I'm glad this thread resurfaced. As many of you may know from my many threads raving about the quality of Movies from Korea, China, and Russia over the last ten years, beats our movie production hands down. I used to search on Youtube "China Movie English Subtitles" or another country. And countless great movies would come up, I could scroll on for minutes and most all would look interesting.

Now they have two or three movies, mostly Propaganda tinged and not made with classic story telling techniques that keeps my interest piqued before.
So there are two or three movies, and they all have different thumbnails and description, so you think it's a different movie. Or there will be tons of their equivalent of Chick Flicks or teen date movies(for the Chinese, Korean or Russian audience)

Is 'They Live' still considered fiction?

How many angels can dance on a pinhead? How many banal, diversity shoehorns can you fit into a brain dead script and try to make up for it with cgi?

It is told from the perspective of "the believers" of what they believed they were doing largely. All of history is propaganda, but it's interesting to see it from the indoctrinated point of view. These people are not bad people, recognize we can all be propagandized. The parts on the communist ideals are especially interesting to me - naive people, truly wanting to make a better world.

The popular computer game "The Last Of Us' chose to make the cute little girl protagonist an adolescent lesbian in the sequel. That turned it into a flop. It was on steep discount, so I bought it. Fantastic graphics, but the lesbian foo soap opera drama is pure drudgery. Seeing masculinized, enabled girls being little bitches has become a work around in these media.

The new Ghostbusters flick was a decent watch. They did a great job of capturing that 80s spirit. Ford vs Ferrari is another movie that comes to mind as well.

One of the best movies I've seen in a while is The Straight Story. It's a movie about real people like us, just a really well told story. I'd say that a majority of movies leave my nerves a bit jangled, but this one is almost like hiking a trail, or catching a wave. So positive and down-to-earth.

George W. Bush withdrew from the ABM treaty established in 1972 by Richard Nixon in 2002. Why? That was the beginning, as far as I can see, of the ramp up of raising tensions with Russia. The US just recently withdrew from the Open Skies Treaty which was established in 2002. Why?

If the US had been entirely successful in the coup in Ukraine, Crimea - Russia's only warm water port in the world, would no longer be their only warm water port. If the US had been entirely successful in the war in Syria, Russia's only Middle Eastern military base in Tartus would no longer be there.

It's quite easy to see that the United States is trying to isolate Russia. The US talks about free trade, but they sure as hell don't practice it. Russia has a TON of petroleum energy. Europe doesn't. Russia has ALWAYS sold energy to Europe, even when it was the USSR. Part of the reason the US overthrew Ukraine was to stop the Nordstream II, and to control energy exports going from Russia to Europe through Ukraine. As I pointed out, we have solid proof that he was removed by the United States and there was no Maidan "Revolution". The US has created the entire situation that now exists in Ukraine, and it's lying about Russia's intentions there. Yugoslavia was pretty much divided up as the US and Europe saw fit, in the face of any treaties which suddenly didn't matter anymore. I don't expect Russia to act any differently after the US and Europe showed them how it's done. Generally I am in favor of secessions over war or local squashing, anywhere and everywhere. Usually you can come to an agreement via diplomacy. If TX or FL decided to secede tomorrow by vote, would we want xiden to send tanks to squash it since it was likely caused by "disinformation"? ;)

The US and Germany literally caused the break up of Yugoslavia behind the scenes and then illegally used force in 1999 for the final coup de grace.

I believe the only part of Yugoslavia which did NOT have the right to secede was Kosovo (as it was not a full-fledged republic, but just an autonomous one within Serbia). This was the dangerous/illegal precedent to which Russia is now pointing. Every other secession in Yugoslavia was probably legal, and we can remember that Czech Rep and Slovakia split without any bloodshed and ill will (and presumably without CIA meddling). Most peoples want their national state.

BTW I was in Yugoslavia few times, incl a few months in 1991 and saw some of that with my own eyes, and I can speak one of their languages...sort of since I have forgotten a lot because I have not used it lately. My Yugoslav friends even in 1989 were telling that this country will blow up which I did not believe at that time given decent life quality and overall friendliness of people.

If I was a piece of shit intelligence agent, I'll tell you that in this day and age, I'd really would work for the FSB before I'd work for the CIA or the FIB. I view our intelligence agencies as being the biggest impediments to our Constitution and they do nothing but damage this country.

I honestly don't have the attention span for new movies. Am I just old? I'll still gladly watch the movies I loved in my youth (primarily 80s comedies), but nothing today stands out to me. Invariably I'll find myself reaching for my phone.

Well maybe, but I used to be a movie buff, and the quality of the AVERAGE film has gone way down.

When making a film was expensive, they had to put in some effort into it. This was why franchises went to SUCK so fast, they'd depend on the name of the property to bring people in rather than building a quality film. This is why Star Trek 4 was a comedy, and a pretty lousy one at that, but CHEAP.
