I generally refuse to support REI. But, they had the shoes I needed for a hiking trip I'm taking next week and there were no other options locally since my feet are weird as hell and my current shoes need replaced.

REI sucks. They were just as bad as Costco with their Nazi mask policy.

They used to have a big ass MASK REQUIREMENT sign when you walked in with a door Nazi who enforced it. They would huff and puff if you entered without it and would harass you until you put one on or left the store.

Today when I walked in to get my shoes, they now have a big ass YOU MUST BE FULLY VACCINATED to enter without a mask.

I enter and ignore the sign as I don't own and have never owned a mask, nor will I ever take the vax.

I get my shoes from a self righteous hipster who was semi helpful but was a passive aggressive dick, as selling shoes can't be fun.

Go to checkout and the cashier had her double mask on and was a psycho mid 50s hipster who talked to me with a bit of arrogance in her voice.

So I asked her about the return policy and she went into a pissy mood about how it's a year (I know this already) but listed a whole range of what they will take back and what they won't. (Hint: they take anything back for any reason within a year no questions asked).

I asked "can I bring them back if they aren't comfortable?" or "tear" within the year. The answer was yes, but she wouldn't give that to me. It was "within reason" but "yes the return policy is a year." Typical liberal trying to attach strings and make shit up, to meet her idea of how things should be.

I just nodded my head. Paid. Walked out.

I'm returning these damn shoes in two months after I've worn them to shreds due to REI reconfirming my thoughts that they were Nazis.

I will un-support this store shortly :)

Please do return them.

Every business that required masks AT ALL, EVER should suffer the consequences of participating in totalitarianism.

They will whine that they were "just following orders".

Fuck that. Buy stuff and return it, over and over and over.

I absolutely will return them.

Hadn't used REI in years, but had to this year for a rooftop cargo carrier and the shoes. So I have about $700 in items to return.

I was going to keep both, but the deceitfulness and passive agressiveness of the staff got to me this go around.

LOL! I went to the gym today. Must finally be mask exhaustion. Nobody I saw wore a mask, the the muscle heads weren't even wiping down the machines with disinfectant. Last time I went, there were still an occasional mask cuck(ette).

Nazi REI is still a great place to buy brown shirts.

If so, you were indeed victimized.

I see no victims here, only volunteers. Buying shoes in a store is voluntary.

But being forced to wear a mask was mandatory.

Being excluded from commerce because you won't comply with mandatory, arbitrary, degrading demands is clearly a civil rights violation.

I got not problem with that.

I'm fine with a store refusing to serve homosexuals, white angle saxon protestants, Catholics, lesbians and obese people.

Why are you shopping at a store that hates you? Why the fuck are you giving them your business - giving them money? You know what is wrong with two homosexuals demanding that a deeply religious Christian bake them a cake? They are complete assholes.

If a store refused to serve a black person, they'd have no business in a day. But I'll tell you something, when I lived in Buffalo NY, there were plenty of black businesses that didn't want whitey there - that was FINE with me. Fuck you, racist! I have no problem with being discriminated against, because why the fuck would I want to give money to an asshole? What? Am I fucking stupid?

I practice personal responsibility. If I disagree with store policy, I simply go elsewhere.

You're missing the point.

REI did indeed require a mask, both formerly, when they were willingly obeying badly misguided or corrupt "public health" officials, and now, for the "unvaccinated".

Either way, they have guilt for "just following orders"" or for overtly discriminating on the basis of one's vaccination status.

That's the function of a FREE market.

Let's start restoring it. The covid bailouts weren't to help familes and out of work people, they were to help businesses that went along, to get along.

We're a fascist country, now. We're not about to become one, we are one.
21   NuttBoxer   2021 Jul 20, 10:51pm

I know Fallopia was being sarcastic, but I really do feel uncomfortable every time I go into any store or restaurant that used to require a mask. I think it's because I sacrificed a little bit of my dignity each time I did it. It certainly gives me a negative feeling about everyone who works at these places. But no one physically put a mask on my face, I did make the choice every time. And now I'm feeling in a bad way about it.

But I don't have to shop at those stores. I don't have to live in a state that practiced those policies(not every state and country did). And if it wasn't for my family, I'd be living even further out in nature, and somewhere that respects my human rights and dignity. But I don't, I live here, and I can definitely relate to joshuatrio's experience.

@NuttBoxer I think you put that very well.

I also deeply resent Peets and Trader Joe's now, places I used to like before they became mask-enforcers for the whole virus fraud.

At least I don't go to Peets anymore or buy their beans, and this is exactly why. Trader Joe's is hard to stop shopping at because I need food and all the other grocers violated our dignity as well.

But I'm really tempted to leave a shopping cart of expensive meat to get warm in some part of the store. Because they were "just obeying orders". Didn't say I'd do it. Just that I'm tempted.

EXACTLY. We have choices.

The OP sold himself out and bent over for nothing more than a pair of shoes, then cries about it.

Lol. I used to love REI when I lived out west. However in the last year they have gone crazy left and stupid with the covid nonsense.

I had to shop there because they were the only game in town that carried the type of shoes that I needed and could get without ordering online. Same with the cargo carrier - everyone was out of stock. They were the only game in town.

I was prepared to keep all the shit I bought, but it was the lefty, asshole, self righteous like staff just reconfirmed the type of company they were. A company like this isn't worth supporting, especially blatantly pushing the vax when you walk in.

Hence, all the shit is going back.

You're missing the point. They still had signs saying masks were required if you aren't vaccinated. If there's no law on the books, it's not legal to even ask that. Due to HIPPA I don't believe it's even allowed to be asked at a public business. You got AIDS? Wear a butt plug, cup and a mask. Is that person a victim for even being asked that?

