My SIL was a weather girl for an affiliate I won’t disclose for 3-4 years. She had the legit credentials as a double major in meteorology and broadcasting. The pay blows though.
Can’t remember what market in OH, but it was like $24k a year. She worked in other markets. You don’t make shit until you get to a city with 1M+ population. Her cohost for their morning show won a fucking Emmy and was maybe paid $50k.
I think the Mexicans have it right though. Just have a hottie read of the prompter. Hire some minion to write what she needs to read. Still don’t understand why my SIL got out of the business after all that college and work. She had the looks to get in a major market.

In the US in 10 years there will only be land whale blubber and trannies reading the daily weather news. Well doesn't change anything for us we don't watch TV. Maybe Mexican news channels once in a while when the weather is on.

Thats why I'm so confused my SIL got out of it. If she gave it time she would have probably been in a city like Chicago, Houston, Phoenix, etc. pulling in $150k/yr minimum as a weekend meteorologist. With potential to get above $500k easy as a lead in a major market affiliate.
People that watch TV, generally want to see attractive people on TV. She would have been in the running for major cities, but she's been out of the game too long at this point. So that career path is over given she's close to 30 now.

Not a chance: there is no turnover anymore. People used to be pushed out of these jobs because they were getting older, fatter and uglier, but now they stay forever. That cute meteorologist chick you saw on your local station 20 years ago is still there. And she will be there as fat grandma 20 years from now.

Agreed, in major markets because that's where the big money is. You become a brand. I see it in Chicagoland. We've had the same weather broadcasters for decades on the 4 (well 5 with WGN) major affiliates and they sometimes bounce around. I guess Jerry Taft died, but he was lead weatherman for 3 decades on ABC locally.
My Dad went to school with the Skilling brothers to dox myself a bit. Tom has been lead WGN weatherman for about 30 years now (brother dead #Enron). Though he's regarded as one of the best in the world and not being hyperbolic. Just had gastro surgery and forgot to buy new suits for the broadcast. Pretty sure he's gay too and about the ugliest weatherman on the planet. Knows his shit though. One of the few that is mostly correct. Great weather app too that works nationwide.

All that California weather reports need is the shocked expression when there might be rain or wind. I remember when they were wrong 2/3d's of the time about heavy weather.
