And they feel this tribal division into "us and them" instead of unity as Americans. An invasion by China might give us more unity, but the Chinese could well win such a war if our military turns completely gay and tranny.

You don’t have to like Putin to appreciate when he’s got a fucking point.
Personally I’m not sure that he’s any worse than the assholes who run our country.

Putin is right.

The US is openly persecuting political dissidents.

The FBI is the Stasi now, a force to suppress democracy and human rights.

Agreed - nothing has been communicated wrt Ashli's killer or circumstances, not different from China or Russia ordering hit men on their opponents, just on a smaller scale for now. This is beyond fucked up.

It was used as an excuse to place further sanctions on Russia. The UK doesn't have much economic power that Russia cares about, and it's the US that is most interested in demonizing Russia.

The real conflict is that the United States is competing against Russia to provide energy resources to Europe. That's one of the main reasons the US is bombing Syria. I've explained this multiple times before, but the short of it, is that the plan appears blow up Syria, and put in a pipeline through Syria to Turkey. Syria is just an energy source to provide to Europe really.

The US has been blocking the Nordstream II, and despite Biden's assurance that it will be allowed to go through, I don't think that it will. Some false flag or whatever will show up.

The US overthrew Ukraine to also block the Nordstream II - when this happened, the Russians just re-routed it through the black sea. Remember when Turkey shot down the Sukhoi SU-24 back in 2015? Russians stopped vacationing in Turkey, and Turkey's economy shrunk 20% over the following year. Putin was just demanding an apology, when Erdogan finally gave him one, Erdogan faced a coup he defeated and blamed a cleric that is living in Virginia. The Turkstream was put online in 2017. Erdogan isn't very friendly with the US anymore and believes the US was involved in the coup to remove him.

There are lots of pipelines going through Ukraine from Russia.

https://mapofeurope.com/european-gas-pipeline-map-and-the-ukraine/

With the US controlling it, they can effectively hold the EU hostage, and blame RUSSIA for cutting off the pipelines. All this stupidity is about controlling energy resources and keeping Russia from being able to sell their energy resources.

I no longer bother to make moral judgements or try to appeal to people's morality. This is just what is going on, and right and wrong of it, just doesn't factor in. If you protest that the US (or the UK) wouldn't murder a spy by poisoning him with plutonium - I'd point out that they murdered Seth Rich, Jeffrey Epstein, probably James Traficant, John F. Kennedy, everybody in the Branch Davidian Compound, and Randy Weaver's wife. They would have absolute no compunction about framing Putin by murdering a spy. They need to provide excuses about why they are doing what they are doing but it's just propaganda.

When I run into a Russian online and can get them to talk about their political views, my impression is that they won't say they are exactly happy with Putin, but at the same time, they think he's the best leader for their current circumstances. "The leader Russia needs".

That's what I considered Trump. By FAR not perfect, but not totally useless.

Biden isn't doing a damned thing for this nation, in fact, he's hurting it. His "infrastructure" bill contains a lot of bullshit that isn't infrastructure for example - bullshit programs, "education" other garbage. What did we get under Obama? Common core math, transgendered bathrooms, gay marriage, his wife dictating what schools should serve for lunch, Criticial Race Theory - and he bombed 5 more nations. I don't see anything he did that helped this nation.

Bush was the same, just just started a new pointless war, and his buddies were a bunch of grifters off from that war.

I honestly don't know.

The US seems to constantly needle and provoke Russia, and creates some pretty outrageous reasons as to why they are doing it. We're fed a pretty constant stream of bullshit about Russia, and what our government does, so ultimately, we're entirely uniformed. It all comes down to some pretty specific laws, and just keeps lawyers busy to be in conformance.

My best guess is that it creates an artificial monopoly on who is allowed to do business with Russia, by making a heavy burden on people outside the club, and complete freedom from prosecution even if they violate the law if they are inside the club.

The only real sanctions were placed by RUSSIAN! AGENT! TRUMP! - related to NordStream, as Russia aka Nigeria with snow earns money mostly by selling oil and gas. Of course, as soon as tough on Russia Bidet came to power, the sanctions were removed.

I don't think Trump had political goals in mind, he probably just wanted to help US shale gas producers.

If anyone had any doubts about disconnect of reality from media, this is an excellent example.
