I thought that Dune was a type of 'near east' allegory in space where the Harkonneans were the Slavs(pre-Russian Empire), the Emperor & his Sardaukar armies were the Persian Empire, the Fremen were the Arabs of the desert, and Atreides were the Greeks where Paul eventually became Mohammed (ala Muad Dib) to the Arabs while at the same time, Alexander the Great, who defeated the Persians & built out the interstellar empire using Jihad to conquer other planets.

Think Dune is more 70s oil crisis and spice is oil.

So now I have managed to find new Chinese made Historical epics. But now they are injecting Maoism Marxist propaganda in the storylines.

The waring self interested Generals and the Feudalist society, is replaced with the Generals motives being the greater good of China and protecting the Emperor.
I mean change the costumes and props, and the whole picture would fit 1950 China, rather than the Han Dynasty set in 200 BC.