Then there's something similar to what Rb6d said, I'm going to put a sign on the front of my business that says all blacks must wear two wool sweaters. It's an inconvenience, but they easily could do it. It gets cold here in Chicago and black people don't like the cold. Just trying to protect them.... I can't. It's not legal.

There's no law on the books that you have to be vaccinated. It has to be equal equal entry requirement. It's not no shoes, no shirt, no polio vaccine, no entry. So yes, you are a victim of an illegal request for entry to a public business. And yes, there are municipal codes/law for the no shirt and no shoe signs. Every average muni uses the same basic template and then adds to the codes/laws.

The rabbit hole is bottomless if we keep going down this path. No entry unless you've had an abortion. No entry if you think you might have a cold. No entry with bloodshot eyes. Who know, maybe Ebola makes a roaring comeback play.

No, I am not missing the point. You are.

People WANT to feel like victims. They LIKE to feel victimized by Biden, Trump, Dr. Fauci, China, Raffensperger, AOC, MTG, REI, Gavin Newsom, COVID, Deep State, Kalifornia, Republicans, Democrats, Google, Facebook, and a ever growing plethora of villains.

This thread is a perfect example. The OP walked in, purchased his shoes without a single incident, yet managed to feel victimized. There is something wrong here.

I'm not a victim, nor do I want to be, or play, or feel like a victim.

I'm fed up with the stupidity of the left and their woke culture + the never ending self righteous attitudes.

If I were a victim, I'd want something in return and demand they change for me. Instead, I'm just going to return their shit and not shop at that store again - even with things being in short supply.

I'd encourage you to read some of the arguments presented as well. Clearly you have not.
27   clambo   2021 Jul 21, 7:55am

Why not just buy the shoes and leave?

I never ask questions about returning shit, since I never do.

Sign on the door. Hadn't even entered the establishment and was told he needed to be vaccinated or wear an article of clothing.

Fine that he didn't, but you're not standing on solid ground by running back to the victim shit. No one is claiming they're a victim in this story. Pointed out an illegal request from a business by the sign on the front door. Then complained about the employees because it was likely they thought or believed he wasn't vaccinated. Precisely like you keep calling him a victim.

He's never complained he was wronged and only had to use REI because of time constraints. This isn't complicated. It's perfectly okay to bitch about a business even if you involuntarily have to use them. You kind of sound like the victim in this thread, that's for sure.

So, instead of going to a competitor or making your own damn shoes like the self-made-and-sufficient man Republicans love to larp as, you're entering a business you dislike, acting belligerent with the store level employees who have zero control or input into store policies, for the express purpose of taking something you want and need with deliberate intent to abuse the return policy in a manner tantamount to stealing?

But booooy, do loudly hypocritical Republicans hate being called out as deplorables!

Planning to wear the shoes out then return them is nothing but a low-level, petty revenge fantasy. Revenge fantasies pair well with a victim mentality.

Some would call that reaping what you sow, or getting your just desserts. No one has to respect a company that doesn't respect them. If I don't respect someone, I'll take advantage of them simply because I can.

Store policy is you can return stuff. So yeah... not stealing. Republicans are likely least of their worries for loss mitigation as well from stolen or returned goods.

He didn't want to go to the store. People have lives. Going on a trip and needed something last second. No time for shipping and maybe another retailer would cost more time. Time is money. I hate Chili's the restaurant, but sometimes it's just convenient when driving to get a meal on the road. I'd never recommend it as a restaurant. Not sure your point.

Clearly you didn't read what I wrote.

No other options due to the last minute nature of the trip. And I had every intention of keeping everything, until the bullshit from the employees. I let it go the first time when I got my cargo carrier, but not the second time for the shoes.

No I wasn't rude to the employees. I treated them with respect, despite the bullshit they were giving me. I knew the return policy, but wanted clarification in case there was a gotcha - when she started giving me BS, I asked a few more questions for the hell of it - and quickly figured out she was full of shit.

And no, operating within store policy is not stealing. REI sells all the returned shit, at a still high price all fucking day long, and yes, they are still making money.

I accept responsibility for shopping in a store run by douchebags, full of douchebags. My bad. I do not consent to their covid, leftist nonsense bullshit anymore. I am simply giving them back what I purchased, within their rules and guidelines, and terminating business with them.

If they don't like it, they can change their rules anytime.

He just wants attention and to troll. Employees had no idea if I had the shot or not. They were just typical hipster, leftists who treated others like shit.

I'm rural so I'm mostly online shop. Haven't missed the in store experience, especially based on your experience. Though I do like restaurants, but we have a few close by so I can get that fix pretty easily.

This. Flat outta time.

Which is why I do online. I try to go straight to the vendor if they have decent shipping times. Sometimes gotta use Amazon though. Brick and mortar stores, and even offices, I think are going to get trashed here in the near future. What's the point? Warehouses are building like a mother fucker here in IL with a decline population and high taxes. Drive along the highway and 6 new warehouses are there with these precast concrete walls being shipped in. Takes them 2 weeks to build.

If I can click a button and get something 2 days later where I'm at, that's what I'm doing. I'm 1 hour round trip to any big box retail place. To get back to the quote from you, time. We can make more and save more $$$$ sitting at home than driving 1 hour to pick something up. I do get the last second items for a trip. We always miss 1-5 items every trip and we're like, fuck, who's going to get that?

I do a lot of online shopping. But not for shoes. The only shoes I can tolerate wearing daily are Mizuno's, which I buy from a local running store as I like to support local.

With hiking, I needed something that would stand up to two months of continuous abuse and had to bite the bullet. REI was the only store that had something suitable.

I leave tomorrow, so 2 day shipping and try on periods just wasn't gonna work.
